Well, "for the record", I used to freaking LOVE Slipknot. But that was 3 or so years ago. Now though, I don't love their music as much as I did but I still think it's OK, but I hate their image of going around in masks and claiming to be in league with satan, or whatever it is they say these days, just to sell more records.

well, I think you need to get your record straight on why they wear masks and whether-or-not they are in 'league with satan'. First off they don't try to portray an image to sell records and secondly they have been wearing masks since 1995 they didnt do it to sell records they do it for the shear fact that they let the music speak for itself. So theres not any issues with who they really are or what they stand for...

So if they don't do it to sell records, why the heck DO they do it? And just because they've done it since 1995 that doesn't mean they're not trying to sell records. There's not a magic line between 1995 and 1996 that means you're doing something to sell records or not. Or is there? You tell me, as you have such vast knowledge in the subject.

And of course they portray an image to sell records. Every single band in the world does.

well, think about it..its a lot easier to get in front of a crowd of people and go crazy if no one knows who oyu are...you can do wahtever you want and look like a total jack-ass but no one can ever point a finger becasue your now just someone in a mask...and they dont need to portray an image because they could sell records without the maks

It would take about 5 minutes on the internet to find out what Slipknot members look like without their masks. Besides, there are many bands and music artists that do far more crazier things than Slipknot on stage and don't wear a mask.

And OK, they probably would sell records without the masks. But if you asked a non-Slipknot fan to write 10 words they associate with Slipknot, one of them would be masks. That's successful marketing right there.
