Ehh~~
But onii-chan, lots of wonderful games have this kind of art style and put it to good use! Did you never play Valkyria Chronicles?

I have one thing to say to that.

why is valkyria chronicles brought up? that game's style isn't similar to XC2 either.
You do realize these things are completely subjective, right?
You could spend all day debating whether [x] is closely related to [y] or [z]. What's important is that it is pretty different.
I'm not sure how common it is for video game sequels to drastically change the art style. Zelda pulled it off by having it occupy another timeline altogether with Toon Link, but I can't think of any other examples off the top of my head. I wonder why they decided to change it? It's not as if the original art style was ugly.
trying to appeal to a different consumer group, maybe? because obviously no one likes a good jrpg except 12 year olds.
wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo honestly thinks this is true, despite the average gamer age, even for jrpgs, is way past 20.
Watch the game get like a 7+ age rating and have no objectionable themes.
Probably just the result of a different character designer.
I'd be surprised if X2 ends up being set in the same world/timeline as the original, judging from the trailer. I expect they'll do a Final Fantasy thing where they share themes but tell a completely different story in a new world.
It's still directed by Takahashi's. So I highly doubt it.
*response to Mirage, btw
maybe it was a corporate decision
anyway, i feel pretty sure that this is a direct sequel. Possibly even the same world.
Yeah. Otherwise, why even call it a 2?
Watch it have this cutesy art style and deal with heavier themes than the original Xenogears.
Oh god... that's a terrifying thought. The memories from the last time this happened haven't gone away.

To be fair, I don't like the style of the original Xenoblade either. Their faces are weirdly flat and Sharla looks like she has a dislocated pelvis her thighs are so far apart
I like the concept art designs for them, but ingame they are a bit weird. i put some of that down to the graphical capabilities of the Wii, but not all of them. Fiora's later appearance is pretty bleh too.
