And yet the studies prove otherwise. I'm not just arguing because it's what I believe, it's been proven that violence on tv, video games, etc, does not equal violence in those that watch it. Humans are violent by nature, and if someone is going to kill someone else, it doesnt matter what they've been shielded from, what bubble they've lived in. They're going to do it, plain and simple. While I agree that little kids shouldnt be watching graphic media of any form, I wont agree that it's the tv's fault that they act a certain way.

Kids may become somewhat 'violent' after seeing violence on TV, but they DO NOT become malicious. They may wanna karate chop someone 'cos it's cool, but they certainly are not out to do any harm.

Though there may be some sort of correlation between video game violence and aggressive behavior that doesn't necessarily mean that they are the sole factor or cause.

Games dont kill people. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

Yeah you say that now, but when your F***ed up kid goes off and kills someone, you are going to see the value of placing the blame on something, ANYTHING other than yourself. After all, parents can't be credited with screwing up their kid!

I cant beileve people buy into this stuff. video games dont make u kill someone. Im sure id be a more proficeint killer than if id never played a video game before, but u cant simulate firing a m16, nor can the video game cause post-traumatic stress disorder, unless the person had already deep rooted psychological issues. BtW i think ive seen this article here somewhere b4 maybe not.

Not really. Handling a game controller is absolutely nothing like handling any sort of weapon. I've shot a lot of guns in my life, and no amount of combat simulation games can help, neither in aim nor handling, it just doesnt come anywhere close to the feel of handling a gun. And, even after all those games I've played, I cant bear to have my gun pointed at a human being.

The only thing games have helped me with is how to look cool while holding my gun. xD Kidding, kidding.

Its a proven fact that video games that involve 1st person shooting make the players react faster, recognize friendly/enemy targets faster, and tract multiple targets easier.

That has nothing to do with killing people. Those benefits could be used in any number of situations, most of them friendly (like a game of football, for instense) some of them not. You could play shooter games for your entire life and still not be a better killer.

edit: Go pick up a real gun and try playing a cop-simulator game (like Marge did on The Simpsons). Control of the gun, aim, and all the really important things arent improved by the game. Reacting better, recognizing targets, and tracking targets are indeed important, but less than half the battle. The most important part is controlling the gun and actually hitting the target.

I beg to differ. Games like Rainbow Six, for example, familiarise you with the real way of using various weapons. I've shot guns meself, as well, and I can tell you those games made it all the more clear and familiar to me. How to hold the gun, how to aim, how to cock, load, lock, etc. No to mention, it improves your hand-eye coordination, and target recognition skills, as well.

This just shouldn't be an issue.

He killed soemone for drug cash. Tons of people have played a game that involves killing and not everyone kills people. In fact this may be hard to belive but only a small minority do get this influinced by this games and their parents shouldn't have bought them an M rated game.

If video games effected what people do to the extreme extent of murder my dad would be wearing a large yellow bubble, walking around in a dark room, eating buttons and running from ghosts.

If you aren't mature enough to play M rated games....dont.

Holding a friggin playstation controllers is nothing like handling a gun. It may show you how to lock and load, but it doesnt handle like a gun. The kick alone is a whole experience to get used to, and nothing like any game ever made. And again, just because you can shoot pixelated people on a game does not make you want to, or able to, shoot a person in real life. And every game improves your hand-eye coordination. And games for small children that teach letter recognition is technically teaching target recognition. It teaches you to recognize things. Which is taught in school everyday. Sesame Street is training killers!

The Abominatrix, your right about that. A playstation controller is nothing like a gun and doesn't help you that much to improve aim. However, a frist person shooter on a computer is a TOTALLY different story. I know from experiance that it DOES improve aiming a gun. I hadn't shot a gun for at least 2 or 3 years. During that time i played alot of counterstrike, and when I went out to shoot again a few years later for the first time, my skill level had increased tremendously. I also felt a hell of a lot more comfortable holding the gun, aiming the gun, anticipatng when to fire at a moving target, etc.
However, i do not believe that ANY game can make it even slightly easier to kill people. Ive played alot of games, and ive killed a large number of pixelated people, but i can't even begin to contemplate killing another person for any reason what so ever.

I've played plenty of counterstrike and it hasnt helped my aim or my comfort level with any gun.
