A lot of sad stuff happened. I feel sad.
There's an entire rap album devoted to Game of Thrones. It's...not very good, but the idea is solid. There are a lot of similiarities between Westeros intrigue and thug lyfe, that's for sure.
Anyway, I really enjoyed that episode! My favourite parts for the (albeit brief) crossing-over of storylines - Jon/Stannis in particular was great to see, especially with the whole "What would Ned do" thing. Also, I cheered out loud when Brienne beat the Hound to a bloody pulp - that was awesome.
I wonder what the deal was between Tywin and Shae: Seriously, how on Earth did THAT happen?
Also, I'm assuming Jaime had some sort of plan in place when he helped out Tyrion, because Tywin was obviously gonna find out who was responsible...was he planning on murdering Tywin himself? With or without Cersei?
Great episode, Stannis you hero:D
So where would I have to start reading to go from the end of series 4? I can't wait a year.
Oh yeah, the look between Melisandre meeting Jon Snow for the first time... that was awesome. And for any non-book reader, they probably think she's going to eat him alive. (SPOILER)Not that they're not wrong...
Get the smurf out of here with your BOOK SPOILERS. They're doing more than you think they are. You have a whole own thread to duck around with your books :doublecolbert:
Anyway EVERYONE I LIKED SURVIVED. Arya did what I had wanted her to do since that braavos guy first left. The only thing that annoys me was that Cersei's head wasn't impaled on a dozen crossbow bolts.
Mirage I remember you saying you would stop watching if Tyrion got executed. How did you feel about how his plotline for this season was wrapped up?
Best parts -
Jon Snow picks up a cup and drinks from it, then coughs a bit
Some people have beards
I had beans and chopped tomatoes while watching
There's a horse
Possible improvements -
More ducks
A cat that talks with a well known actor's voice, maybe George Clooney or Jim Carrey
A man comes in and says to Daenerys if she would like to come over for a cup of tea, turns out he's actually a tea salesman
Turns out Jaime Lannister is actually a bee
Overview -
Kind of like an epilogue, as last episode was a huge crazy finale of a battle but this episode was more subdued, like a vicious dog that's on drugs.
Daenerys is my favourite character but her scenes have gotten more and more boring and they are moving along at a snail's pace. I felt like crying when she chained the dragons up.
I liked the episode a lot. It will be a long wait now. I'll have to watch Homeward Bound 2: Lost In San Francisco every day until the fifth season comes on.
We're forgetting the most important part.
SMURFING SKELETONS! MORE OF THAT PLEASE!
Hurray!
That whole scene with Brandon Stark et al.
I loved Cersei this episode.
"If you try and force me to marry I'll tell everyone the rumors are true about me and Jaime. The rumors you don't want to believe but you know are true."

Sometime I like looking back on the very first episode. It's so nice seeing all the Starks in one place (and alive).
Great episode!
The wall part was good, though I would rather have seen them progress a bit further with that story instead of saying goodbye to Ygritte a second time and that.
The Daenerys parts are definitely starting to drag on, but at the same they almost always tell a very important part of her story. I imagine they can only hurry her story so much without putting her out of sync with the rest of the world, too.
Bran's part was great. Kinda wish they would've stuck to more semi-decayed humans rather than skeletons for the wights, and I would have loved to see the Three-Eyed Raven more tree-like and interwoven with the branches, but those are minor nitpicks.
Brienne vs. Sandor was an AWESOME fight! I didn't see it coming either, and I didn't know who to root for (though I had an inkling how they'd tie it together with the book story), and dat choreography! One of my favourite fight scenes from the show so far, I think. I liked the scene after between Arya and Sandor, too. Say what you will about Arya's story so far, but she has some of most interesting character development in the show. That was a pretty damn cold move.
Tyrion's part was everything I wanted from it, really. Sure, I could nitpick here too, but overall I think they did this incredibly well. As some others have mentioned, I'm also curious what they'll do with Tyrion's character from now on, considering the parts they left out. Curious in an excited way, though!
I'm not bothered by them leaving the book spoilerLady Stoneheart scene for later. I was expecting them to squeeze it in, and it would have been a cool scene to end on, but the episode was action-packed enough. Arya's scene was a nice note to end on.
I forgot about the way they had the wights before in Season One. I don't think it would be much of a stretch to have both. We don't know how long those bodies has been buried in the snow and that is ultimately what happens to a corpse. The wights we've seen before wasn't dead for that long unless there's something I'm forgetting.
Tywin be like:

Man that was a great episode.
The saddest part was the dragons in chains :whimper:
My only and single issue with this episode is that there was so much of it that was good that I just wanted more and more and more. Every aspect of it was superb and satisfying and it feels nice to just get a brief respite from everything in plot terms as several plots have reached a conclusion and new ones are starting up in their wake.
Book SpoilersI am surprised that Lady Stoneheart wasn't revealed because it seemed like the really obvious time to do it but then again this episode had Children of the Forest with actual fireballs and The Hound and Brienne fighting and Tywin on the privy and oh man.
*looks at sig* Mister Adequate, were those your skeletons that attacked Bran? :mymelbert:
The Spooky Scary Skeletons, you might say!
Well I do want Meera Reed for myself but nah, we were busy partying in Qohor
Dear book people: You know why the show creators didn't put in the scene you were expecting? Because you were expecting it. You overhyped the trout out of it too. Knock that trout off. It makes complete sense to push that scene back since big spoilerLady Stoneheart doesn't do trout for a good long time after being revealed. Shut your smurfing faceholes about it.
I am concerned, though, about the way they trimmed the scene between Tyrion and Jaime. They were supposed to have a conversation that was very significant for the development of both of their characters, and now that Tywin's dead and Tyrion's on a ship I don't know how they'll make up for it. Click if you want to know what was missing.Tyrion's motivation in the next season should be finding Tysha, his wife from when he was young, after Jaime confesses she really wasn't a whore. Tyrion asks Tywin about it while he's on the pooper and want to know where she is, to which Tywin tells her "Wherever whores go," which motivates Tyrion to search for her. Out of anger over Jaime's confession, Tyrion tells Jaime that Cersei's been sleeping around, after Jaime has been faithful to her all this time. I really love Jaime and Tyrion's relationship; it's makes Jaime so complex to be the kind of guy who pushes children out of windows but loves his baby brother.
Also, the re-characterization of Shae made her murder really, really dark. In the books she was just some stupid whore who deserved to be choked to death.
I'm not complaining about the changes; just noting them.
I thought they did a fabulous job overall though. I love that they dragged out Arya and the Hound's adventures and added an interaction with Brienne; it was really great. I was looking forward to Arya's next adventure for a long time, but she really did need to have her storyline drawn out a bit longer, and adding more Hound was a great choice.
And I just loved Cersei this episode. She may be a bumblesmurf when it comes to wanting and having power, but as a mother she does not smurf around.
Great season ending!
Tyrions part was great. i know some spoilers but they didnt happen yet, like i expected they would...
makes it even more exciting!
Putting this in a spoiler because I have little faith in my memory don't click unless you clicked Shlup's spoiler alreadyDidn't Tyrion mention Cersei sleeping around when they were talking in his cell a few episodes prior?
Best. Finale. Ever.
I was so torn when Brienne and The Hound fought: I like them both, and I've really developed a soft spot for Sandor. So I was a bit sad. :( book spoilers and potential future spoilershowever, I am a believer of Sandor being alive, so I wasn't that sad! Sandor Clegane v Robert Strong?
I wasn't expecting Jojen to be going anywhere just yet! I feel like Bran's story has just jumped ahead of most of the others. What are they going to do with him next season?
Tyrion's scene was great but (SPOILER)what now? What is going to be Tyrions driver next season? How is Jaime going to grow to hate Cersei? Interested to see where that is headed
When Stannis arrived at the wall? Awesome!
And you know what more spoilers, sorry :(let me be disappointed at the no lady stoneheart! It would have just made the perfect episode even more perfect. Don't get me wrong, I'm not devastated! I just hope they haven't cut her entirely as she plays a pretty big role - the reintroduction of Gendry (he has to be more!) Brienne, Pod, Jaime?
I've read most of the stuff that was revealed in this episode along with what most people are up in arms about being missing. There were two things I felt they would possibly do in this episode at most after the previous episode, which to be honest I felt was better than this one. The first thing I thought they would do is Tyrion's escape (and Tywin's death) which they did. The second thing was Stannis arriving at the Wall, which they did. What I didn't expect was both, although I did kind of think they might - I just thought they would save one of these things for the first episode of next season, much like Joffrey's death was saved for the first episode of this season. I never thought they would show Arya hopping on a boat, nor did I think they would show the other thing everyone has mentioned (that they didn't show). It just didn't seem like the right time - these two other things were much more immediate given the last couple of episodes and I felt they had to be done more than anything.
Personally, going by my perspective and the amount of shock from Danielle about each thing unravelled during the show, I think Stannis' arrival would have been the perfect sendoff for this season because it was the most surprising development for those people following the series. Danielle rattled off a bunch of people she thought it could be when the army arrived but didn't mention Stannis. She loved that. And the size of his army! Amazing. Tywin's death was not done nearly as well and Arya's boathopping wasn't nearly as impacting as most of the ends of episodes this season. I don't think I've read the Bran stuff, though, so that'll be neat to catch up on.
Looking forward to reading up on what happens next in the book, because it's caught up with around where I am for a bunch of the plotlines now.
Also, of all the things they left out, I was most surprised at what Shlup mentioned. That for me was such a massive development. It'll be interesting how they play that out, for sure.
Best episode this season? Probably the previous one, for me.
I less pissed off the longer the show's been aired, but I'm still disappointed.
Also, I think maybe they're speeding up Bran's story because Isaac Hempstead-Wright is growing up SO fast. The other Stark children are obviously getting older, but not to the extent he is. That's just a theory though, I dunno!
EDIT: Joffrey didn't die in the first episode. It was the third episode this season, I believe.
Stannis arriving at the Wall wasn't a surprise, though. Not if you were paying attention to the past episodes, anyway! There were letters sent out to the four corners of the kingdom. I felt like they made it pretty clear that he was heading to the Wall.
the thing everyone is up in arms about missingI don't really care, plenty of other business going on in the finale!
Oh, I knew he was heading for the wall, I just didn't think it would be anything close to that fast. It was one of the few things to really surprise me in the books, while things like Tywin's death were pretty much "oh, another major player died, whaddyaknow" - it was more "interesting" than "oh, wow!" like Stannis' arrival was. For me, anyway!
Danielle initially thought it was the Whitewalkers, then she thought it was random Stark supporters. Essentially you always expect the nearby people to be there first rather than those who were, last we saw them, the furthest away. But then, chronology is always a bit weird in the books/show.
EDIT: And you're right, Jinx, my bad. Still, a good example of the most impacting things not always needing to be the last things in the season - hell, what did we get last time? Snow climbing the wall or something? Psssssshhhhhhhhh. I guess it's similar this time around with Arya and the boat. Just a whole "oh, there's something new on the horizon!" kind of feel. Which probably works really well if you were to marathon this stuff.
On a sidenote: Marathoning GoT. Oh man. I look forward to being able to do this someday.
"I'm looking for a Stark in the streets but a wildling in the sheets."

I hate to say it, and I'm probably going to get blasted for it, but I'm beginning to get bored with this show now. It's all becoming really predictable.
I don't know, this season felt like a whole lot of nothing. I mean a lot actually happened, but none of it really felt truly impacting to me - this season really hasn't had the "omg I can't wait to go home to watch it tonight" vibe that the previous seasons did. There were some deaths, but the majority of them - Oberyn excluded - I saw coming from a mile off. I honestly would've been more shocked if Tyrion had actually been hanged. With Ned Stark I was second guessing right up until the end, but Tyrion I never truly felt like he was going to actually get executed at any point. As soon as Jamie freed him, I knew exactly what Tyrion would go and do.
Like honestly the biggest surprise to me of this entire episode was the little girl with fireballs. I will admit I was actually torn over who I'd want to win out of Brienne and the Hound though.
It just feels like it's all being spread thin, and diluted with the same plot devices just being used over and over. There's just so much going on now that it's lost the compelling complexity that made the first 3 seasons great to watch. I guess it just felt like a whole lot of "going through the motions" this season, I hope next season makes up for it because a lot of pieces have certainly been put into position.
Maybe this will be the type of season, that in a repeat viewing 8 years from now when I innevitably watch old tv shows again, I'll probably appreciate a lot more... but nothing has hooked me at the moment, and I'm pretty blasé about the prospect of season 5 as a result.
As an aside, the best part of that entire episode was the children's choir version of the main theme at the end.
That's how I felt about the finale as well. A bit...lackluster. I wouldn't say predictable...but I knew what was going to happen pretty much. Before you say that's the definition of predictable I'd say they could have made me not know for sure if Tyrion would kill Shae or Tywin, but once he got that crossbow and him just seeing her it was pretty clear was going to happen.
Brienne and the Hound scene was awesome. I didn't want either to lose, but if I were Arya I wouldn't go with Briene either after that lol. Brienne should've had a better argument. Shoulda told her about helping her mother and looking for Sansa.
Best part of the episode was freakin Melisandre staring at Jon Snow through the smoke. Freakin bad ass. "There's is King's Blood in him...Oh R'hollor's gonna love this shieet. Oh yeaahhh. King's Blood, omg...ahhhh." And of course Stannis coming in, unexpected but also expected by this point lol.
I have no idea what's going on in Bran's story. I was like wat the whole time. Hodor-battles (is there a proper name for this?) are as awesome as always though.
And Dany's story couldn't have been more unfulfilling.
Jojen needed to stop warging it so much and hit the gym.
I did last time. Penny Dreadful distracted me this time.
The part everyone is mad about not being included. After I have thought about, I don't think it would have fit. It would have been cool but show viewers would have been confused and it also has hardly any set up. Apparently they were debating even putting it in at all. Like at all. But with no build up people will be confused about it all.
Also I am still excited about stannis the mannis.

Obviously your taste is your taste, but I have a hard time understanding how people think it wasn't a hugely impactful and crazy season. Dany's story (much as I love her) was fairly slow this season, and we didn't see much of Varys, but aside from that trout has gone completely berserk. The wildling armies attacked The Wall, were repulsed, and have been crushed by Stannis. Stannis got a new army and took it north to defeat Mance Rayder, which he did with very few casualties. Joffrey died, Tommen took the throne, and now Tywin is dead, which makes Cersei the power behind the throne. Sansa escaped from King's Landing and has gone pro. Littlefinger is now basically in charge of the Vale. Roose has largely secured the North. Bran's reached some crazy-ass place with full on skellies and fireball magic. Tyrion's trial, both in court and by combat, was absolutely amazing television. Qyburn's up to something seriously messed up with The Mountain (Pycelle isn't one to go against Cersei without good reason).
Like I say I'm obviously not trying to argue that your feelings on the show are wrong :p I'm just not sure I really see where they come from.
I'm curious about how the book goes about that in that case, because Pike and I both entirely felt she was just a stupid backstabbing whore who deserved to be choked to death.
e; for my part I'm not upset about the obvious omission, I was just surprised by it because it seemed - before we saw the episode - such an obvious stinger in the last ten seconds that would have show-only people go completely berserk, probably second only to the Red Wedding. Now that we have actually seen the episode I don't think it would have been as good an inclusion as previous assumed, because the tone of this was clearly one of settling a lot of plotlines and setting up their successors, but many of these were concrete enough settlements with obvious causes and guessable consequences. e.g. Tywin is dead, Tyrion is fleeing, Bran has reached the three-eyed raven, the wildlings are decapitated, etc.. and some even halfway satisfying situations, like Arya going to Braavos. Throwing in the big reveal would have been against the tone of the episode, I think, so despite my admitted surprise I reckon they made the right choice.
Best finale so far, and maybe the best episode. It brought a satisfying conclusion to every storyline and opened the door to new adventures. Can't wait for the TyrionxVarys adventures!
Re: the "missing" scene: I count two people complaining about it being missing (and one expressing mild disappointment), and at least four people yelling at "everyone", or "you lot", to stop complaining about it. xD
Don't include me in the yelling, I wasn't yelling :colbert:
Moar Night's King, white walkers, and wights, please.
The crate is actually built like a TARDIS so I will be chilling in the pool all the way across The Narrow Sea :cool:Yep, nobody else in my office has read the books and they were all absolutely furious about Shae - even before you see the final and worst betrayal of her smurfing the father Tyrion hates. They normally don't want spoilers but such was the hatred, they wanted to know whether or not she would get what she has coming to her.
The only thing about GoT that I'm getting bored of is having to tiptoe around spoilers every fecking Monday :mad2:
Last night I had a dream that Peter Dinklage came to my house dressed as Tyrion and I took all sorts of great photos of us posing together and then I put them on Facebook all :smug: and you guys were all impressed but then I woke up and this had not, in fact, occurred. :(
I don't think so... I remember what scene you're thinking of, I think, but it was a huge deal when it happened in the book.
In the book they aren't lovers that have a falling out. She's not getting back at him for scorning her. He does fall in love with her and you might believe she's in love with him because she does all the lovery things, but they don't have lover's quarrels and stuff. She's really just a whore, so when he kills her he's killing the whore that betrayed him. When you murder someone who you were mutually in love with but had a falling out with, I think it's much darker of a murder.
Agreed. Every storyline had a nice transition to something new and exciting.
I count two people saying "everyone" and "you lot" and one person being a fat bitch, so suck it you fat bitch.
To be fair, her storyline is just as dull in the books at this point. Maybe moreso.
No, definitely moreso.
Yeah I was just tired and grouchy with it last night. My main issue with this season is that a lot of the fleeting jokes I've made to colleagues about what I think is going to happen ("Joffrey totes gonna die at his wedding" and people were like no way man. "Tyrion's totally going to get busted out and kill his father") most of these actually happened, and that broke my immersion a lot in the show - that these big pivotal moments were something I actually called weeks beforehand with flippant jokes.
But after sleeping on it and chatting over coffee at work this morning, it's grown on me again.
I like where the season ended. I feel like there have been some resolutions. If they had ended with an ass-pull, I would be sitting here going "smurf me how many seconds until the next season, I can't wait." Instead, I am pleasantly looking forward to what's on the horizons without burning myself out. It was a solid ending, one that lays the foundation for more excitement. I do love the sheer amount of spoilers I've seen because of people's disappointment though. People lose their trout "oh no we're being stooged" and suddenly I don't need to watch 12 months to know all about that character.
Looking forward to next season:
- Arya's adventures in Braavos.
- Tyrion & Varys adventures in wherever the hell they are going.
- What the hell Stannis is up to at the Wall.
- Cersei making a royal muckup of King's Landing without Tywin, Tyrion, or Varys there to keep her reigned in.
King's Landing, and by extension Westeros, just lost it's three most sensible people in one episode. I hope that has dire consequences.
I feel quite differently! Go back and watch the scenes with the two of them, when she calls him her lion and they tell each other that they belong to one another and when they spend time together in general. There is one part in particular, I think, after Tyrion's face was mangled at Blackwater, I think, when she is holding his head in her hands and looking at him telling him something very firmly about how he is hers and she is his or something and he just starts crying and they embrace. She would get upset when he didn't spend time with her, got jealous about him and Sansa. They felt like they were in an actual relationship to me.
Me too. However, she might have really started to hate him after he tried to get her away, so who knows maybe her feelings of love disappeared and she went back to just whoring.
I like what they've done with Stannis at the Wall. Both storylines were in danger of being stale. Stannis's kind of petered out after Blackwater and the aftermath, and "yes there are still things that want to attack the Wall" gets repetitive. Merging the two creates whole new levels of intrigue and character interaction. A common criticism of GoT is that it has too many different storylines and only 5 minutes of each gets shown per episode - merging two certainly helps with that.
Also as a character it shows you Stannis's worth. The Night's Watch calls for help and nobody else cares - they even laugh at them - even though the White Walkers are the true threat to the realm, even bigger than Danaerys. Not Stannis. He could've made another attack on King's Landing with his new army but instead he's putting his ambitions to one side to save the realm. A true smurfing King.
I dunno. I can't say for sure. When I first saw her speak at the trial I think I thought it could be out of self preservation just as much as it was revenge, or a combination of both. It's just in this final episode that I started thinking she might have been really mad at him for reals.
Shae called Tywin her Lion. What a bitch. :colbert:
Shae's a smart girl. She saw the army on the move, and went there in search of someone to protect her or keep her, likely hoping to find some general or lord to dote on her. She was perfectly happy to go from the dude Bronn brought her from to Tyrion without a fuss because she knew who he was and that he was a powerful man in the kingdom, and she played her part well. She made the same transition from Tyrion to Tywin easily enough, and you can hear her calling him "her lion", etc. She was angry at being sent away from King's Landing because I believe she feels the need to be around powerful men who will care for her and make sure she is taken care of. When Tyrion sent her away, she viewed that as a threat to her motives, so she returned to find a better place for herself and when she saw him again as she was in Tywin's bed, she instinctively tried to kill him instead of apologizing or begging for mercy as I think she would have done if she had ever actually loved him.
I suppose that it could be interpreted either way, though. Seems to me like she was trying to climb the ladder. That's how I see it, based on the progression of her character.
I'm just going to leave these right here...

Can someone explain to me how Stannis' story is deviating/combining with other things from the book? I can't remember...thanks! :)
One thing that was missing from this season (as a whole, not the finale!): Rickon Stark.
Fine that we didn't see him this season, but they could have at least mentioned him a few times.
I watch the show with non-book readers and a few times they've been like 'who the crap is that?' when somebody turns up again when they haven't been seen or even mentioned for ages. It's a complex story with a ton of characters! And seeing that Rickon hasn't played a huge part of the story so far and wouldn't necessarily be remembered automatically; it would be nice to remind people that he is also a living Stark (well, as far as we know - as he went off with Osha)
GRRM quotes on Shae:
Supposedly in the commentary for season 3, GRRM says book-Shae was 100% after money/status and never cared for Tyrion, whereas show-Shae did care for him to some degree. I don't know if he really says that, I just read it somewhere. We don't know her motives for sure, and her feelings are probably not 100% black and white, which is why this story is so good.Quote:
"Some of the other characters, Sibel Kekelli's version of Shae, TV Shae, is very different from book Shae. I've come to, initially I didn't like it very much, but then I came to particularly in the episodes late in the second season, really like TV Shae, but there's no question of that having any influence on future portrayals (I won't say more than that), so that's just a question of which version you like better. But certainly, they're two different characters."[2]
And nothing of value was lost.Quote:

I wish Arya & The Hound would have combined with Brienne & Pod permanently and they could have foursome adventures!
I do remember that, Dr. Unne!
King's Landing has never really been just one storyline - you'd have several different character interactions going on in each episode. With Tyrion, Tywin, Shae, Sansa, Bronn, Pod, Joffrey, Littlefinger, Oberyn and Varys all departing for one reason or another there should be less emphasis on that area now anyway.
Yes but the character interactions are what made it so great. The strength of this show is when the main characters play off of each other rather than having splintered storylines with one main and several side characters. I hope that happens more and more often.
Really I just hope for a lot of Varys/Tyrion interaction next season and not that they reach shore and go their separate ways.
I won't go into any detail other than give a one word answer, but if you want to know whether to expect what you want: (SPOILER)don't. :(
Look! Special Effects!
Well quit trying to predict everything, smartass!
Agreed on all points. I do hate to see things get overhyped, but I have to say I really like this next branch of Arya's storyline in particular. I hope they do well with it in the show.
He set her up with her own estate in Essos. She's just a stupid asshole.
This is why he's called Stannis the Mannis. They've done a lot to damage his character in the show (in the book he's more honorable and doesn't burn heretics at the stake) but you can't take this away from him! He's pretty boss.
Events are pretty much the same, just details are different. In the book he laments killing Renly, is an athiest, doesn't burn heretics at the stake, is all about duty and there's no evidence in particular that he lusts for the red woman.
Yeah, I really wanted Arya to be all "Stop, guys! We can all adventure together! No need to fight!"
I really wanted Arya and Brienne to go on girlbro adventures. You know, they enjoy sunsets, walks in the rain, and killing men.
Sadly it was not to be. :(
they dont even fire real arrows, i feel decieved :colbert:

I really don't get why they cut that. It's going to completely gut Tyrion's motivations for his actions over the next two seasons. The number of time he obsesses over Tywin's "Wherever whores go" line in his internal monologue in Dance numbers in the double digits.
As I've seen around the internet (and could figure out on my own) it's mostly because Tysha hasn't been mentioned since what, season 2? Season 1? Show-only people might have a hard time remembering who she is.
I'm not justifying the cut, just what seems to be the consensus on WHY it was cut.
I'm really happy they had the balls to kill off Shae.
I agree, Jinx. The books tell you what people are thinking, the TV show doesn't. The Tysha thing in the book is entirely in Tyrion's mind and it would be hard to convey on the TV show. The show already has so many characters, I'm shocked people who haven't read the book can keep up. Each character gets barely a couple minutes of screentime each week to tell their story. They've done a lot of combining characters and plotlines together probably in an effort to keep things simple, and I think it's worked well so far.
It's not all in his mind. He asks it of enough people for it to be apparent that it's something he is fixated on. It would have been feasible to keep within the show. They've managed to take an overwhelming amount of liberties so far, and could have written it in to be appropriately fitting in one way or another.
I've been reading the books in parallel with the show (almost done with ASoS) and I'm not noticing an 'overwhelming' amount of liberties. It's been remarkably consistent, and it will never be a perfect adaptation (nor should it).
It could simply be that the producers know something we don't and perhaps the revelation doesn't have an impact on the end-story. With everything else they're going to want to put on screen with that storyline, it may have been an unnecessary distraction.
Not to be petty, but here's a list off the top of my head, and I'm sure there are a myriad of others out there on the internet xD
up to and a little bit in to ADWD
Ros
Cold Hands
Jojen's death
Missing Vargo Hoat, kindof a little bit replaced by Locke
Missing Edric Storm
Missing Patchface
Tyrion's messed up face
Renly & Loras were spelled out as being gay
Arya & Tywin instead of Arya & Roose
Pod being sent to squire for Brienne
The Hound and Arya meeting Brienne and Pod
The Hound's "death"
Missing Strong Belwas
Sansa confessing who she is to Bronze Yohn Royce and his little group in an effort to save Littlefinger
Robb's wife Talisa, the entire omission of the Westerlings
Ilyn Payne teaching Jaime to swordfight instead of Bronn
Asha/Yara
The characterization of Shae
Jon had already been elected Commander by the time Stannis reached the Wall
and now the omission of Tysha and "where do whores go" with Tywin's death
House of the Undying
Overall, sure, the plot has basic consistencies, but many liberties have been taken.
I guess we have different definitions of liberties.
Perhaps we do!
Oh, Shorty! Add the House of the Undying to your list! :D
I'm happy with how they've handled the book-to-show conversion so far, so I'll definitely hold off on judging the decision to leave out Tysha until I see what comes of it.
Yeah, I'm thinking if Tyrion ever finds Tysha in the books, I'll be very surprised now.
The only alterations that I've been displeased by have been the omission of Renly's peach, and Tyrion and Jaime's goodbye being cut. The later of which I will probably end up forgiving; it's too early to tell. I certainly don't mind changes, but if it's a simple thing that they leave out that would've improved the characterizations... I'm a bit bothered, sure.
They've taken huge liberties with Daenarys's story the most to try to make it less trout and boring.
Season 2 was the biggest one. Nobody stole her dragons, there was no mass Qarth master murder, she did not lock Xaro Xhoan Daxos (who was white as hell xD) and Doreah (who randomly dies in the desert of some disease) in a vault. Xaro hits on her, she says no, so he eventually bores of trying to woo her and tells her to gtfo his house.
I didn't mention it before but I was chuckling like a mothersmurfer when Jon suggested that Stannis burn the bodies. Like duh mothersmurfer Stannis burns everything that's his jam. He's blessed by it and trout. So even though I think Stannis is a bit of a knob sometimes (thank smurf for Davos ey) I am hedging all of my bets on him smurfing over the White Walkers.

p.s how does the hippo get light from above when theres a crate on it?
My bf spotted Oberyn in a Starbucks today. If it were me I would've asked if his eyes were okay.
If it were me I would've kissed his beautiful handsome face and asked him to use his long spear to inject me with his poison.
If it were me I would've told him OBERYN MARTELL. I WILL RAPE YOU. I WILL MARRY YOU. I WILL HAVE YOUR CHILDREN. I CONFESS.
then what psychotic said.
I can't believe I got Hodor, what
Omg, alive-man, such a coinsidence
http://theoatmeal.com/img/quizzes/ge...d/18_hodor.jpg
I got Tyrion! :)
Oatmeal: Hodor
Buzzfeed: Jon Snow
BuddyTV: Ned Stark
My fave test I've stumbled across so far is the one on Quizfarm because it tells you your "ratings", although it doesn't have any recent characters (I'm unsure if there is one that is as recent as season four). On that one, I got...
Ned Stark 75%
Tyrion 65%
Jamie 65%
Drogo 60% (really? xD)
Dany 50%
Jon 40%
Robert 35%
Petyr 30%
Joffrey 15%
Here's the quiz.
I got Littlefinger at 75% and then 65% for Jaime and Tyrion. Pleased with those three!
I was least like Dany, Joffrey and King Robert. Two of those I'm happy enough about xD King Robert is smurfing awesome though.
85% Khal Drogo, apparently. Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister took second and third, with 80% and 75% respectively. 70% Daenerys Targaryen, though, and 40% Joffrey. xD
You were the Joffrey to Steve's Sansa.
lol
Eddard Stark 70%
Petyr Baelish 50%
Jaimie lannister 40%
Khal Drogo 35%
Robert Baratheon 35%
Danny 35%
Tyrion 30
John 25
and 10% joffrey
I got very close to Shai.
Eddard Stark 70%
Petyr Baelish 55%
Jaimie Lannister 55%
Khal Drogo 50%
Tyrion Lannister 35%
Joffrey Lannister 25%
John Snow 20%
Daenerys Targaryen 15%
Robert Baratheon 5%
80% Jamie Lannister. I don't have a sister, so I'm in the clear. I do enjoy having two hands, though.
Eddard Stark - 80%
Daenerys Targaryen - 70%
Jaimie Lannister - 60%
Tyrion Lannister - 60%
Khal Drogo - 60%
Petyr Baelish - 55%
Robert Baratheon - 50%
John Snow - 50%
Joffrey Lannister - 25%
No surprise there, I guess.
Eddard Stark 85%
Jaimie Lannister 70%
Daenerys Targaryen 65%
Tyrion Lannister 60%
Khal Drogo 45%
Petyr Baelish 35%
Robert Baratheon 35%
John Snow 25%
Joffrey Lannister 15%
Well that was unexpected.
John[hic] Snow 90%
Daenerys Targaryen 85%
Eddard Stark 80%
Tyrion Lannister 80%
Jaime Lannister 70%
Khal Drogo 50%
Robert Baratheon 45%
Petyr Baelish 35%
Joffrey Lannister 10%
Didn't expect that, such a high % with Daenerys and Jon.
i know this has been pointed out before but.. :3
http://d3dsacqprgcsqh.cloudfront.net...qLdRd_460s.jpg
Guess who's coming back. Not who you think but you'll be excited none the less
http://cdn.winteriscoming.net/wp-con...-Wlaschiha.jpg
He's jut been listed that he'll be filming on Game of Thrones again. What he'll be doing, dunno. He may replace a character or something but this sexy man is back.
A man is very excited by this.
And that man is me.
I am very excited by this.
Danielle got 55% for Joffrey. :erm:
I haven't taken this quiz, because I don't like how it's only about 10 people, some of them not even main characters.
Oh wow, I forgot how cute Arya used to be.
You Scored as Eddard Stark
You are Eddard Stark. King of the North, you are very honorable and a loyal friend. However, this kindness and nobility, although admirable qualities, may end up hurting you in the long run.
Eddard Stark
80%
Jaimie Lannister
65%
Tyrion Lannister
65%
A Man, plef, a Man.
Oh goodie! I loved his character!
And I love his face.
I keep looking at it.
Mmmmm.
Well here's what I got:
Eddard Stark - 80%
Daenarys Targaryen - 65%
Tyrion Lannister - 60%
John Snow - 55%
Jaime Lannister - 40%
Petyr Baelish - 30%
Robert Baratheon - 25%
Joffrey Baratheon - 20%
Khal Drogo - 10%
Besides being surprised that John Snow wasn't higher up the list, I'm pretty happy.
I refuse to believe this many people are as honorable and loyal as Ned Stark. Something's miss here. :colbert:
The test is probably unbalanced in Ned's favour. It seems pretty unbelievable to me, too. :monster:
I meant to type amiss, you ass monkeys.
That's lame. And lame reasoning. And probably fabricated lame reasoning at that.
As a Doctor Who/Sherlock/Orphan Black/Lost fan, I learnt a long time ago never to trust things showrunners tell you in interviews :monster:
Besides, that particular article is only about half of the interview and taken kind of out of context.
Best place for GoT news is winteriscoming.net and yeah, it was Alex Graves who mentioned it before that they were debating about adding it and then that article where the person says something about it but both aren't D & D and they are the ones who decide.
Stop linking spoiler articles guys if you're not gonna tag that it could be a spoiler xP
I couldn't make out the melody. It's like a dying cow lol Hilarious cow
George RR Wonka
Apparently I channel Ned Stark...
http://i.imgur.com/Fdowv2o.png
On a side note 0% Joffery, happy days lol
I got Ned too. It was a close one, though.
Eddard Stark: 60%
Jaimie Lannister: 55%
Daenerys Targaryen: 50%
Tyrion Lannister: 40%
Joffrey Lannister: 35%
Khal Drogo: 30%
Robert Baratheon: 15%
John Snow: 15%
Petyr Baelish: 5%
I was unsure whether to put this in the cute stuff thread or here but:
omg, i wanted to post that vid earlyer but the my browser couldnt get on EOFF a few days :S .. and then i forgot about it
How did you manage that?
Also hell yes, pugs are the best dog breed.
Obviously Ser Pounce recognizes my natural born abilities and intends to offer me a place at court.
....I shared my Game of Thrones review. I got a favorite from an Arya Stark account that way, too. I didn't even know this was a thing. Now I'm seeing a bunch of them when I pull up Twitter. The floodgates have been opened!
A clever ploy.
http://9gag.tv/p/aV7del/game-of-thro...vision#comment
stuff like this reminds me of how stupid acting is :P
most of the time you are in front of a green screen with some props, pretending to be somewhere else xD
I love those videos. It's a good reminder that acting is really just playing pretend.
They're all so cute and excited! I love it! SO excited for the Sand Snakes (although it seems they've unbastardized them?)
EDIT: Okay nevermind on me posting things, the editing keeps messing up xP
Just go here for casting news

On Behalf of Dorne, Sailor Oberyn Will Punish You

That is the great picture ever taken in our history.
He is the most charming man alive.
Casting/Feast for CrowsTrystane Martell is Prince Doran’s son and heir to Dorne.
Arianne? ruh-roh!
Bloopers!! always good

Some speculation on season five casting information (one of my facebook friends said this; I'm not sure if she wants to be identified):
(SPOILER)Quote:
Game of Thrones speculation: Wait what if they're merging Ellaria and Arianne's roles, so it's Ellaria plotting elaborate revenge and they get to keep the actress (whom I love) rather than introducing a new character.
That would make Quentyn the heir to Dorne as the eldest legitimate child of any gender, but Dorne could keep primogeniture and the Myrcella plot still works and it's not a horrible disservice to the awesome female characters. /reading too much into casting information
I sincerely hope this is what they're doing. Anything else would be pretty close to unforgivable.

At this point, I am actually hoping for drastic changes from the novel because the outrage from book readers is just too delicious.
Whether or not we're outraged depends entirely on the quality of the changes. Everyone's been really happy with the changes to Arya's storyline, for example.
Even if the changes are bad, it is hilarious how some people (not particularly members of this forum) overreact to the changes.
lets take a minute to admire my new signature
The greatest disappearing act the world has ever seen.
It's a shame she was burnt at the stake on the following episode :(
Great signature Shai!
It's telling of this show's quality how active this thread remains even between seasons. :D
Something worth pondering: http://litreactor.com/columns/usurpi...artins-dilemma - I also like will.mazgay's comment below.
Great article, actually.
Who was he?! OHMIGOD WHO WAS HE?! :excited:
You silly man, he's the creep who replaced Virgo Hoat who cut off Jaime's hand!
I assumed the joke was that he bears a resemblance to the six-fingered man in The Princess Bride?
I dunno, maybe I'm missing something here.
Noah Taylor wasn't actually in The Princess Bride, I know that much.
The character is Locke. And he replaced Vargo Hoat.
You know nothing, Jon Meow.
Attachment 58965
So, what, do you crazy European type people pronounce meow like "mee-oh"?
In Amurica Meow doesn't rhyme with Snow.
It's not meant as a rhyme!
When I first watched Princess Bride, I was absolutely convinced that the Dread Pirate Roger guy was the same guy who played Chase in House.
Apparently, the fact that he hadn't aged a day over - what, 20 years? - was completely fine with me. xD
THINGS SHOULD RHYME
OLE DOLE DOFF
KINKE LANE KOFF
Also, "miaow" is acceptable. It looks arrogant and obscure (especially if you read it with a French accent), which is appropriate to any cat reference.
Edit, to stay on topic. If Jon Snow is really speculation book spoiler, maybe show spoilerRhaegar's son, does that make him: I don't know if this is a spoiler, I just think it's neat|fire & ice?| :)
I just saw on Facebook that one of my friends had a status message favorited by George R. R. Martin.
SO JEALOUS!
So tell us what the status was, jerkbutt.
