Close enough, your turn chzn8r
I just wanted to let you guys know, because of this thread, I been on a Metroid frenzy. I beat Super Metroid twice today (once on PSP emulator and the other on the actual cart). I'm in the middle of a game in Prime and Zero Mission, and I'll probably play through Fusion again for the hell of it. THANKS A LOT!
I wonder if you're being sarcastic, it's hard to tell. Anyway, if nobody will ask a question then I shall. Q: In Super Metroid, how many super missle tanks do you acquire in Norfair?
2?
Nope
I could just keep guessing until I get it right. It is a number between 0 and 10.
I know there are 3 for sure in the brinstar
1 in the wrecked ship
1 in the crateria
1 in the Meridia
I know I am missing some from those areas so that really levels it down to 0-4
So I guess 3 now. It is only a matter of time :D
I am serious. The "thanks a lot" part was be faking that I was mad about it, though.Quote:

Like I said. Those are the ones I know of and I don't remember where they all are as I don't play metroid games to collect every item. I don't find that fun.
Correct, your turn
How many Metroid games has Ridly appeared in and name them.
5: Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion.
Close but no. 1 too many.
This is a trick question by the way.
The only ways I can think of it being a trick question is you may not count "Super Metroid" because it doesn't start with "Metroid" or "Metroid Zero Mission" because it's just a remake. Or it could be that there is nothing in Metroid called "Ridly" but there's something called "Ridley." Other than that, I'm stumped.
I will wait to see if Kawaii figures out my ruse. I just misspelled Ridley btw because I suck.
Ridley appears in Metroid, Super Metroid, Zero Mission, and Prime, but the Ridley in Fusion I believe is like an X-parasite mimic and not really him. So I think it's four.
Whoa, good call.

Go!
Ridley is still in Fusion in the form of the frozen corpse from which the X parasite gets his DNA data junk.
Corpse-Shmorpse.
What I don't get is Ridley and the timeline and stuff.Quote:

Samus BRUTALLY SLAUGHTERS META-RIDLEY.
Ridley is reborn as just plain Ridley in Super Metroid.
Samus UTTERLY DEVASTATES RIDLEY.
Somehow Ridley's intact, frozen corpse ends up on BSL and is consumed by the X.
Right, so, Ridley gets blown up and remade three times, so there's gotta be like, a few Ridleys out there or something, or the Space Pirates perfectly clone him every time.
Mecha/Metal/Robot Ridley wasn't Ridley reborn; it was just a robot that was made to look like Ridley. I guess he's just that vain. So, it's more like this. It's all pretty clear-cut except the matter of Ridley's corpse being on the spacestation. I can think of a couple explanations for this.
- Metroid (Zero Mission): Samus kills Ridley.
- Metroid Prime: Ridley is revived with a bunch of "metagenetic" body armor and missiles and stuff. Code Name wa Meta-Ridley. Samus almost kills him, and then some Chozo lasers knock him off a cliff, and of course we don't see the impact. It's safe enough to assume he didn't die here, and the Pirates just picked him up.
- Super Metroid: Ridley is still kicking around, although minus the metagenetic stuff. Samus kills him again and we clearly see him fall to pieces. Shortly afterwards, the entire planet explodes.
- Metroid Fusion: Ridley's body appears intact--albeit frozen--aboard the Bio Space Labs spacestation. Eventually, an X parasite infests it, copies Ridley's DNA data junk, and takes off, at which point the poor corpse falls to pieces...again.
- Considering there are also X mimicking Space Pirates aboard the station, the Galatic Federation may have been carrying on some underhanded deals that netted them the bodies/genetic material of Ridley and some Pirates. The Federation and the Pirates have a shared interest in Metroid breeding, after all.
- As a bounty hunter, Samus may have saved body parts from the Pirates she killed as proof of her accomplishments to show her commissioners. (The old Itoh comic shows her doing this with Pirate claws.) Then the Federation used those parts to rebuild Ridley's body, and then the X got into it and the Pirate material, etc.
I read the space pirate log an it seems they cloned ridley and added metal to him. At least that is how I see it.
"The reconstruction of geoform 187, code-named Ridley, was recently completed.
After his defeat on Zebes, Command ordered a number of metagenenic improvements
for him. Though aggressive, we were able to implement these changes in a cycle.
The metamorphosis was painful, but quite successful in the end. Early tests
indicate a drastic increase in strength, mobility, and offensive capability.
Cybernetic modules and armour plating have been added as well. We believe our
creature, now called Meta Ridley, will become the mainstay of our security
force, a job he will certainly relish."
That's what I said, right?Quote:

Meta-Ridley and the Ridley robot at the end of Zero Mission aren't the same thing.
Sorry. I have not played zero that much >_<
The difference between Mecha Ridley and the rest of the Ridleys is not that it's robotic and the others aren't! Ha! Trick question! It's really that Mecha Ridley is the most underwhelming end boss in the history of video games.
So, um, is it Kawaii's turn?
Get 100% in Zero Mission, and Mecha's difficulty sky-rockets.Quote:

Err, I think the Chozo call her the Chosen One, or something like that, and the Space Pirates call her the Hunter.
You know what happens when you assume, right?Quote:
It's Snap Jumper's turn, but I don't think the jerk is ever coming back, so.
Anyway, Lindy only had it half right. Didn't get the Chozo one.
Is this a Metroid Prime reference?
Because, I know in the Cipher Chozo Lore, they refer to the Entrusted One in a prophecy, which is Samus.
Oh, and there's also Shining One in the lore of the same name.
Maybe the logs in the PAL version differ in this, but certainly in the North American version, there's no instance of the Chozo referring to her as the Chosen/Entrusted/Shining One. But since you're so sure about it, I'll give it to you.
The term I was looking for was Newborn, Hatchling, or Defender.
The PAL version has added logs, and the story changed around in order to fix a few continuity errors, yet in the same sense makes it worse.
In NTSC, the pirates had capture Metroid Prime and the whole reason she had the varying beams was because she'd copied them from the Space Pirates.
But, in the PAL version, the pirates detected Prime in the Impact Crater, but never broke through the barrier, so how did she get the beams?
I've heard the Hatchling term before though, where was it from?
Oh yes, question.
In Metroid Fusion, what percentage of battle readiness does Adam say Samus will be with Missile data?
EDIT : Oops, sorry, it's the Entrusted One Chozo Lore, not Cipher, here's a transcription of it :
So many creatures suffer beneath the blight upon the land, and we Chozo are no exception. But for all of our pain, we can at least believe in the promise of the future; unlike the apparitions that have begun to appear, entities feel neither hope nor solace.
We call these doomed souls The Turned - taking ghostly Chozo forms, they know no reason beyond the instinctive urge to protect our lands. They will likely exist in limbo forever. We have come to believe that a time may never come when we can once again open the door and banish the darkness we've contained. Even so, our vigilance will forever remain.
We believe that on some far-off day, a savior will come and continue what we have begun. For that savior, we will leave our ancient weapons and armour - the soul who can gather them will be the Entrusted One, the only one that can reverse the evil that grows here.
Here's Shining One :
The power of our temple has been enough to halt the spread of the poison on Tallon IV, but whether the evil can ever be truely destroyed is not for our eyes to see. The future is cloudy to us, a world of veils where dark apparitions flit in the shadows. Within this strange world, one image stands out in the mist, flickering in through the landscape, wraithlike. It is a human, a lone figure shining in the toxic shadows. We Chozo do not know what it is, but our hearts swell with hope at the promise of th glowing light. We will place our faith in our shrine; we will be there when the light shines upon our land.
I see. The Entrusted One lore simply doesn't exist in the NTSC version, although it resembles the Turned lore. And "a lone figure shining" does not count as Shining One. >=O
They call her Hatchling in the Hatchling's Shell, Hatchling, and Newborn lore; Newborn in the Binding, Worm, Hatchling's Shell, Hope, and Newborn lore; and Defender in the Binding and Worm lore.
A: 10%, I think.
Ah, I was just remembering the lores that stood out most, and I figured Shining One would count by the fact that it was the name of the lore, but semantics I suppose.
Talking of Hatchling, Hatchling's Shell, Hope and Binding lores, they don't exist in the EU version, Worm makes no mention of a Newborn or Defender, and Newborn lore is only a clue for the artifact.
So, basically, I had no chance of getting the answer you wanted, as the logs you were citing don't exist or are different in the PAL version.
Also, a few lores and Space Pirate logs are also different from the NTSC version, I went and compared them with the NTSC and EU Log Book FAQs on GameFAQs, some of the differences are quite shocking.
And no, it's not 10%.
That's right. She starts out at 10%, and then the Missiles are supposed to bring her up to 20%.
I always thought the percentage thing was kind of goofy, really. My first time playing, I was afraid Adam was going to keep it up throughout the game.
Yeah, well 20% was what I was looking for anyway, but you said that, guess I should have been clearer.
It totally doesn't fit with the items you collect though, but I found it amusing and mildly memorable.
Q: What is "Varia" an adorable mistranslation of?
Barrier, baby.
Varia is just so much more aesthetic.
S'right.
In MP2:E, what effects does each beam have on a safe zone, and a safe crystal?
Don't know, never played it.
You're missing out baby, MP2:E is probably my favourite, I just love the style.
Yeah, it looks great, I've only played the first half hour of Prime1 and I really like the gameplay.
Dark turned off the safe zones and balls while the light beam enhanced it so that it was strong and enemies would die instantly if they touched it. Normal beam just turned on the safe balls. I am guessing the light/dark gun had the same effect as the light beam.
The difference is that the Light Beam makes the safe zones harmful to the Ing, but they're smart enough not to step inside their boundaries once they're activated, so you have to spring them on them. Meanwhile, the Annihilator Beam not only super-charges the safe zones but also makes them irresistable. Watching Ing charge directly into a super-charged safe zone and burn alive is one of my greater pleasures in playing MP2.
Nothing better than watching a Hunter Ing float hypnotically into a super-charged safe zone and explode in a cloud of dust.
I'll give it to the latter of you two, since the most enjoyable part was missed by Eddy boy.
All that sounds complicated.
Not really.
Dark Beam + Safe Crystal = Pif, Safe Zone dies.
Light Beam + Safe Crystal = Womph, Safe Zone is powered up and all Ing who touch it go PUFFT into dark dust.
Annihilator Beam + Safe Crystal = Bamph, Safe Zone is super-charged and draws in nearby Ing who also just go PUFFT when they hit it.
I didn't know what the last beam did as I stopped using those by that point in the game.
I guess not...Quote:

Nah, they work in similar ways.
The Dark Beam is akin to the Ice Beam, it freezes 'troids in the same way, it's relatively slow firing.
The Light Beam is akin to the Plasma Beam, fast firing and powerful, sets creatures on fire, but has a relatively short range.
The Annihilator Beam is akin to the Wave Beam, but not by much, it homes in, does insane damage and is generally booty kicking.
These are limited in usage by an ammo system, but it's not that bad, you just have to conserve your ammo like you would with missiles, which really isn't that much at all.
oh, ok
The charge combos are totally different though.
The Dark Beam creates a slow moving black hole that sucks in all around it.
The Light Beam creates a slow moving massive energy ball of light which causes huge damage to anything it hits, especially Dark enemies.
The Annihilator Beam causes a massive Sonic Boom which instantly hits and massively damages anything it targets.
Just the charge combos take both missiles AND ammo, which can be a bit of a killer, especially with the Annihilator.
Wow, that's really cool. Except that it costs ammo.
A lot of people were afraid of the ammo system, but it's really not a problem, only in extended boss battles can you even get close to running out, and even then it's only if you go very trigger happy and waste a lot.
You get 250 ammo total (after expansions), each shot takes 1 of a type, and charge shots take 10, as long as you don't spam fire you'll be fine.
Now I really want a gamecube, and the Prime games
Q: Out of Zebes, SR388, and Tallon IV, which two planets are in the same solar system?
I would go with Zebes and SR388 but I am probably wrong.
It's not Zebes and SR388.
Zebes and Tallon IV?
Right. Go ahead.
Q: In Metroid Zero Mission, there is a time-attack mode. After completing the time-attack mode you recieve a code. What is the purpose of this code?
You can unlock the time attack mode without using GS codes now?
I'd assume it'd be to enter on some kind of official website to set your game time and stats up against other players in some kind of ranking.
Or maybe I've just been playing too much Ikaruga lately.
Either that, or it has no use at all because nothing has been implemented yet.
Its only purpose was for an official contest that, unless I missed something, was only held in Japan. Worse yet, the best MZM speed-runners determined that the winners of the contest must have cheated to get the times they did. Cryin' shame.Quote:

Yep, your turn Kawaii. The prize was a Metroid themed GBASP, I think.
Q: In Metroid Fusion, there is a power bomb tank that, with some tricky maneuvering, can be acquired well before the game actually wants you to have power bombs. (However, since the programmers were such jerks about "no sequence-breaking ever grrr," you can't actually use the bombs until you get the main power bomb "data download" as the plot dictates.) In what area is this tank located?
*please be right*
Norfair
Except Norfair isn't in Metroid Fusion.
Hmm.
Is it in TRO? The large room with a power bomb near the top, roughly in the center of the map. I think you can shinespark up to there, though I'm not sure.
No, it's not TRO...or Norfair.
The thing about Power Bombs is that they made it so that you need Power Bombs to get to them, either by setting the appropriate blocks, or those large X-Barriers.
You would have thought that would make things easier, since it'd have to be Expansions out in the relative open, but bugger me it doesn't.
...Oh!
Is it in SRX? The room near where you face the Charge Beam Core-X, you can Speed Boost and then Shinespark through the room to get to the Expansion?
That's the only one I can really think of that you can get without Power Bombs and with items before Power Bombs.
That actually sounds plausible, but I haven't tried it myself, and as far as I know, the one I'm thinking of is the only one you can get early.
Hint: it involves Shinesparking through an X barrier.
Would it be the X-Barrier in ARC that covers the third Power Bomb you should get? The one off to the right of the second-largest room that is relatively central on the map.
Dash along, stop, turn into a ball, jump and roll through the gap next to the barrier, stand up and shinespark through it.
At least, that's the only X-Barrier I can think of that you could Shinespark through before you get the Power Bombs themselves, and I have vague memories of getting a Power Bomb expansion early.
If that's not it, I surrender.
Okay, it's the tank in the room across from the elevator leading to the Etecoons and Dachoras in Main Deck.
Q: Is Samus a boy or a girl???
Wait wait wait...
How do you get up enough boost to shinespark through that barrier?
Do you head through the corridor one level down and then do a diagonal Spark?
Samus is female. xD That's likely the only Metroid trivia I could answer. But I did find a pretty awesome but graphic piece of fanart.
Lindy or whoever can ask a question, as I probably couldn't come up with a decent one.
You start at frozen Ridley, run right, through the Navigation Room and into the shaft with the X barrier, crouch to charge the Shinespark, jump about halfway up the shaft, shoot the door there, Shinespark horizontally into the small hallway, use the slant in the floor to recharge the Shinespark, double back into the shaft, continue to the top, and Shinespark horizontally through the X barrier.
I think I remember Metroid2002 having a demonstration of it.
Edit: Yeah.
This isn't supposed to be a trivia question for you guys to answer, it's Lindy's turn anyway. I was just wondering, why did the programmers make items that you get before they are downloaded in the data room impossible to use?
Because Metroid Fusion was designed to completely oppose the ideas of freedom of exploration and sequence-breaking.
Because the programmers are big jerks who don't like fun.
What movement-based innovation did Metroid Zero Mission bring to the series that had never been used prior in any form, and has never been used again to this date?
The Morphing Ball Shinespark is just one form of the Shinespark, which has been around since Super Metroid.
The Power Grip was in Metroid Fusion.
The Morphing Ball shooters were used again in Metroid Prime 2.
So I'll say the Zip Lines.
Hot shot, you win, next please.
This is only Metroid trivia in a fairly liberal sense, but give me a break. It's hard to think up new questions.
Q: What Virtual Boy game featured a pretty huge Super Metroid cameo? Bonus happy points if you can describe the cameo in any amount of detail.
since you said the word huge i say kraid, but I haven't even played virtual boy so it's just a random guess
The question is what the game is, not what the cameo is. And there's no Virtual Boy game called Kraid.
Oh, ok. I was kind of confused on that.
Problably that space flying game. There were only like 4 games and that space flying game is the only one I played. I image the cameo is the ship coming in and helping you out at some point.
*wronger than wrong*
Hint: The game does in fact have kind of a sci-fi theme.
That is some badass artwork. It is now my desktop background.Quote:

That's right. It even had a crazy little rendition of the Super Metroid theme.
What was the "slogan" that accompanied Metroid?
I have absolutely no idea.
"The challenge is Metroid, the power is Nintendo"?
Not that 'un.
Was it in the commercial at all? If not, I have no idea, since I know there's nothing that could pass for a slogan on the packaging and I don't think I've ever seen a print ad for the game.
I...don't remember, I just have a slogan in my head forever attached to the game booming in a loud voice.
Maybe it was in the manual, I forget. Y'know, like Super Metroid had "Destroy the space pirates and rescue the last Metroid!" or something like that, I forget, maybe my memory is just playing up on me.
"It's you against the evil Mother Brain in the thrilling battle of Metroid"? If it's not that, I give.Quote:

And as shown earlier, she was also on the VB, in Galactic Pinball.

I guess that would be right but there are multiple things that the answer could be from light beam to Heat visor. Also reserve tanks are not a selectable ability.

Ice Beam
Almost, but a little short.
That's the only thing I can think of...
The Ice Beam... and an orange suit?
Yes, the unnamed suit, it boosts your defence so it counts as an ability~
Yay, so I guess it's my turn then. I wish they would have named the suit... Anyway, in Metroid II - The Return of Samus, there are "Secret Worlds." What must be done to enter them?
Press pause/unpause repeatedly. I think the select button had something to do with it too but now I'm not remembering. I used to do it on my Gameboy, mostly in the final area.
Correct. Yeah I do it in the final area too. It's actually just pressing the SELECT button repeatedly, not pause. But since you mentioned it, it's your turn.
Which is why it doesn't count.Quote:

It's either 13 or 14. I went to http://www.classicgaming.com/mdb/m1/artwork.htm to find out.
Let me rephrase: The box/cartrige artwork.

I'd say two. One for the original release (the pixelated stuff they thought looked cool back then) and one for the rerelease (the Samus picture lifted out of the Metroid II art).Quote:

That is my half-ass answer and I am sticking to it. I don't know the names of the ships because I thought they were just called the ship.
They don't have names that I'm aware of. And you missed a lot.
Well, Metroid~Super Metroid, I think are the same ship, and the same kind is used in Metroid Prime and Prime 2, not sure though.
Metroid Zero Mission uses an alternate style of ship, which I think is also shown as the ship Samus uses in the Metroid Prime 3, at least in the trailers anyway.
And then there's the Fusion ship, which I actually liked quite a lot.
The Hunter-Class gunship is her standard one, according to the scans from Prime and Prime 2. Other than that, just the one from Metroid Fusion. While it didn't have a name, the ship's computer was called Adam...
Well, she also flies the Zebesian Space Pirate Escape Pod in Zero Mission.
So far no one has listed all of them.
I can't think of their names, but I will name the games they appeared in:
1. Metroid, Metroid 2, & Super Metroid.
2. Metroid Zero Mission
3. Metroid Fusion
4. Metroid Prime 1 & 2.
5. The Ship she stole in Metroid Zero-Mission.
I probably got it wrong. >_<
She didn't even have a ship in the original Metroid. C'mon.
...She didn't? I thought I remembered seeing it. But now that I think of it...no, she didn't!Quote:

Okay.Anyone can go.
- The red ship she has at the beginning of Zero Mission.
- The Space Pirate ship in which she escapes at the end of Zero Mission.
- The Metroid Prime ship.
- The Metroid Prime 2 ship.
- The Metroid II and Super Metroid ship.
- The Metroid Fusion ship.
You forgot the ship from Metroid Prime 3. It clearly looks different from all the other ships :D ;_;
This is a question I don't know the answer to but I am sure someone here does.
What gender are metroids? Are they male, female or asexual? I don't think they are asexual because of the queen but then again they could all evolve that far and have the goods inside them to just lay the eggs already fertilized. Answers plz ;_;

I'm not really sure. A metroid cannot reproduce until it's at the end of it's lifecycle and has became a queen. I'll say asexual.
People can ask a real trivia question you know. I already said that I don't know the answer.
Name all the different suits Samus baby has used~
Power
Varia
Gravity
Phazon
Dark
Light
Fusion
I think that's it.
Not enough, and I demand more specificity.
Power, Varia, Gravity, Phazon, Dark, Light, Fusion, The cheap blue, tight suit that she used in MZM in Space Pirate Mother Ship, and the suit that she got from the Chozo Ghost Trials in Chozodia in MZM (in which she got those huge shoulder pads), also the orange suit that she got after the SA-X was destroyed by the Omega Metroid. That's all I can remember.
Close enough.
The suit she was given in Chozodia in MZM was actually the Power/Varia/Gravity suit, but it counts as a new suit 'cause her previous one went boom and all. Also, I was looking for Fusion-Varia and Fusion-Gravity, since they're really new suits as they're add-ons to the entirely new Fusion suit, but that'd be far too pedantic, so whuteva.
What is the glitch-ability that can be used to get an early super missle tank in Brinstar in Super Metroid?
Speed Ball
I think it's only called the speed ball when you do it with the Speed Booster equipped. Before that, it's called the mock ball.
Yep, your turn.Quote:

One of the Kirby games? Superstars?
I don't know. I haven't played very many Super Nintendo games.
Yes, it's a Kirby game. Not that one, though.
Aha! Dreamland 3
World 5-2, to get one of the Star Hearts.
Haw, only got that 'cause I was just up to that area before I last stopped playing.
Yes.
I honestly cannot think of a question other than the "Where do you get X missile/energy/power bomb tank in X game?" kind, maybe we should lay this baby to bed =(
It's either that or start in with the really obscure questions, like what her parents' names are.
Also, I can't read Japanese.
There are translations available.
Ok, I'm too lazy to look =D
...Though a translation of the online Metroid Manga would be nice, if you happen to know somewhere to find it, hint hint, etc.
Sup?
So, like, which Metroid game(s) does Ridley not give the Screw Attack after you totally blow the hell out of him?
Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, and Metroid Zero Mission if you sequence-break.
Need I even bother to say you're right?
I find the false suspense pleasing.
What instrument does Samus play in the mass Nintendo cameo in the NES version of Tetris?
The cello?
Yus.
Over the past couple of months I've been here, I've discovered Kishi to be the ultimate video game master. How did you do it, Kawaii?

What does the Super Metroid Shinespark do differently to every other Metroid game's Shinespark?
