After like maybe 2-5 classes of maybe a type of martial arts you will be able to defend yourself proficient enough incase a couple of thieves come up and try to hurt you. QUOTE]
replace "classes" with "years," and you will be proficient enough to defend yourself against multiple opponents without getting severely injured.
carrying weapons is a bad idea. those who are not experts in their use are relieved of their weapons far too easily only to have those same weapons used against them. ex. pull a gun on assailant and stick it in assailant's face. Assailant performs the very easy disarming technique, steps several paces back and fires two shots into one, first in the stomach to incapacitate, then in the head to kill.
One should not need more weapons than those one was born with. Every part of the human body is a weapon, either of distraction or of striking.
I never even think about protecting myself like carrying around a knife - I'd get arrested for it over here. The streets are really safe here in Australia, except more dangerous at night in certain places of course.

It's 100% safe where I live. We security guards at the drive-in and you can only get into our neighborhood if you have ID.
I travel in groups.
I have knives and guns (rifles and shotguns), but they're only used for hunting.
Unless you're living in da hood, its certainly not a good idea to carry around weapons.
Of course, in some places, its your gawd givin' raht to carry a guhn!!! yee haw!!!! Git 'em, Cooter!!!
nick isn't carrying a knife on the streets illegal? it certainly is here.
but personall if i was allowed to protect myself like an idiot with a knife or gun i would like a belt of c4 and a few grenades to carry around legally on the streets.
"honest guv it's just for self defence" cos that's the same excuse muggers will use when they have knifes.
I'm in the same situation, if I carried around a knife I'd probably get into a LOT of trouble, unless it's my handy-dandy box cutter *raises beloved box cutter into the air and watches it sparkle* well there is a blade in itQuote:

In reality I'd probably just run/walk away, or yell "FIRE!" apparently it's the best way to get attention. But there have been times when I have travelled about the city by myself and even caught trains and not have been the least bit threatened, and I'm only 15. So there really isn't any need to carry a knife or gun around. Not that either of them are actually legal...
I have a concealed carry permit, but I don't have my pistol with me, as I'm living in a dorm room and they tend to frown upon that. Usually I only bring it when I go on trips, especially out of state.
Yes, it DOES make me safer.
Uhhhh, I can run really fast.
I dont carry anything but my fists. Taking knives out is risky. And the fact that if someone did attack me, I wouldnt stab them. Then you will be in big doo doo. Even if your seen with the knife. You will get in trouble.
I dont get hassled on the streets anywayz :D....
My fists and feet are the best weapons, and they'll always be with me. If people cross me and wind me up (doesn't happen - has happened once) I'll sort myself out, but i don't go and beat people up for the sake of it. I went kickboxing - so i suppose that kinda helps, but otherwise, no weapons as such, only what i was gifted
I just give 'em the laaaaaaaaazy eeeeeeeye.
If any of you get that hug me.
*huggles*
why am i hugging you again?
