I agree with the threadstarter. ^_^
Although I am English, I do not say 'Uni', because I prefer to say University. :p
I say Uni. Oh America, how I have let you down.
I just say school. xD
Big school for brainy people!
Naw, I just say whatever. Sometimes I say college! Sometimes I say uni/university! Sometimes I say Ha, that buildings on fire and they will NEVER KNOW WHO STARTED IT before scurrying off into the distance laughing.
But there is actually a difference between 'em, you know. A college is where one subject is specialized. A uni is essentially made up of many colleges...
I think it's UnAmerican to have anything but this natty blue background to EoFF.
I call it uni, but it's also known as "varsity" in a few Commonwealth countries. That's 'cause of how it was pronounced in the old days. "Varsity" is a pretty neat word for it.
But I agree, it's definitely un-American to say "uni". In fact, I'd say it's down-right anti-American. Only a terrorist would say uni, so someone better tell the authorities so they can combat the serious threat posed by people all over the world who say "uni"...
Or maybe not.
Nothing un-American about it; it's just a different abbreviation. The only way it's wrong is if you think it's fundamentally bad to adopt slang from other cultures. For all I know, it's been called "uni" in America since time immemorial, anyway:)
It's wrong because it looks and sounds completely stupid. Hey guys from now on let's refer to public execution as "goo-goo ga-ga."
It's college or school, you commies.
Anybody who calls college uni needs to be DESTROYED.
But aren't they actually universities anyway?
In the states, a University is a collection of Colleges. For example, Rice University conists of ten colleges, which are segregated mostly based on major type. Each college has a collection of dorms, so on, and so forth.
Yeah, but colleges are for losers who didn't make it into uni.
Unless the college is part of the university. If you make it into UCLA, you don't make it into UCLA, you make it into UCLA School of ______ or ______ College. Etc.
Yes, but universities have various colleges within them. A college by itself, in the United States, is only qualified to give Bachelors Degrees.
Of course it's unAmerican. OMG!! USA! USA! USA!!!1
