Agreed. Especially the Sigur Ros suggestion, that song is beautiful.

Also, Horses In The Sky by A Silver Mount Zion. The whole album is about how smurfed up the world is, but that there is still hope for the future. Oh, and "13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed" by the same band is one of the most moving pieces of music I've heard.

Whatever version fits you better, but I think Jhonny Cash's version is the perfect song for this situations... specially if you can see the video

Radiohead, Mono, A Silver Mount Zion, Wilco, Ryan Adams, and Smashing Pumpkins all occasionally dip into the genre/situation you speak of.
