I love Zero from Drakengard 3. She's such a fun character. She causes an avalanche by yelling and the calls the snow, pussy ass snow. I love banter going on during levels, reminds me of Kid Icarus. But with more swearing. Same amount of snark. I complained about the camera and slowdown in the other topic, but when the game runs smoothly its a lot of fun. I like the fist weapons because they're so fast its like you're zipping around the level and dodge dancing around the bigger guys.
You have to endure a lot to get to truly enjoy Drag-on Dragoon 3 in all of its glory. That you already like it is a good sign.Quote:

Probably the best presentation I've ever seen in a video game. The OST is also the best I've heard in years.
So I'm really only at the start of the Witcher 2 but I can already see it has a WAY more compelling villain than 1.
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. Although very difficult, the story is very intriguing and it makes me willing to go through all the hard parts to figure out what happens next!
Rogue Legacy, it's challenging and chaotic at times but it has that "lesson learnt, let's try again!" kind of addiction, as well as randomly generated dungeons for a nice sense of unpredictability. I also love the way your heirs hold the sword whilst running, great game.
Iv'e just started playing games after a half-year long Dark Souls/Bloodborne binge so a lighthearted platformer is very welcome as Dark Souls is sooo miserable.
Zero Time Dilemma - Telling the story through fragments allows for this game to be played in quick hits which suits my lifestyle. I also think the room puzzles are fun and not too long or difficult to the point where you get frustrated because you just want to get back to the story. It's also interesting to see the main characters from the previous two games as NPCs.
I am loving how edgy Persona 5 is. Got some really twisted trout going on in the main plot which is a nice step from the more ho-hum elements of the last couple of entries. Also, I'm digging the dungeon design and the new mechanics in combat, especially Baton Pass, which opens up a lot of possibilities for strategy and can finally bring back the ability to take advantage of lucky critical hits from P3. Overall the presentation and characters are great and I'm digging most of the new elements and expanded old elements the game is bringing to the table. This is how you do a numbered sequel.
Fire Emblem: Echoes. I love how different it is from the other Fire Emblems. It's more traditional than the last couple of entries, but it's got some nice twists to the gameplay.
Finished Horizon Zero Dawn. Can definitely say that it was worth the 2 years I have waited for it. Now to wait for the sequel.
Haven't got around to buying Horizon Zero Dawn yet but I'm looking forward to getting around to it. I'll bite when I can get it a bit cheaper, and once I've finished what I'm currently playing...Quote:

Fire Emblem Echoes. I love the art style (they have feet now! hurray!) and exploring dungeons in third person is very different from any FE game I've ever played. The characters are all good too. I was afraid they'd have no character at all, like Shadow Dragon, but I was pleasantly surprised.

While it's true that the world isn't as interconnected as DS1, I think that Majula is really well done. Having a hub world where you can easily upgrade and repair equipment, bring all the NPCs together, and purchase anything you need is super cool. I really prefer DS1's approach, but Majula grew on me as the game progressed.
I've been harping too much on Drakengard, so to throw it a bone, the story and characters are interesting. I especially love the lore you get from the weapons you unlock, which makes leveling them feel worthwhile.
Also, Ymir's Finger (hammer type weapon) and this short sword I picked up are insanely useful. The hammer weapon just has great knockdown effect which makes dealing with groups so much easier as well as tougher foes. The short sword is awful on its own but it's magic spell, Sword of Damocles is overpowered as hell and leveling it turned out to be super easy.
Death of a Fansite is glorious.
Valkyrie Drive: Bhukkini has an incredibly generous selection of costumes, and has very solid hack and slashing mechanics. Especially when you consider a) it's a Vita port and b) it's mainly a game about dressing girls up and making them kiss.
Two other bonus points:
- It has a pretty good soundtrack.
- It comes with a Japanese interface & text option, which is pretty rare.
The bug infested Death of a Fansite feels like we are all part of it. Though playing it and posting here without receiving the key yet seems to put the mind into a paradox.
Finished Metal Gear Solid 4 yesterday, and now I'm working on the platinum trophy.
Easily one of the best stories in all of gaming. That final boss fight is one of the most iconic and memorable moments I've ever experienced.
While I have my laundry list of grievances against Drakengard, I'll give them a nice pat on the back for how they setup the story mode mechanically. Basically the plot is split up into chapters with verses representing the individual missions and cutscenes, and you often have to dive back into a chapter because some verses are blocked off until you meet some requirement for it. What's cool about it is that you can replay any part of the plot (including the endings you unlock) whenever you want to which makes it easier to remember the story but more importantly, makes acquiring the games 60+ weapons needed for the fifth ending.
I just finished Prey.
I quite enjoyed it. Fairly reminiscent of the original Bioshock if you gave it a science fiction setting, instead of a steampunk one. Although the people left alive are not usually actively trying to kill you. It also seemed to me like it captured the creepiness of metamorphic space aliens better than Dead Space did.
If that at all sounds fun, I heartily recommend trying it out. Fun game.
Finally got around to Uncharted 4. What a god damn incredible and intense spectacle. Except it doesn't just feel like a spectacle fight, it legit feels like you're doing it. It feels great to play.
I passed on Salt and Sanctuary for Guacamelee and it's much more my speed. Love the cool powers you get and making crazy combos. I like that the focus is on exploration rather than difficult encounters, though it does have some challenge. The dimension switching is also a cool gimmick. Also I love the call backs to Metroid and Zelda. My only complaint is that it is too short.
Little Witch Romanesque - It's so fun and there's some good characters. I like all of the different endings based on what you did throughout the game. There are a few bad ends but most are just different good ends based on which quests and things you did, which is nifty
King of Fighters XIV - The characters are pretty fun
Steins;Gate - Interesting story, self aware, and I like how it pokes fun at the usual tropes
Yomawari: Night Alone - So cute and sad and spoopy without being too spoopy
Battle Princess of Arcadias - Cuteness and pretty fun and funny
L.A. Noire - Great detail, fun, engaging

I was going to do that Quest in persona, but by the time I finished the first run through of the game, I was tired of it. The actual story and some of the details seemed interesting to me, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to it.
I actually jumped into it right away so that I could just close the whole thing. The SQQ isn't that bad really. It's really only challenging if you attempt the max ambrosia run, and even then it mostly requires patience and good preparation. I actually kind of regret doing that run since I ended up beating the game without even reaching high enough levels to make ultimate personas, so it all felt kinda pointless. Get Lilim and you'll win, basically. If you have Lilim, you'd have to be really careless to lose the last battle.
But yeah, agreed on the conveyor belt sections. And agreed on the cast. SQQ's party is just so much more fun than the SEBEC guys.
Dark Forces is really fun once you fix the painfully dated control scheme. I wish Disney would use it as inspiration for their next Star Wars story, hell they almost did for Rogue One.

Final Fantasy IX.
I'm not very far in but it's been great so far! Just travelling through the ice cavern. Really enjoying the character interactions. Not sure about Zidane yet but Steiner and Vivi are my favourites. I'm not massively feeling the card game but I'll persevere with it.

Blue Reflection - MAGICAL GIRLS. The boss fights are great and really take advantage of the game's battle system

I've been playing Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor lately.
OMFG! I'm in love with this game, I've had a few situations where I slaughtered some captains though, only for them to pop up again as "Nope you didn't kill me just yet!" which is ironic since one lost his entire head in an execution but apparently that was a figment of mine/Tallion's imagination.
I also had some problems with a posse of 3 captains, 2 second rank captains and a third rank captain going around together and showing up where I was. As one was a ranged fighter and one couldn't be countered it made for an awkward situation when fighting them, they managed to peg me 2 times before I noticed having just done a legend of the sword mission that required me to ride a Caragor that they had split up... both second tier captains had fears of Caragors, of course, I immediately hunted both of them down and slaughtered them by feeding them to my tame beasty.
The biggest issue I have is that I find it hard to want to do the main story missions haha. I'm so far at the very start of the story (2 of 20 missions complete) but I'm having so much fun killing captains and building up my power rating. I'll be doing some story missions soon to ensure I get the story only abilities sorted out as I have all the abilities from the first power level above the basic start already aside from the story exclusive ones.
Metroid Zero Mission has possibly the tightest controls in the 2D series, and the small map sizes make it ideal for portable play.

Final Fantasy: Negative One has done a fantastic job reworking the original title overall, and I especially appreciate the greater range of viable options available to the player with the tweaked / fixed classes, earlier exploration, elemental gear, and spell list. It's kind of nifty being able to pick locations and gear to rush down based more on what the party can do and use vs. what level they are, though, I suppose, I kind of did that a bit in the original as well with magic item rushing, but still!
Killer Instinct - I love how accessible the game is to be decent w/ the buttons. The true mastery is the mind games, yomi, reads, etc, which I have a LONG ways to study and master. But the controls are great, music is great, characters are cool, lots of content, etc. It's the perfect replacement for NRS on PC. I was in a bit of a rut trying to find that NRS replacement fighter after it was confirmed Injustice 2 wasn't coming to PC. I tried Tekken, Guilty Gear, UNIEL, Brawlhalla, Rivals of Aether (the latter 2 not really comparable as platform fighting games), all great games. But KI just clicks on all cylinders for me.
Final Fantasy XIV - I have a LOT of issues w/ this game (social features, inventory features), but it's all pretty minor. The story is good, the world is vibrant and immersive, and it's Final Fantasy! :bou:
Remember Me - not too deep into, maybe like an hour. Interesting combat mechanics w/ the combo lab and seems to be an intriguing story.
Silent Hill 3 - Really digging the characters and the music, some top notch stuff going on here and I can see why fans love Heather so much for her spunky personality.
Suikoden II - I appreciate the fact the game kind of jumps into the main mechanics relatively early for the series. The main plot hasn't fully kicked in yet but I'm already scouting new recruits and farming runes from enemies for future customization. I already have enough people to build two completely different teams. Also the story and characters are fantastic and I love Viktor and Flik.
Persona 1 - Just obtained the Ultimate Personas for the party in the SQQ and now just need to grind in the final dungeon to get the party worthy to use them. I'm still having fun experimenting with different Persona set-ups. This is also the first time I've used this party setup and it's been interesting because they are not quite as dominating as the one you can get in the SEBEC arc. It's been an interesting challenge I hope to finish up soon.
Mega Man Zero - Starting to hit that nice mental transcending moment with these games where the difficulty withers away cause I'm falling "into the zone" all of the time. Despite that, outside of leveling up a few more of the Cyber Elves, I plan on sacrificing the lot of them cause I'm not in the mood to deal with the final boss without their upgrades.
After playing Witcher 3 for only a couple hours, its card game already has me hooked. I wish there was a cell phone version.

Combat is an interesting ATB-based tactics system that I'm digging so far, especially since the game expects you to understand more than a simple rock-paper-scissors combat style and grants you additional rewards based on how well you do in story missions, though the rewards so far haven't been anything more than xp and money.
Character customization is easy to understand and offers an appreciable depth, with skills being taught from crystals that offer both their own passive benefits as well as the abilities they are teaching you, so you can juggle around passive abilities you want from your stones and what you want to learn, which gives the game's customization that balance I really like.

I'm totally going through a second time JUST to pick that option and see how much the game changes -- hopefully it will be like Der Langrisser and I'll get an entirely new scenario! :excited:
I've also got a sidekick character who has almost grown into the leader of my party, going from a more timid character to someone who launches rescue missions and I have the option to defer to in conversations now, which is spiffy; it'll be interesting to see where that ends up.
Actually, that pretty much sums up how I feel about the game as a whole -- I'm interested in seeing where everything ends up, which is more than I can say about most games I play.
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter has an incredible atmosphere and I love how all the gameplay elements are there to build up the narrative by making it actually feel tense. There are no inns and the only way to heal are healing items, and you have a very limited inventory. And that's just the tip of the ice berg. The D-counter is a genius device that I really didn't appreciate back in the day but now I really love it. It makes your choice of playstyle really matter and drives the point home just how powerful and how damaging to your own body the dragon powers are.
Actually, I'm currently playing FF V on my PS3. I bought it from the PS store. I'm in World 3 and am currently grinding. I love the job classes and summon creatures. A real gem of a game imo.
Bloody Breath of the Wild. All these months later still playing it, still finding new things, and still having fun. The last week or two I've found myself falling in love with it all over again and I'm still only playing my original file.
I have it running right now as I type this.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
So far I'm really digging the story and characters, special shout out for having some returning characters from Ogre Battle right off the bat as well, though it makes me sad I failed to make Lanselot into a Paladin in my last playthrough.
Speaking of Ogre Battle, I love seeing the classes from that game reworked for this entry. Though some classes like the Valkyrie/Rune Fencer seemed to have been nerfed pretty bad, it's nice that Warriors and Archers got beefed up.
Dear lord the amount of choices in this game is also staggering, and makes it feel like Mass Effect before ME. I'm not sure which route I'll get, but I have no intention of using the Wheel of Time to replay scenarios until a second playthrough.
Currently playing Birth by Sleep on PS4 (part of the 1.5+2.5 collection).
I kind of lost touch with the series after Kingdom Hearts II and so have been going through the PS4 releases of the games. I'm pleasantly surprised with the game, since my understanding is all the spin-offs before BBS (CoM, Coded, and Days) weren't particularly good--and can confirm in the case of CoM when I played and dropped the original GBA game when it released and having played the PS2 remake on this collection. But BBS seems exactly what I'd want from a portable kingdom hearts--essentially, a fast paced, perhaps smaller, version of KH1 and KH2. It helps that only one world is a returning world, so seeing a lot of new worlds is really fun!

I've been playing Final Fantasy XV, the Assassin's Festival was fun, still doesn't make me want to play Assassin's Creed (I prefer Thief), all except the the friggin' Capture the Flag which I'm pretty sure is glitched based on whether you start it before/after the festival story events, and Shady Dealings which is just a useless endeavor.

Wild Arms
I love the little unique things like getting Fast Draw hints and Arms in different places rather than just getting skills in level up or through some AP system. The tools also make puzzle solving and finding treasure fun. There are also some unique items like the Secret Signs and Crest Graphs that you don't see in other RPGs.
Witcher 3
I love the detail given to some of the side quests. They feel like main quests and have some originality to them rather than 'Collect X of Y' or 'kill this monster'. There are the Witcher contracts that are more routine but even those try to have some backstory to each of them (even if they end up usually being 'follow tracks to kill the monster'). I also appreciate the unexpected ways your decisions affect later outcomes. I did not expect some of my choices to do that!
Also, I love Gwent. The NPCs suck so bad at it though. I wish there was a cell phone version.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Holy hell the stuff that goes on in this plot. Makes you realize that FFTactics has no bite to it's writing and Matsuno and his team have just been mellowing out ever since the 16-bit era. So I'm in Chapter 2, and chose the Law path, which is just as MegaTen as that sounds. So high marks there.
I'm also digging the classes of this game, it's been interesting to see the classes from Ogre Battle get translated over into this medium. Granted there are some wonky balancing issues and it's funny to see classes that were kind of ho-hum in the original (Warriors, Archers, and Vartans) get some serious beefing up while classes that were pretty OP in Ogre Battle (Rune Fencers/Valkyrie and Terror Knights) got nerfed. I even recruited my first monster! Just sad it wasn't something more beefy like a Gryphon.
The encounter rate in this game is also pretty low for these types of games, which is kind of nice since battles can take forever, but more importantly, it prevents needless grinding. In fact, considering how the skill system works, this game feels like a nice compromise between FFT and FFTA's systems with the player having more control on how to develop their classes, but skill points are rewarded for completing battles and not what you do in them. This helps add control of how your developing your army while at the same time, preventing you from going too far into grind mode outside of just going into needless battle after another. So basically, I'm comfortable where my party build is, but for once I'm not overleveled to get to that point.
I've only begun to play Bayonetta for the first time and it's fantastically over the top.

Death Road to Canada is chaotic and crazy but I love it. I love its jazzy music and graphic style, and I love how it doesn't take itself seriously. The bonus characters (our boy Cloud is one!) are genius, especially Lank/Lonk/Lunk. Hyaaaaaaaaaagh! smurfing kills me every time god damn it.
Attack on Titan Wings of Freedom makes me feel like a god whenever I smash a titan. It's Dynasty Warriors in a whole new flavour and I'm okay with that.
Attack on titan is a fantastic game. One of those rare few that can make something as typically straightforward as moving an absolute joy on its own.
COD: WW2 - The game included the option of iron sights on the sniper rifle Kar98k. That. Is. It. It's a truly awful game.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together - I take back what I said about Terror Knights being nerfed. Holy hell are they nasty once they are up to par with the rest of your team level and gear. It helps that I switched two of my characters classes turning my Knight into a Terror Knight and my former Terror Knight into a Knight, the male TK is cooler looking as is the female Knight so bonus points there. They have low speed and have to use two-handed weapons which often have poor accuracy but then you gain their special skill that makes their accuracy 100% and makes melee inflict Frighten (lowers all stats) and you've got a mean death machine.
I also ran into a random Female Knight I had to recruit because I noticed her name was Celes. :ffvising:

I mean, i like dragon quest games, so pretty much anything that makes any dragon quest game good applies here. But for 7, I suppose I like the island stories. Rather than having one big overarching story, it's basically the "doomsday event of the week" which is interesting.
I'm playing Warframe. I don't like games at the moment though, so I don't think it counts. I'm just passing time with Warframe.
Suikoden V ~ God, what is not to love? The battle system is fun with SII's core gameplay with the best elements of SIII and IV added in. Love area bosses, which are always a treat. I'm also just collecting so many good characters. Not to mention I got the Beavers on my side, so Naval War battles are hilariously easy. I've been doing a better job of utilizing characters I don't normally use, instead of just using all the game breakers, and it's been a real treat playing with different party configurations.
Pokemon GO ~ Loved the Halloween visuals and I love me some ghost Pokemon. Also pageants are a fun diversion, and I'm not just saying that because my work is conveniently located next to a Poke Stop that specializes in them. :shifty:
Romancing SaGa Re: Universe ~ I am really impressed with the game's narrative. I'm not really big on direct sequels, nor do I love fanfic like plots of characters from different world's meeting up, but it really works here. Helps the game is using the narrative to fill in some of the more vague writing of the franchise like changing the context of Subier and the Narwhal's child from RS2, or finally delving into the lives of the Matriarch and Archfiend from RS3. I still love how that dimensional pull of the cast members work in this game, with characters able to encounter different versions of themselves from their own timeline, and even some alternate timelines. Creates some interesting drama.
As as a sports guy i am playing nba 2k19 for xbox one. It's fantastic as most are these days but it's just fun to play when not playing an rpg.
Playing back through Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2.
The Devil Survivor games I think are some of the most underappreciated of the franchise, and frankly some of the best SRPG's out there.
Xenosaga Episode 1 - Honestly, I feel it is the most solid entry in the franchise. It may be a slow burn of a story, but for a good sci-fi plot, you need that. The battle system is still my favorite and feels like a nice evolution of Gears combat. Love the event slot mechanic. Love the mini-games once I finally gave them a chance. Best in the series despite the few nagging issues.
Tactics Ogre Reborn - Probably my favorite version. Gets rid of all the busy work from the PSP version while still finding a way to give the game a level of depth that feels in line with the original. Translation is great, VA work is serviceable, and it still has all the good elements from the PSP version.
Trials in the Sky: Second Chapter - Feels like a cup of warm soup. It's a very classic jrpg, that picks up right where the first one left off. That might not be for everyone, but I'm having a great time.
So I bought Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Both are fantastic....but then I bought Metaphor. The game grabbed me so hard that I put those on hold until I clear Metaphor. In in the endgame portion of it now, but holy hell is that game gold.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It is good.
The SH2 remake was great. Guess I'm not playing it now, cause I finished it, but it's the only thing I've had time to play. :cry:
So let me begin with a few; NBA 2k19, one of the best sports game of all time; smooth fluid and fun. Ghostbusters the Video game----basically the 3rd film in a video game format. Moments that will live forever. Nascar Heat 4, brilliant racing game that includes a fun soundtrack to go with it and also; WWE 2k, fun experiences all around
Life is Strange 2.
Just made it to Episode 3. Digging it a lot so far. Love the whole fugitive/cross country vibe and the wilderness setting is so dang pretty to look at! It's a different beast from the first game (which I absolutely adored, may I add) and it's companion game, "Before the Storm", but it still has that core heart and subsequent heartbreak ( :cry: ) that's become so known in the Life is Strange series. I don't think my heart is ready for what's going to happen in the later game... :ohdear:
Finally trying to get round to finishing Tales of Symphonia- I love the cast in this not a single member I dislike so far. Zelos maybe the weakest.

It tried to do some interesting things with semi-stealth segments but I feel it was a bit too repetitive and didn't really fit with the tone of what happened storywise prior to that segment. So I can understand why they decided to cut it. I haven't played Aftermath (and Judgment in general), but planning to catch up later this year.
