Sorry if this has been done before, but I thought it would be nice to get your views on some of the best FF tracks.
What are your top 5 Final Fantasy tracks?
Time Compression - FFVIII.
It's such a haunting and creepily beautiful piece of music which comes at a time in the game where you're unsure of the character's fates. I love it so much, I think it emulates the Sorceress world perfectly. I love when the harp (is it a harp?) comes in. And then I love the bit when the horn noise stops in the middle of the piece... It's just... AHHH! SO Final Fantasy.
Fisherman's Horizon - FFVIII
It's so calm and peaceful, and it makes me think of all the flower fields and the beautiful scenery of Winhill, even though it's for FH! haha. It's such a nice melody and so catchy, I'm always whistling it from time to time. :jess:
Freya's Theme - FFIX
I really like the melody of this, I think Freya is such a great character in that game and her story is really sad and I think it's conveyed well in the music, it's so different to anything else on my list too.
Cosmo Canyon and The Great Warrior - FFVII (I know.. it's really two..)
I love Nanaki, and like I said about Freya's, it really captures the sadness of his past, while giving it a really tribal sound and feel. It's one of my favourite pieces in VII as well as Tifa and Aeris's theme. Both beautiful.
To Zanarkand (Ending Theme Version) - FFX
I don't know a single person who doesn't enjoy the Zanarkand music, it's gorgeous. I love the live version too, I think all of the ending FF themes are beautiful but this one really sticks out to me. It has a lovely crescendo. Really pulls on my wee little heartstrings! :(
I'm certainly a bigger fan of the more calming pieces the franchise has to offer, but there are some stunning upbeat pieces too. Man with the Machine Gun, Force Your Way, One Winged Angel etc etc
Are there any tracks you hate?
For me, FFVIII has the best soundtrack by far, and even though it was a bit of a naff game, X has some lovely pieces too.
This takes the absolute cake for most annoying piece in my opinion.

Oy, I could never think of five tracks, there are simply too many good FF tracks in the series for me to boil it down to just five tracks. Maybe if I could do my top 25, I could give it a shot. :D

Although, I will say that I'm genuinely confused when I hear people talk about VI or VII being their favourite. I've barely even noticed the music in VI, and VII's is slightly too antiquated for me to listen to regularly outside of playing the game. Within The Giant (FFIV), The Final Battle (FFIV), The Dark World (FFIII), Eternal Wind (FFIII), and FFV's Main Theme (FFV) would have to be my top 5. I don't really have any specific order for them.
1 Celes's Theme. This is one of the most beautiful and touching songs ever made.
2 Exdeath's Theme. I feel like this song is really, really, underated. It sounds like a chilling horror movie song. Really bone-chilling and gives you Goosebumps.
3 FF X's battle Theme. My fave Final Fantasy battle theme. It sounds so heroic.
4 Dancing Calobrena. Yeah you can maybe guess that I like the creepy songs.
5 Damcyan Castle. So sad, so depressing but a little bit hopeful It sets the mood.
I'm not gonna list five, but I always have loved "Interrupted by Fireworks" from FF7.
5. FFVII - On That Day Five Years Ago
I seriously get the chills every time I listen to this track. An awe-inspiring track.
4. FFX - To Zanarkand
I will never forget the first time I saw that opening, and this tune came on...
3. FFVIII - Julia
Beautiful piano version of Eyes on Me. Not overly thrilled about that song, but this one is beautiful.

Outstanding in every possible way.

My all-time favorite Final Fantasy song. It just captures the spirit of the game so perfectly well.
