I just can't bring myself to equip a weapon that hinders my characters in some way, even if it is for a good cause :(
And I mean the amount of damage you do in stagger anyway... surely it evens out somehow? I don't really like the weapons in this game, there's only a few possible weapons for each character and if you want high stats you have no choice but to screw yourself over in some way.

You can think you are gimping yourself by taking a no-stagger weapon, but by not taking it you are gimping yourself with lower stats. Since I switched to Fang's no-stagger weapon I haven't even noticed a single time where I didn't get a stagger because of it. Equipping it on your primary RAV would be debilitating, but on a primarialy COM class it doesn't matter much.

But I like to use Tri-Disaster to begin with and then switch over to Relentless Assault once the enemy is staggered (with occasional breaks to heal if necessary). So in most battles everyone is a RAV at some point.
Gaaahhh I don't like these pesky weapons :(

so these are the FFXIII equivalent of the nail bat?

If you have three RAVs on a target the odds of one not being able to land the last 0.1% is very low. Even if they were to land a hit and not be able to stagger the enemy you know that there is a hit coming from another party member in a split second anyways.
