I had to get back to work, that was my lunch time and I had taken a nap. This game has been keeping me up at night.
So I found a stalagmite today that has +3 to fire skills, +1 to fire mastery and a plus to meteor and glacial spike. Of course, it's magical. If only it had been a normal stalagmite, imagine it socketed with Leaf! :love:

Chzn8r, I searched for ATMA, downloaded it, then ran a virus scan on it. It had spyware/viruses in it so I tossed it. :(
ATMA has spyware? Huh, weird. I don't really check for spyware anymore; I've never particularly noticed negative effects of it in my computer history.
So many people swear by ATMA for drop calculations, I dunno why nobody would mention something like "But be wary; ATMA comes with spyware" or something before saying to download it.
As far as viruses go, my virus scanner (which is very thorough) never caught anything when I downloaded or installed it.
ANYWAYS, it's super useful, and I really don't see anything to fear about it.
On the topic at hand: the whole uber Tristram thing will always be a myth to me. It's so far above and beyond anything I'll ever be able to experience in Diablo. Despite the story about the poor player being able to do it, I would not have the right character (or the will, or the timing, or the perseverance) to do it, and I would never feel safe doing it which such equipment anyways. Plus, just to get there is a pain in the ass. Aren't there like a billion steps in between (endlessly hunting for keys, then doing all kinds of steps involving other ubers and body parts, only to get to the Tristram itself).

GUYS, somebody get on if you can. So far over 9000 (OVER 9000! lol) SOJs sold to merchants. Seems very likely that Uber Diablo could spawn for annihilus. And I have no way to kill him on my own, and I don't want to leave my game since it's obviously good (since I got the message).
edit: though I don't know what happens if one of you helps me. Only one annihilus would spawn and it would be up for grabs.
It'd take someone with absolute skill and a mastery of game mechanics to be able to pull it off. Someone like me, except better at both categories. However, I have been in Tristram before, with my friends from two seasons ago on a Barbarian, casting BO and slicing through with my Swords Frenzy Barb, while my previous season's Lite Sorc could easily contribute to the death and carnage at Tristram (though she has yet to do so).
Could it be that you downloaded ATMA from an untrustworthy source? D2Sector is generally problem free for me, but I don't fill up my Diablo II folder up with unnecessary things as quickly as I used to.
Also, my Assassin pwns things with only 1 skill point into everything. The dilemma however, is whether I should go Phoenix Strike/synergies, or go for Venom/physical. I don't have very good boots, and I'm leaning toward the latter. However, the question even further remains should I choose a specialty as to which skill I should max first.

With Tiger Strike, I could get either Might or Freeze for an alternative source of damage. But the Master should be able to do that, but only if she is high enough, and spawns with decent equipment. With Phoenix, Might would be fairly useless, and Freeze would be my only option. If my AR sucks enough, I could get Aim, but Mastery should suffice. Phoenix Strike offers crowd control, and dual elements, and a way to deal with Physical Immunes. Why did they make the assassin have too many viable options?
Also, we need to find a way to get everyone online at once, so that we could do private Baal runs. SRL and Chzn8r (who I will sometimes refer to as ch00n) we discussing the viability of said runs. We have at least five characters that I know of capable of doing Hell:
My Enchant/Orb and Barb (since you can't make Baal flee in fright)
SRL's Singing Barb for the stunlock
Mulley's Lite Sorc
Fonzie's Hammerdin
I'm not sure where Chz's characters are now, but if I recall his Sorc should be in her 80s, while Dragon's Sorc doesn't seem to do anything past Mephisto; however, the WolfBarb might be able to contribute when he flowers in Hell (by the way, if you need weapons, let me know). And when Cim gets off his lazy bum, his Summoner Necro can tag along (Revives, because Skellies tend to lag). We are still waiting on BawB and StunlockedCat to get to Hell, but again, we are not to violate the Prime Directive.
tl;dr, I need to learn how to play using two computers, or Mulley does, since he HAS two computers. Maybe set up some kind of things where he tapes down his hotkeys and Shift and the Left click so that the Sorc spams Lightning non-stop, while micromanaging either my Sorceress or my Barbarian for uber epic killage. Because I definitely know that my characters are capable of it.
yeah my sorc is solely a meph mf'er... wolf barb can definitely cause some havoc in baal runs once hes ready (and yes i could use a good weapon, i want a griz set weapon caus i can put 4 shael in there for the attack speed, but will settle for something in the meantime)..... i have a hammerdin i was workin on but dont feel like building him up til i have the necessary tools(equipment) to bring him to his full potential.

As far as doing community Baal runs, my Sorcess can kill in hell if she has somebody to soak up the blows, and currently her mercenary/meatstick only lasts a few seconds at anything outside of Act 1.
My Hammerdin just entered Hell and should be able to solo most things given a bit more gear once he's gotten to the end of hell. I just made a Spirit shield from him (WOW what a cheap runeword!) out of a Protector Shield with 21 native resistance to all. In one fell swoop I solved nearly all of his resistance problems AND gave him more skills, life, mana, and defense :D Currently his hammers are up to about 4.8k at level 69, and I still have a few points to put in Concentration and about 15 to put in Blessed Aim.
As for Uber Diablo, I've been able to kill him in the past with old Druid builds of mine, but there were also times where he'd spawn in a game where I was a Sorceress and I didn't want to leave so I had my friend Jon come in with his Hammerdin. I don't recall traditional Uber Diablo being THAT hard to bring down. Nothing like the horror stories I hear about Uber Mephisto and Uber Baal. I just wish he'd spawned last night :( That SOJ message got me so excited.

Yesterday while I was playing I found an ethereal Dusk Shroud with 630 defense. I used the socket recipe which resulted in an ethereal two socket Dusk Shroud with just under 1000 defense. I threw a Nef and Lum into it and ended up with this beauty:

Or he could use it for a mid-level Dexazon (Bow-wielding Amazon with all points placed in Dexterity, essentially a glass cannon build that never wishes to be hit) or a Trapper Assassin.
There's also a an ethereal repair bug he could exploit, but I doubt Mulley would do it.

I'd be happy with anything that actually makes being a Barbarian easier when dealing with major bosses. Danielle has the easy life of keeping distance from Mr. Diablo and firing in her meteors, while I have to wander up to him, dodge his electric fire attacks which generally kill me in half a second and hack away at him until I die, then run back, grab my kit and repeat. :( It's not easy bein' a Barb in a Barb/Sorc duet.

Personally, I would recommend Duriel's Shell.
Diablo's Lightning Storm also causes physical damage, so if you have anything that grants Reduce Damage by x/x% than that will also help increase your length of life.

EDIT: Nom, I don't think that they are that high of a level yet. From my understanding they only just got to Act V in normal today, after beating Diablo. The only real thing they could use at this point is the Hsarus set, which they should have outgrown already, and Spirit Shroud (although I do have one of those). A Barb/Sorc should be able to cut through stuff, but seeing as this is Ladder, not Single-Player or NL, life should be significantly more difficult.
I've maintained a policy of trying to interfere as little as possible, such as not quoting documentation or possible items until after they have already reached Hell, or any advice at all, as a courtesy for new players (and they truly are new players). I don't want to have to corrupt their souls with mechanics, numbers, and Excel just quite yet. In the future maybe, but for now, I would imagine that most people here should interfere only with things that are potentially available to them that they could have gotten, if they played more often/grinded harder. But since playing more obsessively is not an option, we can only do what we can as observers.
Ah, I see. Hmm, well, in that case, the only thing that he can do is madly quaff Thawing Potions prior to the fight and hope that Diablo doesn't cast Hellfire and Lightning Storm too much, depending on his resists.

My Sorceress uses Orb more often just out of convenience, but her main kill is Meteor. I think hers are at ~4.5 or ~4.8kish right now with very little +skills. My Fury WW Druid just got to Nightmare but with some of the gear I've got I can imagine him being very good. This is the first time I've ever had the old 1.09 "Damage Reduction" trifecta - Shaftstop, Vampire Gaze, and String of Ears. I'm going to up the Shaftstop and put in a Pruby. It should have like 1500 Defense and 100 Life, yeah yeah.
once i find a hoz and arachnid ill be starting the hammerdin... i can substitute the hoto with a spirit until find a vex or premade hoto.
Question: I have a Superior Scarab Husk, 508 defense. Obviously that's very good given the str requirement (95), in fact it's better than the best of plain Archon Plates. The problem is I can't run the socket formula on it because it's superior. Would it be worth spending a socket quest on this to give it 4, allowing for Chains of Honor (I wouldn't make but could trade it off) or to make a Stone for myself? Or if I'm going to do stone I should probably wait for something bigger and eth because it'd be an obvious Merc armor.

Is the Conviction on Infinity strong enough to break immunities?
For Lightning Sorcs, yes, it is strong enough to break every Lite-immune regular enemy in the game, with the exception of the Cow King.
Mmm, I'd have to do the math, but I'd say on average a lv 12 Conviction will break a good 70% of the immunities in the game. Some immunities go up to 150, and lv 12 Conviction will only do -17 to the immunity when it's trying to break it. They probably have the immunities at intervals of 5, so if you have anything with an immunity of more than 115, then I don't think it will break the immunity.
However, if you are wanting to use this for a lighting based character (i.e. your ZappyMulley), then I don't believe there is a lighting immunity on a none unique that is higher than 115, so it would be a very wise choice there.
Good news. Of course, there's just the little matter of getting all of those high runes...
Well, I have an Ist I no longer need to use, so if you get the two Ber runes you need, you can have mine.
Man, perusing the Rune Word list again... there are SOOOOO many equally great and viable runewords for many builds. It's crazy how many of them get ignored just for the standard BOTD, CoH, Enigma, Hoto, and various others.
But most of them require so many high runes which I'll just never have :(
Well, actually I spotted a pretty cheap one I want to use my 5os Cryptic Axe. I'd just need to get a Fal rune for "Obedience". I could put this on my Druid's mercenary - the Enchant would definitely help him & I take on Physical Immunes, and the other stats are just beastly to begin with. Guaranteed 370% ED? 40% CB? Those alone make it worth it.
Most likely ignorance is a result of the extended length of Season 3. By that point, people weren't looking for items that merely "sufficed," it was necessary to obtain weapons that were at the end of a build. Since BotD and Hoto were the "uber weapons," their existences as the only weapon for a class were solidified. Cookie cutter builds were the only items that one could trade for. People don't realize that they have to find the build that works for them as a player.
Of course, since I've suffered the poor syndrome for every season, I know how to make use of everything. Frankly, BotD is too costly for what it provides. But then again, Diablo II is all about self-sufficiency and riches.
I decided I want to do a Melee Sorceress or Necromancer instead.
If someone could help me to through (AKA leveling/rushing/items), that would be grand. Crawling through Vanilla Diablo is a little dull...
I'm guity of usually starting with cookie-cutter builds (though not necessarily equipment setups - usually because I'm too poor), but only to get the goods necessary to finance and support the more interesting characters I do towards the end of any Diablo 2 addiction. I want to do 3 kinds of other Druids (other than the WW druid I usually do) I haven't done in a while. I've gotten an Elementalist (Hurricane/Tornado) all the way to high level but it wasn't that fun/interesting. I'm going to try a pure Summoner (with WearBear & Shockwave to back them up), a Earthshifter Druid (if I can get the weapon) who uses Armageddon while transformed, and either a Hunger or Fire Claws WearBear.
Also, my current Druid is gearing towards a high-end Maul as his end-game weapon but I think if I back off points into Str before it's too late (I already have like 170 or 180 base) I could turn him into a Ribcracker Druid who could challenge Ubers :D

I've just discovered the joy of low level runewords for when you don't have much to be working with. My Light sorc's level 20 merc has a Malice Poleax, I'm using a Leaf (just fors and giggles - free lvl 6 Inferno, and +6 to warmth! lol) and at lvl 27 I have a Lore coming while my Merc has an Insight coming.
Now if I could find some 4os shields/swords...
You're going to have to settle for Swords for now. Monarchs have about a 50some level requirement, and 156 Strength to carry. Those are the lowest non Paladin shields that can have four Sockets.
Heh. I guess I'll never be making a Spirit Monarch then. That STR requirement is too high for any sorceress (and I can't count on having sorc gear that provides +50 or more to strength) and there's no point in making a Monarch Spirit for a Paladin.
Also, I took a gamble and traded a Pul I found for 40 Pgems. I got about 10 Amethysts and a bunch of others - I used the others to re-roll a late Hell grand charm a bunch of times and got jack :( But so far I've made 2 decent crafts with the amethysts. I actually feel gipped - I got a +2 [i]defensive[i] Auras ammy with 10 FCR, 12 Resist All, +18 Dexterity, and plus life and mana as well. I also got another insane level requirement +20 STR (with other stats) ring.
I actually use a Spirit Monarch on my Sorceress from the previous season. With a 15 Torch and Anni, that covers 30 Str right there. Monarchs are also frequently used to max out Facets.Quote:

I got a connection interrupted (fair enough, sometimes that happens when a game I'm in gets really busy or lags) but then it kicked me off B.net entirely and now I can't even log back in. Not fair! blame the hackers... blizzard to had to resort to such a system to stop the hacks..... of course it didnt work. It's kinda like how in most states in the US, honest law abiding people arent allowed to carry guns but the criminals who dont care about the law have them anyway. I get those realm downs alot... but im legitimately mfing... any of the good mf BOTS out there have pre-programmed game making/exiting delays and other things that prevent them from getting realm downed... while the legit players get screwed... its just how it is now.. nothing u can doQuote:

uber runewords changed everything... if there was a +3 all skill helm runeword... shakos would be garbage.
Crafted a caster ammy that has 85 lvl requirement and could probably go both ways in terms of what kinds of builds could use it (caster vs physical)

+15 resistance to all
4% mana stolen per hit
I forget the rest, it's a mix of mana, mana regen, and some other useless stat (probably attack rating).
Between this ammy and a couple rings I have, I could totally outfit a sorc w/ low base strength with a Spirit monarch :choc2:

I just recently picked up the game again to play on U.S. West with a couple of my friends. Last time I played the game, I was a barbarian halfway through nightmare before making an assassin and taking it to Act 5 Nightmare before losing interest and putting the game down. This time I want to make a Hammerdin, at the advice of one of my friends. Only problem is, I don't have any experience with paladins but I think it might be kinda fun to try out. Any tips you can give me on builds or usage before I settle into it?
Well if u wanna play with us EoFF guys come over to USEast... lots of support from this community (items*within reason*, rushes, advice, etc).... as for Hammerdins - max out blessed hammer and its synergies, max holy shield last... gets lots of +skill items.... find a big group of monsters... activate blessed hammer... then laugh and smile

I made a necro and I'm in need of random cheap gear, anything will do, this char will just be used for a MFer until I can make my 'real' character with proper gear.
if u want an easier time mfing... especially with meph... i would recommend using a sorceress. they have teleport which is essential to quick item finding.... make either a blizzard or fireball spamming sorc.

Why can't I just have ONE complete MF character?
My Meteorb Sorc and Paladin both have Normal and Hell Andy bugged but not Nightmare, while my Lightning Sorc has Normal and Nightmare Andy bugged but not Hell. Argh. I'd like to just have one single Sorceress, with dedicated MF gear, tanking Merc (for act bosses), and all Andariel's bugged. I fail miserably.
Back to that Hell rush... I got to A5 and then did some Chaos runs, went from like lvl 49 to lvl 60 in 2 runs lol. So now I have to find somebody for Hell Ancients.
What does bugging Andy mean?
Makes her drop at least three items (Q drop) every time; you have to talk to Warriv I believe right after killing Andy.
My Lightning Sorc from last season never bugged her, and she seemed to be fine. Of course, I refused to MF in anything but Baal runs after Infinity, so. I also had about 380% MF and awesome items up the wazoo.
Well my smiter just got to NM so I'm going to have to investigate this for him.

I typically speak with Warriv to go to Act 2 after I defeat Andy, so my chars should have the bug activated.
I wouldn't be so upset about lacking Nightmare Andy on my other chars, because face it, anybody would rather do Nightmare Mephisto or Diablo, BUT, quest Nightmare Andy has the highest chance to drop Stone of Jordan in the game. And SOJs aren't exactly in big supply in this ladder season, yet at least 3 of my characters need them... and they're always great trade value of course.
SoJ is the only reason I'm adamant about including Andy in my NM mf'ing runs. :p
p.s. Every time someone says "mf" I always think of mothersmurfing and it makes me chuckle.

The whole reason for using SOJs back when it switched to 1.10 was because there were countless duped SOJs all over battle.net. Many accounts had stashes just chock full of them. They were the currency and at one point were so duped and dirt cheap it would take like 8 SOJs to get something decent (we're talking mid-level uniques here). So it made sense that Blizzard was giving incentive for people to "destroy" those SOJs in order to clear the dupes off the realms and get them back to normalized levels. So for a while on non-ladder SOJs were plentiful and each time a selling message came around, you could bet Uber Diablo would spawn.
But nowadays, say on a Ladder where everything is fresh... SOJs are so damn rare, nobody can so easily give them up. They're almost as rare as the Annihilus charms themselves, and even if you sell yours there's no guaruntee it'll lead you to an Anni.
They should come up with a new way for Anni-dropping Uber D to spawn.
but theres still tons of them on non-ladder... if there sold in a non ladder game of the same IP server as a ladder game ur in... they'll spawn the clone

Yeah, as Dragon said, SoJ sales on NL also affect Ladder, since they both use the same server IP addresses in determining which server DClone spawns on, and in such a case where 100 SoJs are sold at the start of the counter, DClone will spawn on all games using that server.

since im finding lots of stuff now that my sorc is fully mf'ed im thinking of making an eoff item bank... basically an account or 5 with items that characters use, of course access would be restricted to me and senior members(trustees) of the eoff d2 team(tav, mulley, etc) any new players can get something from those players upon request, it's more efficient than ppl holding items on their mules, with ppl waiting for that player to come online... input needed.

I've been been building a Smiter, which is a lot of fun, considering I've never played a Paladin before. I also did half a dozen Hell Countess runs yesterday for runes. She never dropped above an Ort, but she did give me another Tal's Ammy and an Ali Baba, so it wasn't a total waste.

Once I'm done recording my items, I'll be sending an Excel Spreadsheet with my items to Mulleybear. I'll be focusing more on my DotAness from now on. I just can't play DII anymore, unless people get on and want to party to journey through for quests. I have found that the only time I had real fun besides getting drops, was the first week of Ladder. Me, SRL, and Mulley were just roaming around, getting as far as we could. But now that we're in Hell, all we do is MF. Not fun; it's fun on my Lite Sorc from NL, but not this season.

I created a Dragoon Barbarian the other day for a novelty build. I don't know how strong he'll be later in the game. Due to the agility requirements of spears, I'll have to figure out what type of charms I'll need to hold in addition to my resistances to even stay alive. I have a feeling that life steal is going to be crucial. I might need to upgrade my Bloodthief so I can keep it's 11% life steal for now and maybe socket it so I can put in some more life steal.
Cheap, efficient, and deadly; an Honor (Amn + El + Ith + Tir + Sol) in a Stygian Pike or Ghost Spear; the next cheapest would be Passion, and after that, the only thing I can think of next that goes into a Spear in the first place would be an EBotD. The Stygian is probably easier to manage, due to having the traditional "more Str than Dex" requirement. Once you get to level 81, I can offer you my Arioc's Needle I was going to save for my Artsin's mercenary (155/120). You could also try crafting Safety Spears (Magic Spear, PEmerald, Jewel, Sol Rune) and hope for a sick, 300% ED weapon, IAS, +Max damage based on cLvl, and +AR based on cLvl. No guaranteed 60% from Blood or Hit Power for you.
I also have an Arreat's for you, a spare Shaftstop, and other goodies, which I'm sure you've got your eyes on by now. Either way, you're either going to have to pump Str and Dex for large damage bonuses, or Vita for the life you will desperately need. As far as your Skill build goes, it should be obvious: Leap Attack, Leap, BO, Shout, and Mastery. With no block, you're going to actually need to be able to survive hits.

I've been playing off and on, I finally bit the bullet and tried out a Hammerdin. But grad school starts for me this week so my playing time will be greatly reduced, probably to 10-15 minutes once or twice a day of doing a Countess run or such when the mood grabs me.

I kinda miss this game. I miss being in games with Cim where we talk about nonsense and all the other party members tell us to die in wonderful ways. -sigh- Cim is the twin I always wished for.
You know, I never played with you that often, really. We chatted and transferred more than not. I did play more with Cim, Fonzie, Mulleybear, SRL, and Nom, even if not in that order specifically.
Yeah, we never really did get to play much together. It's too bad :( I never played with Mulley that much either. Though he actually played through the game and hell will freeze before I play Act III.
I believe playing together is much more fun then the alternative. :p
If I was in a full game or something, then I would actually play-play through the whole thing (except Act III). But usually when I was on it was just this person or that person, so I rushed. Rushed towards what? Monotony and boredom. What logic I have.
I like making themed builds that make the game more interesting.
Melee Necromancer, Axe-wielding Sorceress, Dragoon-like Paladin, Sword-wielding Amazon to get the Battlemaiden theme, and the most annoying character of all time, the Totem Barbarian with ridiculously low calls.
I can't tell you how many times I was hostiled when using this character.
I liked the bow druid with pets xD

I died in one second... but thanks to Cim's super club of doom I also killed them in a milisecond.
Huh, that was a first for me. I was doing a Baal run and he was frozen when I killed him, so he shattered like other enemies when they are frozen. No dying and puking animation. Then, after about five seconds the animation where the souls are released fired off.
Baal's death can lead to strange things sometimes...
Tyrael has decided to open Destruction's End OFF the pathway - a place I cannot possibly reach. Not really a bad thing, since you can still beat the game without going through it, but odd nonetheless.
I've also seen Baal teleport near the upper left edge of the pathway (towards the very center of the Worldstone Chamber), die, but then had his body shift slightly, so that he died in midair.
I've also seen Mephisto just outright smurfing disappear rather than go through his animation.
