IV. It's why I own four copies of it in various forms.
Mine was IX, unless you count the demo disc I had with the FFVIII intro on it. That intro captivated me, but IX was my first actual FF.
I feel so young..
FFVII since it was the first released in the uk i believe but then i discovered emulation and started form FF1
Jimmy-
VII, like most of the United Kingdom (of those that didn't play Mystic Quest Adventure anyway).
Until recently I thought I had it good. These days I think we were the unlucky ones.

Final Fantasy III DS is one of the worst games I have ever played. I spent over 20 hours in it and have no idea why. I just gave up trying to find out what could possibly make this game good in this day and age (well, three and a half years back).
FF VII, which i believe to be the best FF game to get somebody into the series.
FF IV on the SNES, back when it was released as "FF II".
I'm almost embarrassed to admit it was FFVII since everyone will point to that as the exclusive, sole, and only reason why I think it's the best "BECUZ IT WAS My FIRST ONE!!!"
N00b!!! j/k, that's a great game to start with (and i've played it 4 or 5 times too)
>>> FF1 NES was the first, the second was Mystic Quest..:luca:
I'm proud to be part of the FFVII generation. At the time, I thought it the best game evaaaah!
Mystic Quest was my first, and I played IV soon after *cough*emulation*cough*. I definitelly do not consider FFIV (OR Mystic Quest, for that matter) to be the best in the series.
FFV
Which i think goes some way into explaining why i disliked IV. I thought having all my customization taking away was some kind of trick. I played about 10 hours in and when i realized it wasn't coming, i abandoned it.
FFXII. :D
