That's becasue thousands and thousands of people have died so you can wave that flag I heard a quote once wish I still had it talking about how soldiers not citizens died for our freedoms and how we should respect them much more then we do. I'lll try and find it.Quote:

Jesus... Leave it to a Republican...
Well I'm sorry I'm a republican. Seriously wtf. whenever a liberal says something from now on I'll say on leave ot to a liberal. I'm sorry I'm not perfect like all you wonderful democrats. I never said they couldn't burn a damn flag going burn a the
in flags you want then shove them.
Okay so... World Events got wierd in the last hour or so....
Anyway, this law is well... Actually does anyone know anything about the guy/s suggesting it? I'm quite intrigued by the logic that led to this...
A flag is a piece of property. Burning of the flag is a type of peaceful protest. You might also need it to burn it to start a bonfire in the back yard or something.Quote:

That's not stupid. Burning the US flag is mindless anarchy. OK, you can claim it's to make a statement or whatever, but probably thousands have done it in the past. It's not a statement anymore.Quote:

And no, I am not a Republican. Heck, I'm not even American, before anyone calls me a die-hard patriot. :)
Hrmm... didn't mean to piss anybody off.Quote:

anyways,
ITs just a stupid bill. Just like the draft being reinstated a couple monthes ago (that was brought up by (D)Charlie Rangle, and he didnt vote for his own bill, and alot of propagandists kept saying Bush was going to reinstate the draft during the 2004 elections) and so it didnt get passed, and this one wont get passed either.
Sorry nik I've had a bad couple days :( didn't really mean to flip out but it was gonna happen at some point tonight and you just happend to be the one. I still <3 you.Quote:

And my reply about diehard Americans was NEVER about Republicans. A poll can show that an equal number of conservatives, liberals, moderates, and populists are equally as passionate about the US. And I never meant to say that only US citizens are patriotic, every country has them. Too much patriotism is a bad thing IMO.
But it's like you assumed that "we" Democrats attacked "you" Republicans, but I could be a Libertarian, Populist, or Moderate. Not every person that "attacks" Republicans is a liberal. Both sides can be equally as stubborn.
And I don't think when you burn a flag that you're disrespecting soldiers. It's a "peaceful" protest, even though people don't see it that way. I don't like how so many countries mark flag burning as a felony. It's how the media shows Middle East countries burning US flags. They're doing it as a sign of protest, but back here most people think it's worst than murder. It's a piece of fabric, not a human being. There's millions of flags made anyways. It's better to burn a flag than strike someone upside the temple. Although the flag represents this country, there are far worst things in life to label as a felony. Would you rather have the 9/11 terrorists burn a flag or attack 3 buildings? ... Exactly, it's obvious.
Maybe I shouldn't have brought up flag burning to steer this off topic, but eh...maybe someone can start a new topic on flag burning.
Actually, speaking out(in some cases) is a penalty. In some cases in the military, if you fail to carry out orders...such as picking up a gun and flee to another country, you are liable to the death sentence.Quote:

first off, there is reasoning behind this law. it's totally f-ed up reasoning, and i think it's the dumbest thing i've ever seen put before a legislature, but it is reasoning none the less. It's to try and crack down on self performed abortions, from what i can tell. the idea is that if you're forced to report a miscarriage, then it would pave for legislation requiring that you see a doctor afterwards (cuz they can't prosecute for a home abortion if theres nothing requiring you to report the death in the first place.) but like i said, it's over the top, f-ed up and completely and utterly retarded. and it'll never pass, so anywho...
The other thing i'd like to comment on is the absolutely insane ability of people to immediately draw "republo-democrat" lines or "hate-love america" lines on ANY GIVEN TOPIC. jeebus. America is screwed up, but we have a constitution that allows us to be as screwed up as we decide to be. and it's a helluva lot better to be allowed to be as big an idiot as you want, than to be restricted to being a very special kind of government-dictated idiot. you act like what you believe to be a good intelligent ethical person, and someone with completely opposite views and opinions does the exact same thing, so lets stop bitching, shall we? And the defense used by flag burners is hypocritical. If you burn a flag, you're saying america is wrong. but it's only wrong when you can't use the constitution that defines america to support your crying of "america is wrong." essentially what it says is "America is wrong...except when i can use it to help myself out." Therefore, flag burning defeats it's own purpose, except when it's done by peope outside of our country.
And dingo? I love you baby, but the miltary thing is pretty much strait in my opinion. you join the army by signing your now-govt-owned body over to em, to do with it as they please. in return you get whatever you get. nice little paycheck, sense of duty and responsibility and what have you. And if you suddenly decide (after collecting a few years of peacetime govt-payolla of course) that you don't WANT to fight in the only offensive you've been sent on since you enlisted six years ago, and a number of other people do too, then you've just sentenced the 1/4 of your regiment that does feel duty bound to death anyway, because their brohas that are supposed to be backing them up, are now chilling at fort brag drinking margiritas (bought with Govt. cash of course). if you don't want the govt. holding that over your head, don't sign up. that simple!
My piece said, now start the flaming, because thats always how it ends up...
We're just distinguishing between disrespectful and illegal.Quote:
