Origin of xD

xD Came from the womb of XD. GOSH

I remember for years thing "WTF is XD?" (Looking at it as letters) But seriously, it's XD, not xD.

I saw it frequently used by a Dutch man named Maurice, several years before I arrived here. I didn’t see the lowercase x until at least FFI, though.

Like Miriel said, FFXI. As XD. Shortly after, I joined here and saw Rye type it as xD. I hardly ever use it out of FFXI.

Where did xD come from? I admit it's not a terribly difficult smiley to discover on your own, but I always thought that xD originated at this site. Someone, somewhere, came up with xD first... but like the rest of the smileys, it'd be basically impossible to trace it exactly.
I've read a few law reports from the 1800s that had :] in them. I used to pretend that they were the world's first emoticons...

And also according to Wikipedia, xD is the model of the car, which is awesome but probably not intentionally named after our beloved emoticon.

I first saw it here, used as XD. I started using it like that, but then later on myspace I saw it used as xD, so I started using THAT one.
