I do have a question about the story though. How did Jecht end up in Spira ten years ago?

I'd like to add to that question. How did he end up as Sin?

Actually, how exactly Jecht wound up in Spira is unknown. He just left one day and never came back. How he came to Spira is unknown. If Sin brought him, then why?

As to how he became Sin, that I can explain. Every time a summoner summons the Final Aeon, Sin is destroyed. However, Yu Yevon possesses the Final Aeon and converts it into the next Sin. So, because the Final Aeon is now Sin, a new fayth is needed for a new Final Aeon. Jecht was Braska's fayth for the Final Aeon. So Jecht became the Final Aeon and, once Sin was defeated and Yu Yevon possessed him, Jecht became the next Sin.

Ok, next question. How did Jetch become Braska's fayth?

Yunalesca made him the fayth. You find that out when you get to Zanarkand.

Does it explain why she made him a fayth?

Yep. Braksa needed a fayth, and Jecht and Auron were there to be made into a fayth.

So braska needed a fayth for the final aeon?

When Tidus gets swept away by sin and ends up on the Al-Bhed ship, Rikku mentions that Zanerkand was destroyed a 1000 years ago. Now, did Sin transport Tidus into the future? Or was it done up by the Fayth?

There are two different Zanarkands. The real one, which was destroyed 1,000 years ago, and the dream one, which is a "dream of the fayth" and exists in current times. The dream depicts Zanarkand as though it had never been destroyed by the war, and it has remained as such until Sin arrives in Zanarkand 1,000 years after Zanarkand was initially destroyed.
