I was focusing mostly on the synth rather than 80's sounding. :p If you want ultra-80's-style-synth, I'd still say Alphabeat win.

Alright, makes sense. Good stuff anyway. :monster:
i feel like im gonna love this thread
The biggest problem I had was resisting posting a whole lof of actual 80's synthpop in my reply.
EDIT: Also, while going through the videos, I stumbled across the video for Kids by MGMT (I don't know if I linked it or not) and I have loved that song forever and always feel it's such an uplifting beat, it always picks me up... turns out much of the video was damned near traumatising. :stare:
...perhaps we should set up an AIM direct connection sometime and just trade each other mp3's all day. xD
Awwwwwww damn son, neo-80s? This thread is my jam.
Obviously there's Tesla Boy, can't have a thread like this without them.
I don't think I've heard a single Electric Youth track I don't smurfing adore but let's throw in the best two, Right Back To You and The Best Thing;
And oh screw it here's Fade Away as well (dear LORD I love Electric Youth)
Want some Maethelvin? Yeah, trust me, you want some Maethelvin.
Lazerhawk? Don't mind if I do. Again hard to pick a reasonable number but I'll just throw out three of my faves for now.
So Far Away is super chill.
At the other end of the spectrum, Redline is full-on and if you need music to get you pumped up for something like fighting the last boss in FTL, you've just found your track. (Seriously the game music there is great but if trout's really real, play this.)
Much the same holds true of Overdrive.
Mitch Murder time:
"What's your favorite, Mister Adequate?"
Well Virginia I don't know if I could pick a single favorite, but one of the strongest contenders would certainly be Perturbator. Because they're goddamn beautiful. You may recognize them from Hotline Miami. They're a primary reason the game has such a stellar soundtrack.
And my personal favorite of theirs, not hurt by the astonishing Catherine Serre's presence in the video still;
We've got some serious trout coming up so don't close that tab yet, it's time for Miami Horror's Sometimes and then, with the help of the ever-talented Kimbra, I Look To You.
And to finish up for now, a group I've got a lot of love for, Futurecop!
N.A.S.A.
Atlantis 1997
Possibly my favorite of theirs, Fade Away
Dreams
The Only Way (PS the chick in the video is Whitney Moore of Birdemic fame)
In conclusion, screw all other genres if it's not electronic it's not worth listening to, that includes Bruckner and whatever that guy nik likes is called, probably some nerd who never got laid. Also always check out the YouTube channels neros77 and NewRetroWave, they've got good trout and most of this stuff was found directly or indirectly from their playlists.
Robyn  I saw her live and she is absolutely astounding and I would see her again. Amazing.
Try some Natalia Kills. I don't know what he more recent stuff is like, but this is pretty good.
Bat For Lashes also has some pretty 80's sounding stuff, 'Daniel' is apparently about the Karate Kid's Daniel :D
I'm going gaga over this thread. :)
So far, I like Natalia Kills, esp. her collab in 1974. Alphabeat is as pseudo-80's as pseudo-80's gets.
Foster the People does have that vibe though they do tend to get picked up by mainstream media fast.
I actually like La Roux, but dear god are her videos horrible. Santigold is pretty 80s sounding to me sometimes.
L.E.S. Artistes
Lights Out
Hearbeats by The Knife (definitely 80s sounding)
Get Innocuous by LCD Soundsystem (their other stuff is pretty 80s too)
Give Life Back to Music by Daft Punk
DEV - In The Dark - YouTube
DEV - Bass Down Low (Explicit) ft. The Cataracs - YouTube
(I could've sworn the 2nd one was done by Fergie for the longest lol)
Not sure if Chvrches was mentoned already, but anyway them:
