First-gen of EVERYTHING is normally unstable and prone to malfunction, this is not something only common to Sony, it's just with the mainstream nature of Sony products that such malfunctions are publicised.

I guarantee you we will see PS3s overheating day one. It's inevitable. They produce a lot of heat and you know all those nerds live in their parent's basement.
Well, if it was your fault, you have no right to be mad any anyone. I, however, take great care of every console I own, and if that's not enough, I get annoyed. I didn't get a PS2 at launch just because I didn't want one. I know three people who did, though, and they've all had their own problems. One of them treats his games and consoles like they're made of glass and his still conked out on him. Like it or not, the reality is that first model Sony video game hardware (better?) has a terrible track record. With three misses out of three attempts, it's a safe bet that attempt number four is going to be a miss as well.
