Trevor Dunn
duff makagen and jason newstead :)
I wish to add to my selection Rex Brown of Pantera, who when talking about great bassist rarely comes up, yet if you listen to his stuff it's spot on. The fact he could keep up with Dimebag is testament to that.
OMG. I can't believe no one's said Billy Sheehan. He's awesome! Dave LaRue and John Myung ain't too shabby, either...
Hmm...
Duff McKagan
Oliver Riedel
Flea
Keiji Kawamori
I assume all of you guys are bassists too? If so, I have found my calling, and this is the best board ever.
I play bass and guitar. :cool:Quote:

Whoever plays the bass in one of Yanni's live tracks... I think it might be The Rain Must Fall, although I'm not sure. Either way, one of Yanni's tracks has one really good bass solo in it, I love it.
Usually, though, I don't love bass solos as much as a simple but nifty bass beat - Level 42, for example, use bass to great effect in songs such as Running In The Family, as do the Killers in Jenny Was a Friend of Mine. Simple bass lines > Complex bass lines.
Flea > all
Flea
Les Claypool
Jason Newstead
Krist Novoselic
Although Newstead is not even close to the level of Flea and Claypool, Metallica just hasn't been the same without him :( As well, the late Cliff Burton of Metallica was awesome, too.
Likewise with Novoselic, Nirvana wouldn't have been Nirvana without him :p
And for those who don't know, Flea's actual name is Michael Balzary (just thought I'd throw that little tidbit of info in there) :p He's my alltime favorite.
Cliff Burton is overrated in the technical aspect; I've got no real problems playing any of his stuff.
As a songwriter, though, he was awesome. :)
