In most cases the rewards are not worth the effort (MP). Aside the odd Phoenix  when Eiko is the only one in party alive, I rarely need them- if I do it it's a PeTeRL90 because of an opposing element.

ya you do have a point
I only use Atomos if, by pure coincidence, I possess 70+ Amethysts, otherwise I only ever use Phoenix and the ocassional Madeen. Garnet's Eidolons are practically useless compared to Eiko's.
Sometimes...but not as often as Diablo in ff8

Eidolons are terrible. They cost too much and do less damage than my characters already do. Plus they all are immune to/absorb shadow so Doomsday is actually usable. So... yeah. Eidolon usage is illogical in my case.

Eiko's are awesome. Ark is good but too many enemies absorb shadow damage for my taste. As for Atomos, I've never used it, except maybe one time to see the animation sequence.
I still say Ark is the best even if it does no damage because it's basically a pause and heal with auto regen turned on.
I only use three Eidolons-Bahamut, Ark and Madeen. I think I summoned Atomos one time or two...
The full-length Atomos animation (including Atomos rising from the forest) is great, but you can't beat the FMV of Atomos (SPOILER)destroying Lindblum. All those soldiers, mages and buildings getting ripped through the air was awful, especially when Atomos vanishes and the debris and victims continue falling. All of the Eidolon FMVs are great, but when I've got a high-level party, I'll rarely ever use an Eidolon if there's a different form of magic that's quicker but just as powerful. Flare, Holy, Mighty Guard, Frog Drop and Doomsday can do everything that most Eidolons can, and more.
The thing with Eiko's summons is, to get the most out of them, you have to equip different items for different attacks (with Fenrir and Carbunkle).
What does Atomos do? I've tried him but I've never got what he does........I think I'm going mad..........someone help me............give me bloooooooooood.....................
Atomos is a gravity-based attack, so the damage dealt is proportional to the enemy's HP. A tougher enemy takes more damage.
Thanks. I think I'll try him on some bosses now. I saved over one of my best games so I started a new one and got further, and better.
