It's hard to explain, but Sabin just sounds too "soft" for that character. Mash suits him much better.

This thread cracks me up.
Would be funny if Shiva was named after some type food. Maybe McDonalds, put into that frame above.
I renamed Rinoa to Rose when I first played, haven't changed anything since.
I think Mash sounds too soft. As soft as mash potatoes. If you say Sabin like "Sa-BIN" it sounds harder.
My problem with Tina is just that it sounds too common. Terra has an earthy quality to it that is a good parallel with Celes (I know it wasn't meant to be like that but it worked out well). I am a big fan of the Woolsey translation, he did a great job given the situations he had to work with.
True. But you have the dinner, 'bangers & mash', with the mash being mashed potatoes, but simply referred to as mash. lol... I can't not believe I just typed that in a FF forum.
Did you ever rename or make up names for any characters when possible? I've changed Amarant's name to Red in later playthroughs, and in FFX Tidus became Evian and Frans and Ixion was named Kit Fox on one of my files.
I never rename characters...I don't even like when I'm prompt to make hero's name...
That name appears in relation to another FF. can't remember which.
I renamed them when I was younger, but I can't be bothered with it now, save for one time when I played FFVI. The only one I piss around with is changing Aeris to Aerith because I think it's prettier. I will change them for the Eyes on FFVII playthrough aka playthrough of the best FF (I'm getting started on the smacktalk early) out of boredom, though.
I never change names, even if I know the character's actual name. Like I always keep Red XIII as Red XIII and Frog from Chrono Trigger as Frog.
I don't usually rename characters, but I did pick an eoffers themed party for ff6 month.
