I'm sorry, but the name is just stupid.
I know it's being childish, but let's be honest who didn't take one look at the name and think wee! And to think someone got paid to come up with a name, which sounds like a bodily function!
I'd love to have been at that board meeting.
Nintendo Big Wig : What are we going to call the Revolution then?
Marketing Big Wig : I know how about wee?
Nintendo Big Wig : Hmmmmm! I'm not sure sounds abit "dodgy".
Marketing Big Wig : Ok replace the E's with I's?
Nintendo Big Wig : My god! Thats genius!
Most people : WTF!? :Oo:
what a silly name. :p
It dosent matter how clever the name is, its stupid. Actually, it isnt such a clever name anyways. The idea of saying Wii endlessly is so stupid. Out of every name they could of thought of, they had to pick one that sounds the stupidest for a console. I hope they do the same as Sony did with the controller, when the complaints are shown, they will change it for the better.
my favorite thing when there is new info like this, is finding all the people who aren't open to change. IF you really THINK about the name, as more than just a name, it truly is perfect. The i is just like the controller. And as they said, ii lookes like two people coming together to play.
Well deal with it people because Wii..... the way of the future man.
Wii=future
I still think Wii-mote is genius... I should patent it or something haha.
THE JACKEL
Wii-diculous ... :choc2:
Yeah, it's a retarded name, but I'd still buy it. :cat:
Gonads and strife, gonads and strife
So I saw the new Nintendo Revolution's name and I was like: Wii~!!!!!!!

I feel bad for people selling the Wee. I'm almost tempted to get a job at a video game store, just so I can ask people if they wanna buy Wee. I'm looking forward to playing the Wee, though.
I refuse to call it the Wii. It is, and forever shall be, the Wee.
Wii looks so much better than Wee. Just look at it
Wii > Wee
The i's must represent the controllers.
I thought the i's represent people, from this: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/index.html :p
Nintendo was admitted earlier today into the Kyoto University Hospital, under constant suicide watch, having been declared "Extremely high risk" by psychiatric staff. Friends and associates say that Nintendo has been increasingly erratic over the past ten years - for instance in using cartridges instead of discs in the N64, and the... interesting Revolution controller - but that this latest symptom had crossed the line from eccentricity into madness.
A colleague of Nintendo's, Sony, released the following statement earlier today;
"I have been a long-time colleague, some-time rival of Nintendo's, but to date I cannot think of a single example within our field of such an unusual incident. Whilst it is true that crushing Nintendo under my boot is always a pleasant thought, I have no desire to see this. I would not even want to see this done to Microsoft, gaijin rats though they may be, and so it was with a heavy heart that I contacted the psychiatric ward and requested their intervention.
We all pray for Nintendo's speedy and complete recovery, and hope that it can return to a more sensible method of marketing soon. There are many people who might feel it a cowardly way out, but I ask them to bear in mind how difficult things have been recently for Nintendo, and that even the strongest will has a breaking point. Please be kind in your thoughts of Nintendo."
Doctors at Kyoto University Hospital say they don't know when Nintendo will be released, and reminded us that while they understood the high-profile nature of the matter, they expected us not to probe too deeply into the matter. Still, this reporter feels that it is plain for anyone on Earth to see the reasons this unfortunate measure had to be taken, and that there is little left to hide.

This morning, when I saw the press release... I was shocked by the title, and I thought it was fake....actually, I had the same feeling/thoughts i had the moment they released info on the Revolution controller for the first time.
But just like the controller, its actually a good idea. Its just as risky as the controller was, and has a similar message.
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/703/703593p1.html
As you can see, Nintendo does intend to keep the name, cause they know people will get used to it. And at least for me, its starting to grow on me.
Its pretty clever releasing this info now, so we have time to get used to Wii, before E3.
'Wii' will understand Nintendo soon enough! I'm sure more will become clear at E3!
I always thought they were a joke, now they have proved it
'I'm going to play with my Wii, I'll be back soon.'
I heard about "Wee"... Errr sory!! I mean "Wii" on the radio this morning.
It's sounds like a good console but why call it Wii? The nintendo are just Asking to have the piss taken out of them there ("Piss" being the oprative word actually!)
That means I'll get to play with my Super Smash Brothers Wii.
Come to think of it, WTF would be a good name change now
Nintendo + Phallic Symbolism = One Freakin' Amazing Console.
On a related side-note, Nintendo have revealed that 'Koch Media' will be their official European distributor. And no, I'm not joking. *snigger*
Funny stuff.
for some reason i see Nintendo going out of business within the next 5 years

Why?
Cause they make more profit than Sony and MS...
They've been doing what they do best, for over 20 years, twice the time of Sony or MS...
They make good quality hardware and software, thats fun/new/ and apeals to many...
and probably most importantly, they have a huge fanbase of extreamly loyal fans, that would take a bullet for Shigeru Miyamoto, and allow Mario to kill their family in exchange to live in the mushroom kindom. XD ok well not quite, but their fanbase is BIG, and in general, more loyal than MS's and Sony's combined.
I'd almost say, that even if no one but the loyal Nintendo fans bought the Wii, it would still sell enough to keep Nintendo going! ^_~
Besides, I HIGHLY doubt the name will effect sales AT ALL. No its not the best name, and I think NOJ should have put more thought into how the rest of the world would preceive the name... but Wii is what it is now, so deal with it. The name doesn't effect ANYTHING, its still the same great console!
Agreed.
In sega's case it took a few consoles that didn't do so well before sega opted out of the console-making market. In Nintendo's case, their last few consoles especially have done quite well. They are not going to go away anytime soon.

What's with the crappy gay name?
Not really, Nintendo fan base is definately smaller than the MS's and Sony's fanbase. Its safe to say that Nintendo havent made a decent console since the SNES, the N64 failed due to Cartridges, and the Gamecube failed due to people switching to other consoles after the N64. Nintendo will never become more popular than Sony, never. The GC is the weakest console in America and Australia, and the second best in Japan. More people want Xbox's or Playstations. Nintendo have been struggling in the market more than the others. Sony are keeping it safe as they know they will win. If Nintendo was a firm competitors, they wouldnt be coming up with these odd ideas.Quote:

I never said they werent, but those creations havent saved Nintendo. Sony havent pulled anything absolutely amazing out of the bag, but still whoop Nintendo every day. Why?, because Sony know what Consumers want. Nintendo dont, and thus, they fail, at consoles, at life.
Don't listen to him, he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Nintendo is all about games, Sony has more than just games, so comparing the two company isn't going to help you.
No, it's because Nintendo stood with cartridges, instead of using CDs.Quote:

PS: this is all a plan by Nintendo, they've seen their mistakes with the Gamecube, back then they didn't have a strategy. Now they have a plan, and it has already begun with the DS. EVERY game they release are number one hits:
Mario Kart DS
Anima Crossing: Wild World
Metroid Prime: Hunters
NEXT: New Super Mario, Zelda, Mario 128, it'll continue 'till they're number one again. Hell the reason Nintendo hasn't been on top is because third party companies have stayed away from Nintendo's consoles, but now that Nintendo's got the MOST innovative console of the 3 they'll want to develop for Nintendo. You'll see, Nintendo's not holding back anymore.
Nintendo's software will never rival Sonys. Never.
People are already saying the Controller will create a new direction in gaming, this could be true, but it dosent mean the controller will make gaming any more fun than it is now. While some are turned on by the controller, just as many are turned off. Some dont like the idea of being on your feet, jumping all over the place while playing a game. And if most of the games for the Wii will use the controllers special functions, then that will lose alot of casual gamers who like to traditionally lay back and play.
Well, Nintendo is actually making wise decisions now by staying in a specific market niche. Instead of developing amazingly powerful impressive hardware, they are building efficient and cost-effective systems that cater to specific parts of the gaming market.
I personally think that Nintendo would die if they went directly head to head in the overall gaming market with Sony and Microsoft. It's their specialization that is keeping them strong and afloat.
In the mean time, while Sony and MS throw large amounts of money into their consoles, Nintendo sits back and conserves its resources while picking up many of the specialty areas of the gaming market. It's a wise choice, if you ask me and one that will keep them in business.
Well, it isnt working, Nintendo is losing fanbase instead of gaining it.
How the frick do you know? They haven't even sold anything yet. Mainstream gaming people don't check websites months in advance of a console release, they have absolutly no idea anout the revolution/wii or the new controlers.
How do I know? Cause this arguement has happened before in the past with the PS2 and Gamecube, and the outcome gives me the impression that its going to happen again. And at least the last Nintendo console didnt have such a stupid name.
You don't need to be on your feet to use the controller, nor do you have to jump or wave your arms around. The sensitivity has been reported as being perfectly balanced such that you can cover the whole length of the screen with a minor movement of your hand.Quote:

Wireless controllers have been around for ages. I remember using one for the PS1.
The Gameboy wasn't the first handheld, or even the first handheld to use cartridges.
The joystick (I assume you meant analog stick) was done by Sega on the MegaDrive first (even if it is fairly rare and exclusive to Japan)
And stylus (Styli? What's the plural for that?) have been in use for years. I've even used my tablet to play games on my PC (not to much success however).
Nintendo didn't invent any of these but as mentioned before, they were the first to make them standard in their consoles.
That doesn't make Nintendo innovative. That's just marketing.
That's a good point, however Sony still had an amazing amount of market pentration very quickly. The N64 (The decision to use cartidges in particular.) played a very large role in that.Quote:

Rather than continueing this 'oh so fun to read' arguement... of which I see major fact errors on both sides... -_-; I'm just going to say, Nintendo is still here today, after all this time, they know what they are doing, and they're still going strong.
On the topic of the name, the longer I've known about it, the more it seems to work for me... no, I'm not really going to say I like it... but I will say its going to work just fine for the console's name.
So anyway, Anyone heard about this?

Friday last week, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime made a special guest appearence in New York's Nintendo World store.
Answering countless questions in the store about the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii, nothing new was confirmed by Reggie. However, when asked about how a racing game would work with the Wii Controller, Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that Nintendo are currently in development of a racing game for the Wii, and they will be showing it off at E3.
"We're going to show off a racing game at E3 where you use the core controller in a very different way, that will answer all the questions about how you'll play a racing game." Reggie revealed to the audience.
So what kind of racer is in store for the Wii? A Mario Kart installment? Perhaps F-Zero? Or Excitebike? Maybe something completely new? Rest assured that Nintendo will reveal all details at the E3 expo.
Stay tuned to DSRevolution.com for more on this racer and all the coverage on the Nintendo news.

Anywho, Nintendo was the first company to mass produce it's own first party wireless controller, rather than some crappy MadCatz thing that'll break as soon as you push more than three buttons at once.
The analog stick was integral to the Nintendo 64's controller, whereas for other controllers previous, it was an alternative to a d-pad.
Vibrating controllers were another first hand idea from Nintendo, even though the Rumble Pak was kinda clunky.
The stylus working its way into the control scheme of a d-pad, four buttons, and shoulder buttons (another Nintendo first), was quite a unique and successful idea.
The way I look at it, Nintendo's got the market in the palm of their hands, Microsoft is keeping it's fanbase foaming at the mouth with the prospect of another Halo game, and Sony just seems like the kids who got stoned and forgot their research papers were due the next day, and seem unsure of whether or not they're going to pass and succeed, or go to summer school, and figure out what to do.
It's not blatant fanboyism, because I like the XB360 controller a lot, and the way they run their online service, and Sony's going to have a lot of the games I'll want to play. It just seems like Nintendo's going to come out swinging, and set the bar yet again.
That's what I was trying to explain earlier.Quote:

Not that it really matters, they clearly stated that they want to move away from the graphic centric side of gaming. The graphics are obviously intended to come second after gameplay.

Today, in the Wii section of Nintendo's booth, a new, unannounced peripheral was shown off in a display case. Dubbed "The Zapper," the new addition to the Wii family is a casing that houses the Wii-mote and the analog joystick in a configuration that looks like a gun.
The purpose seems simple--instead of holding both attachments in one hand (the analog joystick controls movement and the Wii-mote controls aim), one hand can control both.
Old school gamers will recognize the Zapper name. In 1985, the Nintendo Entertainment System was sold with a light gun named the Zapper, which was used to shoot hapless ducks and snickering dogs in Duck Hunt.

Actually ^_^ look a little closer at the pic... see that hole in the side of the gun? thats got the trigger in it! Its setup that way, so you can use one hand, and have your thumb on the joystick while your finger is near the trigger. I'm sure it will feel better than it looks though. In an odd marketing move, Microsoft suggests people get their 360 as well as a Wii, rather than spending $600 on just 1 consoles (PS3).
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707831p1.html
XD hey, at least they are being nice about it for now... guess they want to help Nintendo to get bigger, to get rid of Sony? XD
BTW, anyone else catch the comment in the Nintendo press conference, "Ask anyone if they've seen a movie, or listened to music, and you'll never find someone that hasn't done those things... but ask anyone if they've ever played video games, and chances are you'll find a lot that say no. Nintendo hopes to change this with Wii!"
I sure hope that changes soon! Interactive entertainment deserves just as much mindset for people as movies and music do! But as Nintendo has talked about, its the barriers like the controller, and the difficulty that needs to be changed. Nintendo's Wiimote does offer a simpler way to play, while still giving a lot of advantages to the 'hardcore' group.
Well if Nintendo wants to gain more players, their 'inclusion' plan will do the trick, long as they make the right moves (as they seem to be doin).
.....the controllers not wireles?? ;_;
any idea when the wii b released?
o.O... who said the controller wasn't wireless? *missed that O_o*
Of course its wireless!
If they are basing that on the fact that they had wires at E3... then hah... that was just a security feature, And also so they didn't have to recharge the controllers durring the middle of the day... or something like that.
Don't worry, Nintendo's controllers are confirmed wireless. (except for the wire between the Wiimote and the nunchaku.:p)
Also, if they were referring to the vconsole controller, thats just wired to the Wiimote as well, nothing else.
Technically, the release date hasn't been announced yet. Nintendo could launch in October, in my opinion, since they've done that in the past.
But they could also be waiting for Sony's release date, to be 'set in stone', so they can plan their release date around Sony's. lol
k awesome..... and all the controllers will b bundled in one box right? would b annoying if it was sold seperatly
I'd imagine that at least the nunchaku attachment will be bundled, since it's so heavily integrated in a lot of games.
There's been no official announcements, however. None that I've heard, at least - someone else can confirm if they'd like.
I'm pretty sure that they've said, yes the nunchaku would be included with the system in box...
But in the most recent interview with Perrin Kaplan, she said that Nintendo is still unsure what exactly they will give us right out of the box.

Will this system finally be capable of playing DVDs?
Yes, but not exactly out of the box... its likely you'll have to buy a cheap usb dongle to plug into the back of the Wii... or just download a program off Nintendo's network service... or something.Quote:

Yes I have the book, and it's quite good and informative actually.

Well, sounds great to me, especially if what David says is true for the 250 package...Quote:
Nintendo says Wii's price "will not exceed $250". The company plans to ship six million systems between fall and March 2007, along with seventeen million games.
Nintendo News: Nintendo Announces Wii Information, Worldwide Shipments
REDMOND, Wash., May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Following its overwhelming debut at E3 2006, Nintendo today announced the current fiscal year unit shipment forecast for its new home game system, Wii(TM). Nintendo also confirmed that the price of the Wii system, which incorporates unique freehand control, will not exceed $250 in America, or 25,000 yen in Japan. The company plans to ship 6 million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2007.
The projections are part of a full-year financial forecast that sees growth of 18 percent in sales globally, based on anticipated continuing strong demand for the Nintendo DS(TM) portable game system, as well as a successful launch for Wii.
The company also said it expects to sell 17 million Wii games in the period. Exact launch dates, identification of the launch library of titles and details on the unique Virtual Console aspect of Wii will be announced soon.
Daniel says: My guess is that Japan will get the system for 25,000 yen and the US will get it for $199.
David says: I believe that they are considering a package with two controllers and a pack-in game like Wii Sports. That would cost $249.99. The intention would be to make things simpler for non-gamers who would be wary of adding additional games and controllers. The alternative is to stick with a traditional bare-bones system with just one controller and no game for $199.99. I'm fairly certain they don't want two retail packages though, so they will have to choose one or the other.

$249 for a Wii, two controllers, and Wii Sports? Sounds like a very good deal to me.
Correction. It's an awesome deal:)Quote:

Of course, $250 is a good price to me. :rolleyes2 But I hope I get to actually use the controller before I buy it, just in case it actually stinks. :O
I was just thinking, it'll be interesting to watch people play the Wii at those demo stands in Target or wherever. But yeah, hopefully there will be ample opportunities to try out the controller, and if not, well, that's where friends who will buy it "no questions asked" come into play. :pQuote:

I wonder though... will the Wii offer a really exclusive experience? If developers just use the controller in ways that can be done already with normal controllers (Such as Excite Truck, using the remote as a Steering Wheel), the Wii might not have as much magic as we'd hoped. Of course, the controller itself really does offer a new experience. True, you could use an analog stick for excite truck, but a steering wheel really does offer a different experience. Or at least, I'd imagine it would.
I hope Target has demos. >_>
Found some interesting... leaks/rumors. Now remember they are just rumors at the moment.

Oh lordy, the PS3 is coming out last, not good....
There are a bunch of rumors on the Wii Release date. The biggest one right now being October 2nd, due to Nintendo saying that the release date might be encoded into their announcement of games coming out for their systems. Here's an article about it:
http://www.wii-play.com/nintendo_wii...p?news_item=52
Quote:
Nintendo updated their release list for the fourth quarter of this year. The list is ruled by DS games with only 1 GBA game and 1 GC game being released this year.
Fourth Quarter Release List:
Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games (DS)
Oct. 16: Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends (DS)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsign (DS)
Oct. 30: Pokémon Ranger (DS)
Oct. 30: Children of Mana (DS)
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents (DS)
Nov. 6: Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA)
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Island 2 (DS)
Dec. 4: Custom Robo Arena (DS)
Dec. 4: Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS)
Note: The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC) Will Be Released On The Same Date As The Wii In The Fourth Quarter Of This Year.
Nintendo did include this line at the end of their announcement:
"Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item."
Gaming Target Writes:
"The fourth quarter begins on October 1. Now look at the list. At least one game is released every Monday in the fourth quarter except for the following dates: October 2, November 20 and November 27.
November 27 is after Black Frida, so it's out of the possibilities. November 20 is after the launch of the PS3, so that's out, too. That leaves us with October 2. "
So Will The Wii Be Released On October 2nd? The release date seems to be too early according to some people, but since the wii is already in production, it is possible that Nintendo plans to get a headstart on the PS3.
We Can Hope To Find Out Soon...
Most of those 2amupdate rumors are hard to believe.
Anyone know of a set us release date on the wii?
Fourth quarter 2006 is about the best anyone can say right now. (unless I'm completely in the dark on this one)
Nintendo is expected to announce the release date during this year's Tokyo Game Show, which is being held on September 22 through the twenty-fourth.
A few weeks ago on the 1up Yours podcast, Shane Bettenhausen of EGM speculated that Nintendo would announce and soft launch (meaning two or three first party games) the Wii in Japan the week of TGS. Imagine that.
Keep an eye out for news from the Liepzig conference next week (Aug 23rd) as well. Nintendo will be there and making a speech entitled "Wii prove our promise". Apparently they won't be at TGS. Which sucks for me, cuz I was looking forward to seeing it happen while I'm there.
Also, more rumours on possible functionality in the Wii (though this one is somewhat substantiated)
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/15/wi...-to-text-chat/
Nintendo has a patent for Voice-To-Text technology to be used for video games. Full details can be found at the patent site. Nintendo hasn't announced where this will be used, but it's still possible.
Waiting for the 23rd is killin me with anticipation... only 24 hours left!! XD
I really hope hey announce something worthwhile... not only good for them, but also good for the Leipzig Games Convention, might put them more on the map. Hey we need all the GCs we can get now that E3 is going to be shrunk...
I just hope for anything more than "Blue Ocean" strategy descussions... thats getting old, and I want new information!
I want a release date/price... thats all... Here's to hoping! *hyper all day till tomorrow... and probably let down... =/*
Heh, I'm also looking forward to any tidbits of info surrounding Twilight Princess... I can't wait to play with that new controller, especially if we can swing it like the Master Sword! Hope its fun anyway, and not tiring... lol
Meh... turns out there wasn't much that was announced at the Liepzig Games Conference.
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153065
They announced Mario Strikers Charged and Battallion Wars 2 (BWii?) for the Wii. Perhaps more will be known as the convention goes on, but the speech is done.
Battalion Wars 2 Hands-On report from 1up.com

It's sounding pretty good. They mention that the Jumping (flick the nunchuk up) didn't seem so hot, but I don't recall many areas in the previous game where you needed to jump anyway. Tactical Unit control seems "fantastic", and there is online multiplayer.
BWii is now added to my 'Wii Get' list.
*unsticks*
Well, let's take it from my perspective, being a married man with a wife and kid to take care which results in limited finances. PS3=$600. That's $600 before taxes too, and no game. The Wii with 2 controllers and possiby a game=$250. And I am part of a LOT of gamers in the same boat.
It's not a matter of which is best but what I am able to get with my money.
Why was the glue removed from the thread? o_o
Equal topic opportunity. :D
tht xbox live thing needs to be unsticked
same reason why this was unsticked
It's a different kind of topic. This topic (and the PS3 topic) was originally made to announce the new system, and is over a year old.
The Xbox Live Gamertag topic is just like the Nintendo Wifi Friend Code topic: Put your online ID in there and people from EoFF will add you. That's a lot more sticky-worthy than this is.
what about the chess tournament :p
I was meant to be getting one with my ex and spend Christmas in our apartment playing it. But I wont be able to afford one on my own, but his new flat mate will most probably chip in and help my ex get one for them both to play on.
Not important enough to have its own topic, cuz it's 99% fake. Still fun to think about, and see if any of this is actually true once the console launches.

Btw, I stuck the Live Gamertag thread since having it on top will give people an easy way of finding out other people's gamertags. The same goes for the DS friend's code and I'll make sure to stick whatever Sony plans on doing for gamertags on their network. This thread is merely discussion about an upcoming console. It has no real point in being stickied.
Apple Partnership? Reminds me of the fake commercial AOTS made, and before showing it they said that Nintendo teamed up with Apple. :shifty:
