I've seen friends more than once and I've never seen this "how you doin' " thing.
I'm not one of those people that watched it religiously, but I did watch it quite a few times. Especially in the beginning. I can't speak for the later episodes. But I don't honestly think he did it all that much. But the first time he said it, it instantly became a trademark. So he didn't have to say it that much. I can actually only think of one instance ^_^'

Friends was ok for a luke warm non-stimulating comedy. I prefer English comedies, both the benign and the intellectual ones. I did, however, enjoy Friend's to a degree.
