I did enjoy putting zombie on my weapons, then using the revive ability on enemies.
Either that or putting drain on my weapons. Good stuff

You know, I really don't get some of the complant when they say "There's no room to uses magic in this game." Last I recall, you can junction magic effects to your weapons like ljkkjlcm just said, protect yourself from magic with magic, and Godmod with magic. Not to mention actually casting the magic. People, don't be intimidated! Just do it! I bet you guys ended the game about 50 times already anyway. This is the ultimate magic system. And I think the creators knew that ultimately stopping the monster before it got out of control.
It's definitely more fun to customize my characters' stats and find and choose spells that I want in my characters' inventories than to simply consume someone's MP in battles and level them up.
There are plenty of ways to accumulate spells in FFVIII; I rarely need to stop and Draw from enemies in my playthroughs, and, when I do, it doesn't feel as tedious as some people claim it is.

The only drawing that I found a pain was...well, Pain. Mainly because when I got it from the Raldo/Granaldo boss fight Zell had such bad magic stats he could only draw about one or two at a time.
I found junctioning quite enjoyable, especially working out what stats to boost with what magic. My only reservation has been articulated already several times (casting junctioned magic lowers that stat).
I got around having to cast offensive magic by summoning a lot early on, and junctioning to my characters attacks to pummel foes later on.
Uh-huh. And who actually casts magic when playing this game? No one. They all take BG-57's route of using Summons and physical attacks. No one uses magic for magic. Casting it is pointless.
Yeah, there's a great stat boosting ability here. But the point of magic is to cast spells, and the Junction system ruined that.
The only useful offensive magic in the game is Angel Winging Meteor with Rinoa

EVER!
I cast magic! =O
After a battle I can restock the spell(s) I used, anyway.
I did not like the junction system in gameplay. I liked the fact that junctioning magic, junctioning guardian forces, and the effects of both on humans was addressed in the game, but I think that it could have delved into a little bit more.
I am sure that background information exists on the topic in source material or the Ultimania guide, but, at the same time, I think that same information should have been in the game because it lends more credit to the plot twist of the characters forgetting their pasts because of the influence of guardian forces upon their mind.
There is more information about para-magic and its creation in the Ultimania guide and source materials. Regardless, the game should have forced the player to get that type of background information in the form of a small scene or story segment or something.
should've put it into a SeeD test!
I believe that the concept of para-magic was used in a SeeD test. I think that a mandatory cutscene or lecture would have been better for this type of thing since they were in a school environment and you're still not required to take any SeeD tests to complete the game.
It bothered me that Rinoa and Irvine were instantly able to use a Guardian Force and para-magic without any training on their part or the player.
I personally like the Junction system and magic. I've just started replaying FF8 (though I can't no more cause my Disc 1 won't work )
But what I was doing was, after looking up what abilities the G.F's naturally learn, I organized them under what character to give them to by means of "Fighter" "Magic Caster" and "Support/Fighter". Then once I pick what character will be what, I junction them accordingly. This way, I'm not using using every single good spell to junction.
I wasn't bothered by it and enjoyed using it to max my stats.
Then again, I've always favoured physical attacks to spell-casting, anyway. Final Fantasy VII 4xCut FTW!
