Do Emerald and Ruby Deserve Their Fate?

Personally, I find it rather stuck up for the Homo Sapien race to apply the term "Human" solely to themselves. We use things like the capacity for sentience and complex thought and the ability to feel and to sympathize with others as ways of defining what is to be "Human," yet on shows like Star Trek where there are so many different races and species with all those characteristics, only the Earthlings get categorized as "Human." I think it's silly and arrogant, so I prefer to refer to Homo Sapiens as just that.

That's what I liked a great deal about Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The Homo Sapien race is simply called "the race of Man."

Funny you should mention Star Trek.

The offical guide to Deep Space Nine contends that H. Sapiens are human, while human-like races (like Klingons or Vulcans) are humanoids. I see nothing wrong with refering to our species as human. As for other sentient species, I think we should call them by whatever they call themselves.

In particular Star Trek VI tackles the issues of human-centrism, as when one Klingon explains to Chekov why she finds the term 'inalien humans rights' offensive.

And in a later scene Kirk tries to console Spock by telling him that he's 'only human'. When Spock says that's he's not human, Kirk confides that he thinks 'everyone's human', to which Spock comments dryly that he finds that remark insulting.

Anyways, back to the weapons:

Hojo's statement is certainly accurate about Sapphire, Diamond, and Ultima, but no doubt his speech was only referring to them, since Ruby and Emerald were added in later. What the game designers didn't do was show these two going on a rampage like the other three.

You have to [Edit: collide with] Emerald with a submarine and Ruby with the Highwind. In both cases you [Edit: can] to goad them into fighting. I can't blame them for getting testy.

That being said, I took them both out because I'm greedy and wanted the prizes. I just felt a little regret the last playthrough. Perhaps they really are too powerful to be let loose on the planet, but killing them them because they might wipe out humanity seems a little extreme.

90% of the time Emerald is the one who bumps into the submarine, not the other way around. Those bastards deserve everything they get.

OK, I changed the wording.

The point is that the party isn't goading Emerald into a fight if Emerald is the one who makes the collision and starts the battle, which is usually the case.

...sorry, miss-phrased that. What I meant was, in story terms, Vegnagun is just as dangerous, if not more than Ruby+Emerald. But in game terms, Vegnagun was rather weak.

It's certainly easy to accidently collide with Emerald given that it's often moving and it appears in different places when you dive or emerge from the crashed Gelnika. I try to avoid collisions with Emerald until I'm prepared to take it on and I usually am able to. But even if the party doesn't inititiate the collision, Emerald seems to regard it as provocation.

Fact:

Emerald Weapon has 1 million HP, but has weak skills.

and...

Ruby weapon has 700,000 HP, but has great skills.

Bottom line..........I HATE THEM BOTH!!!!!!!

sorry about that doctor science thing and stuff but its just barely anyone says homo sapien anymore i agree within lord of the rings saying race of men but there are elves and stuff and dwarves so they have a reason.there are a lot of other things though like scientist saying "felius sapien"or somethin like that instead of feline or simply cat but it just sounds so stupid some times.

back to the conversation.it is obvious for many reasons that they do deserve their fate.like being too powerful to be allowed to exist like vegnagun and also they dont just defend themselves but they try to kill others. so they do deserve it.

No way Emerald and ruby could kick Vegnaguns @$$!

I think they both deserved to die, they were just rearing to strike waiting for the right moment to strike!

I found ruby easier than Emerald jsut use nights of the round with w-summon 4 times for ruby.

Ruby deserves to die. It made a trauma in my brain. Unlike Emerald.

...Wait, Ozma did a worse trauma and I'd love to hug it anyway. So Ruby doesn't really deserve to die xD

eh? ruby is the easiest o_O if you know how(which I dont remember how, I haven't played FF7 for awhile) you can basically be invincible.

I believe it was something like.. counter attack.. everytime cloud gets attacked, he would cast KoTR with umm.. that HP absorb materia, so basically he would get attacked by a tentacle, then use KoTR, recover full health, get attacked by second tentacle, KotR etc etc, thats how I killed him.

No Weapon deserves to die! :( I love them all as if they were my own children! They are my cutie-cuties! :love:

I actually found the unavoidable deaths of Diamond and Sapphire Weapon to be extremely tragic... :cry:

I reckon they were just as dangerous, and just as much of a threat as anything else. At Junon, when Tifa wakes up, Barret explains that Weapon has been "goin' around tearing [img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img][img]/xxx.gif[/img] up". He never says which Weapon; it's fair to assume that he's using the word in its plural form, the way everyone else does. 'Weapon', when used as a singular, refers to one Weapon - e.g. Emerald or Ruby. But when it's used as a plural, it refers to the Weapons as a group.

I'd say it's fair to assume that the others have been causing trouble. They're certainly aggressive enough. All you have to do is walk up to Ruby and it'll go nuts. Same for Emerald. Both will attack first, rather than waiting to be struck.
