I don't understand, since when can Canada arrest OUR president? They arn't even a real country.
I love how people still make fun of Canada (mostly kids in 8th and 9th
grade) when Canada's living conditions are much better than those in
America.

Canada is as much a country as America or England or any other country out there. They are a sovereign, self-governed nation. If he goes to Canada and they decide to arrest him, they are well within their rights to do so.Quote:

perhaps better to say "just like any other country whose Chief of State had been imprisoned would."
Bush is not a dictator. He did not inherit the job from anybody, nor did he force his way into it. (remember all that hanging and dimpled chad stuff 4 years ago? the result of people sticking more than 1 ballot into the machine at a time. no other means humanly possible to get one) Bush is an elected official.
If'n you don't like what the US has chosen to do by means of its leadership, then by all means. Boycott our trade. Sanction us economically. That's the way the UN handles things, if that's the way you wanna do it. If you wanna go to war, what exactly does that prove? that you're stronger? (not likely)
and if'n you're in the US, take part in the political process and write your congressman when such things like military budgets go up for voting in Congress. And if that elected official doesn't vote the way you wanted them to, don't vote for re-election for them.
Exactly, and probably get some much more serious trade problems than we have now.Quote:
The truth is, Canada would be promptly decimated and lose any positive relations it has developed with the United States.
 Our govenment (Canadian) is a failure in the first rule of government.(which is to be able to defend the country from attack, which they put next to no budget in) The only reason Canada is still a self-governing country is because of our foreign relations. Getting into a fight with the states is the least thought out idea ever.Quote:

I really hope this doesn't turn into a Canada mudslinging fest. This was not my intention. All joking aside, Canada is infact a real country, and a successful one at that. The greatness of a country should not be determined by its military power. Canada has managed to avoid major terrorist attacks and war without the need to spend ungodly amounts of budget on military.
Yes I am aware that GWB was arrested before he was President, emphasis on before. Any country can claim rights to detaining our president, but the point here is the consequences in doing so. I assure you that any country with the guts to arrest the President of United States would get a suprise first in the form of force recon soldiers, then followed up with massive bombing.
I would be pretty shocked if this was a consideration at the high levels of the Canadian goverment. And by consideration, I mean serious consideration, not political propoganda for citizens. Surely they are aware of US policy towards these matters. Hell, we've sent in special forces to free everyday American citizens from another country's grasp. With the president, you can multiply that a thousand fold.
It would be funny, but ultimately catastrophic in the end.
Something like that could spark another World War. Think about it, Canada probably wouldn't consider that unless they expected either a) we'd handle it peacefully (haha!) or b) they have allies that can stem the tide of American Invasion.
Well, not quite. He did have diplomatic immunity - he was there as a foreign diplomat on official business. If he was there on vacation or out of office, on the other hand...Quote:

We let in anyone who wants in basically, probably including some people who have a personal grudge against him. :(Quote:

I don't mind mudslinging at my own country. :DQuote:

I don't know, I would just find it to be a very stupid idea if the government actually tried it.Quote:

As I said, that is only because they have good relations with other countries. We definitely shouldn't make bad ones now. Actually, I always get the feeling that if we were attacked, Canadians would rely on the US for support, so bad relations with the states would put us in hot water.Quote:

You realise most of canada's population is snuggled up next to us, to leach off our aura of awesomeness(1) and sell 75% of their products to us. All the US would have to do is stop buying canadian goods and the Canadian economy would crash.Quote:

P.S. You know, the canadian-american boarder is virtualy undefended. Those frost monkeys could smite us I say! SMITE US GOOD!
You are probably right Tasteypies. (except maybe the aura part :D)Quote:
