There are no real videogame reviewers.
Well as one of the few rare Nintendo fans out there who doesn't like Smash Bros. I found his review to be entertaining as it was close to my own thoughts on the series. At least he was honest up front about not liking it. I usually hate fans reviewing sequels and games they like cause their bias tends to overlook flaws that are truly detrimental to a good gaming experience (looks at almost every CC and GTA review in existence). Though I do feel he's more about entertainment.
A lot of his complaints about Brawl just weren't true. Like needing to unlock stuff in single player mode. All of the levels and characters and stuff can be unlocked through multiplayer.
I know, believe me, all my friends are Smash Bros' fanatics. I said he was more of an entertainer than a true reviewer, but some of his complaints I can sympathize with.
He pulls off the pompous Brit quite nicely. If only he could speak a bit slower then maybe I could enjoy myself.
Australian's naturally talk faster than American's.
I just watched a few of his videos, and found myself quite amused by him. And I could easily understand him right away. Could be because I can talk at high speeds as well. xD
It ain't called Zero Punctuation (not to mention his personal site, Fully Ramblomatic) for nothin'. I tend to talk pretty fast myself (and I once spent a *lot* of time around Jamaicans... I can understand Little Jacob without subs) so the speed isn't a problem for me.
Sure, but I think he was complaining more about the number of "****-gargling hours" needed to unlock everything, and how that detracted from the immediate multi-playablity(?) of the game. Spending the first umpteen hours of a gathering simply unlocking the characters everyone wants to use would be a bit of a downer...
I quite liked the blatant snark in the small print at the end of the Brawl review:While the reviews do focus on comedy, I think they've generally got enough analysis of the game to be taken seriously as reviews. After all, even the Brawl review praised the game's concept, and the amount of work that'd gone into the single-player campaigns. And as the Portal and Psychonauts reviews show, he'll heap on the praise where he feels it's due, and even a game he claimed not to like all that much will get favourable treatment for its strong points.Quote:
Not much point in writing everything here this week, everyone's already smurfed off to their favourite Nintendo forum to talk about how I'm not a "real" reviewer
I don't agree with his Halo review by any stretch, but I still laughed. And it did raise some legitimate points and that, which is more than can be said for most reviews.
