depends on the game, really. In many of them, rangers primarly use ranged weapons, either bows or guns. It overlaps a lot with the archer class in many cases, so games usually only have one or the other. They can use axes, sure, but if you're gonna use axes, there are many other jobs better suited for that. After all, black mages can use knives too.
Shooter, however, isn't a class I have seen in any FF game.
And where's the logic in leaving time mage and dancer out, while wasting slots on FF13 classes? :p

Shooter was there just to cover all long ranged fighters with guns and bow n arrows. There was so many types with no key that suited them better so I called them shooter.
As for time mage I kind of feel like I should have not used Berserker and Beastmaster for. Final Fantasy XIII classes are there as buffers (protect, Haste) and de-buffers (Poison, Slow)
Wait, if I change my pick to viking, do I get to live in that cave from FF3 with the cannon?
