Any animal, regardless of how practical it is? A bear, of course. When your mount is a godless killing machine that makes it that much more difficult to lose.

Actually, aren't hippos statistically one of the most dangerous animals to humans? Maybe riding into battle on a hippo would be best.

Also, they do that thing where they poop and spray it everywhere with their tail. Talk about demoralizing the enemy!

I want to ride in on Christmas riding Jess riding a Unicorn.

Because even the cruelest, most heartless warlord and his barbarian armies would have a hard time raising a sword against the utter cuteness that is Christmas riding Jess riding a unicorn.
