Vincents does it for me but only because i have played his new game if i hadent then it would probably be cloud or Sephiroth

Cid was always my favorite character from VII. That guy had a way with words......usually 4 letter words.
Cid. He wasn't the character I used the most(that would be Red XIII) but he was my fave.

Cloud is my favorite character in FFVII. It's hard to say who's next, Tifa or Aeris. Sephiroth is quite a good character, but I prefer many of the playable characters. I think Cid, Yuffie and Red XIII are also pretty good characters.
Gotta say Cloud. Personalitywise, Battle-characterwise and Storywise. I'll explain why he is my favorite character in each of these departments.
Personality: A heartless, bad-ass mercenary goes through adventure after adventure with allies of all sorts to battle a large corperation eventually turned upside-down with love from a simple flower girl. Nice ring to it. He has an interesting development of character compared to Squall and Zidane. (Those guys almost have NO developmental stages whatsoever.) He feels a bonding love between him and Aeris, he gets used to whatever little companions he has, and he fights Sephiroth for feelings beyond personal revenge. He strengthens in personality throughout the game. (Except during the Lifestream Journey, he's just plain Mr. Coma there.) In other words, he's likable, but it'll take some doin'.
Battle ability: Who could say how strong Cloud really is. I can. He's obviously stronger than Sephiroth by the end of the game, which is demonstrated at the final battle. (Final FINAL battle.) If you choose to defend, Sephy attacks and Cloud rips him apart with his counterattack, proving his physical superiority over Sephiroth. He even holds a large supply of Limit Breaks, and MAN, do they hurt! Early on, have any of you used Climhazzard on Rufus? If so, you know what I'm talking about. His Limit Breaks continue to provide usefulness throughout the game as boss after boss ambush you. He has his Classic Braver, which is greater than Cross Slash and Blade Beam in terms of power, but Cross Slash can paralyze anything it touches, from aardvark to zebra and Blade Beam knows its way around a group, if you know what I mean. Climhazzard is the best move to use when it comes down to sheer power. Meteorain is the best group-grabbing attack, rivaled by it's unique partner, Finishing Touch, but Omnislash is the Attack of all Attacks.
Home Story: He is basically a boy who got into an incident with an ace known as Sephiroth when journeying with a friend, being Zack. When Sephy goes crazy, Zack and Cloud confront him. Unexplainable, Cloud survives Sephy's sword and plundges him into a pit of Mako, killing him. He and Zack were used as guinea pigs. Zack liberated him, causing the Shinra soldiers to gun him down, therefore allowing the bastard to take his sword and join AVALANCHE. That's basically 2 horribly long scenes in a nutshell.
Well, that's my logic for respecting the oh-so awesome Cloud. (Also, Zack's a close second.)
reno rulz0000rrrrrrr, but i dunno if he's my favourite, vincent also rocks (voted for him) and cloud is very close behind, but i also love barret, red and cait sith (not in the homo way :P). its too hard to choose.
P.S. Sephiroth dominates as well, but i can beat his ass :P (hope this doesnt get reported :()
