do u like ff7 better than ff8?

I gotta say that my first RPG and my favorite is FFVII. I didnt knew anything about RPGs since then. A friend of mine told me that I had to play an FF. So he ask me which one did I wanted to played first. He has every FF and he recommended FF7. For that time I had a brand new PS2. I didnt care for the graphics, it was just awesome, I had it for a long time, I beated Emerald weapon and Ruby weapon, I got a Golden Chocobo, and even had all the strongest weapons and all summons, so I played for a lot of time, I didnt even care for new PS2 releases. Then, one day, my friend came home a take away his:cry: FF7, but he gave FF8. After playing FF7, FF8 was extremely boring, but what I hated the most was that once you got to the last level you didnt had anything to do. I remember cursing the game for not letting me go back to the world map, then the game must have heard me. I finally founded the way out and I was like"Yeah, now Im going to______ city and make my adamantium weapons, Yeayha". Then the game said "You told me that I sucked, now take this!!" and when I got to ________ city, they were shield that didnt let me go in, I said "&*#@, lets try in the next one".

So, what I wanted to say was that FF7 was better no for graphics, nor music, and maybe not for the story, but because, even after beating the game, you could come back for more and DO things like trying to beat Emerald and ruby weapon, getting a Golden Chocobo, etc.

Plus, for me, Cloud>Squall, Sephiroth>Ultimecia, Materia>Junction system, FF7>FF8

Hey, Im giving it a chance unlike you, who probably never beat FF8 :rolleyes2 . Im reevaluating my opinion on FF7 instead of being hypercritical of it. I suggest everybody do the same, because there really is something good in every FF if you look at from an unbiased position and you quit badmouthing it like a little newb fanboy. FF8 is my favorite, but im not going to childishly bash FF7 anymore cause its not. FF7 has some good stuff in it, its just that I like FF8 better. :cool:

Make up your mind man, either you like the games or you don't. They're both different so you can't compare them. Personal attack?! Didnt you read anything I said. Im not going to bash FF7 anymore. Im going to appreciate it for what it is, not what it isnt. I like the music, the magic system, and sephiroth, etc. Just not as much as FF8. Im sorry I bashed FF7, Im sorry! AH! Happy? Good. I COMPLETELY AGREE. As far as I am concerned, Final Fantasy VIII was the best in the series and quite possibly the greatest creation in the department of fiction. For me, this is FACT, not opinion, IMO. :D

FF7's character Vincent had a whole secret background which proves right there that atleast one character had a background, but it wasn't just one. Sephiroth, Cloud, Marlene's real father, Barret, Red XII, Hojo, Lucrecia just to name a few all had backgrounds.

The only FF8 characters who had a background besides the story with the ophranage was Squall, Rinoa, Laguna, Ellone and Raine.

That's basically what I said, so I guess you agree with me then. :grinpink: I already stated that Ellone, Laguna, etc. had backgrounds so do most of the characters in 7 get over it. 8 is not superior. By the way that isn't called contridiction. *Hands dictionary* It's fact. People and Square decided that 7 was the best. I just liked it and I happen to like 8 too. I just like 7 more, because it has more to offer and it's a groundbreaking rpg. That's why Square is spending their money trying to milk all the success (7 has brought them) dry.

Their both awesome some people like one more and some people bash the other for some reason that I don't reallly get.

I would have to say the FFVII story line was in some ways depressing, like cloud, barret, and the others characters background. But FFVIII was a litttle bit less depressing, but.........i dunno, i think them both the same. There still my favorite games though.

I am actually enjoying FF7 a lot more this time through. Like I said before, there isnt really a " bad " FF, or " best " one for that matter. I agree with Shadow, why cant we get along. I mean, we all have our favorite FF, but there really is anything wrong with the other ones. Its all a matter of preference.

Tis true. FF7 is getting a ton of hype right now. I like the stuff comin out ( FF7:AC and FF7 Last Order ), but I would like to see some other FFs getting some attention too. Two new games and two new movies seems a little much...

Only the old FF's deserve some attention. Newer ones do not

I agree, you can only go so far with a game. People start to get tired of it, and when you have too many sequels and stuff it ruins the feel for the game. I was never really into FFVII to begin with, but with all this extra stuff they're doing with it makes me dislike it even more.

Curious, how many of you have actually played & completed both games?

I played both many times, and both things have the pros and the cons- as does everything.

Final Fantasy VII has a unique storyline and great characters with such personalities, and it has the humorous parts...I especially like how you're in a way putting pieces together in a puzzle in a way. There are plenty of outcomes for almost everything you do, and it was a stupendous game overall. With chocobo racing and the motorcycle game, it was very fun. Although, I was disappointed to see one of my favorite characters die in the end. This is a very emotional game, that is also one of my favorites.

However, Final Fantasy VIII seemed to be more appealing to me. The characters are, too, very interesting and all well put together. I easily fell in love with Squall, and easily hated Seifer. The plot of the game is exciting and it all twines together so well. All of the side-quests made the game all that more interesting, and with a background story of Laguna that made me love it all even more. It featured great graphics for the year that it was made, even though the whole walking in a line beside eachother got quite annoying sometimes. I really loved Eyes on Me, it is to this day one of my absolute favorite songs. The dance in the beginning was beautiful, and you can see the relationship forming from the beginning. Anyway, I shouldn't babble too much..straight to the point...

In my opinion, I think that Final Fantasy VIII is the best.

I have played both many times. I like them both for their merits, and play both still. They are in my mind, almost equal. To me 7 comes out, probably for sentimental reasons. But they are both good, nay, great games.

to me ff7 takes the cake it just seems so much better than ff8 i still luv them both but I just like ff7 better

I wasn't not talking about the Vincent scene...get off of that. It doesn't matter what you know about both games, because everyone here seems to be somewhat informed of both of them. But the fact that your making up some things that just aren't true "characters have no background etc." is false. Pretty much all the characters had background. So regardless of whether you can answer trivia questions about 7 you still won't get the point which is that whether you like 8 the best (which is fine) 7 is the most popular. I like 8 as well, but as you know I liked 7 because it was more emotional and made room for a sequel. I wanted 8 to have a sequel as well but I knew that wouldn't be possible, because they pretty much screwed up the ending. There's no way you can say anything about 7 unless you appreciate it as a great rpg and can give the correct cons of the game instead of just making something up. This is why I agreed with Sezter. Also, 8 is very cliche which is why I was turned off by it while I playing it. 7 had a more shocking storyline that made it all the better. So I guess it's just prefence but I'm not going to take back the statement that 8 is obvoiusly somewhat inferior to 7 because it is. I suggest you play the game again without rushing through it and then if you still don't like it that's you. But then atleast you'll hopefully have actual cons to the game. Instead of saying "7 sucks" without any plausible reasons.

I don't like the characters, and wasn't crazy about the game. That's just MY opinion. All that stuff you said about FFVIII is YOUR opinion. Okay? Well, not really. First, VIII was the best :D and as of today, I believe VIII might have sold more copies than VII. This fact was argued on the discussion boards at WikiPedia until it was added- just check out the Final Fantasy VIII article.

That wasn't today when it first came out that was then. And it didn't sell as much copies. FF7 sold the most in the U.S. The internet isn't always right, but sales don't lie.
