I would go for the week in jail, i mean you get to keep the money. Plus you get a new expirience make some new friends then no one will mess with you since you went to jail they'll think your so tough.

If I had the choice, I'd take the $600 fine. If I ever had to go to jail, I'd be devastated.
But, I would get mad and try and contest the ticket. If you car doesn't run, what can you do about it? It only matters how long it was there. If it was there for 2 weeks, I can understand, but if it was like what happened to me (when I ran out of gas on the freeway), I just wrote a note on the dashboard saying that I was on my way to get gas. The cop wrote a note on my car's window pretty much saying "It's okay, don't leave it here all day."
You'd think parking your car wouldn't be such a big deal. My old car is sitting outside my apartment in a guest parking spot, and after a couple weeks of not driving it they put a "move it or lose it" ticket on my car. So I moved it two spaces over. Pains in the asses.
Your friend is dumb for not just moving it after he got the ticket. They tell you before they fine you.
