Previous deviations haven't been cringe-worthy! Previous deviations have been awesome! Yeah, you cringe at Ros's murder, but it was fantastic. And all the Tywin/Arya scenes were lovely. The Theon torture was cringe-worthy, though they weren't really a deviation so much as an addition.
Unfortunately, it seems like it's a lock at this point. When the first season ended and they announced A Dance With Dragons coming out that summer, a lot of people thought he was taking his output more seriously. His editor even said he would be back to "a book every 2 years" schedule now that he took care of the Feast/Dance arc. But now it's looking more like the 5+ year trend is continuing. Which leads me to a small question: where did we leave Stannis last season? I'm having difficulty remembering his storyline from last season. I could go over it on-line, but I can't be bothered.
He got a message from the Wall saying to come and bring his army because the Whitewalkers were coming.
This is fascinating. While it's about Sunday's episode, I don't think there are any major spoilers in it.
