Now Disney might not suck anymore!
I'll be watching this. :D I'm glad they're doing some more 2D movies, I always enjoy watching them, even if they're not too great.
Eh, that joke got old years ago. Disney wasn't a Nazi (despite what notorious and hilarious books such as Hollywood's Dark Prince might claim). xD
Anyway, the earlier drafts of Tiana did show more "stereotypical" black features such as bigger lips etc. but these were revised after Disney received complaints from people for alleged racist portrayals of blacks. I don't think that the current look of Tiana is worse: yes, she might look more as if she was a white person who was painted black (if compared to the earlier draft in any case), but I don't think the changes affected the character's spirit (at least judging from the sneak peek). I also recognize features of Mulan from her mannerisms, but that is understandable because both Mulan and Tiana were animated by the same guy, Mark Henn.
By the way, speaking of the animators, this article (it has some spoilers, btw) shows us which talented animators are working on the film, and I have to say that I'm quite impressed, because most of them are top tier animators who have given us many memorable characters in the past. I'm thrilled to see one of my favourites, Andreas Deja (animator of Jafar, Scar and Lilo among other things), among them and I look forward to seeing the results on screen.
This film acts both as an introduction of the first black Disney princess and it also signals the return of traditional animation. However, this is also somewhat problematic. Disney has to make sure to not offend blacks (that's why they're going through all this hyper PC craze; they just can't afford to get bad word-of-mouth at this stage) and they also have to make profit. If the film doesn't turn out to be successful, Disney might assume that the general public isn't interested in seeing traditionally animated films anymore, and this is one of the reasons why many of Disney's top animators are defending the project and pouring their hearts into it in order to make it into a classic. However, the audience might expect too much from the film and hence it could flop (a sad case being Treasure Planet which is a good film but which was shunned by the general public), or the Disney crew might try to turn it into a classic too desperately and hence they could end up with a confusing mess.
I for one am going to see the film, and I'm hoping to see the return of good stories and traditional animation with musical roots. :)
Oh please, you should've seen the anti-Nazi propaganda that Disney cranked out during the second world war! That stuff got banned!
I don't know if Walt was an anti semite or not or if that's just a rumour. I know he was a blatant sexist though.
I am very excited for this movie :snowman:. The racist stuff is very silly. Jasmine was shown forced to bow to and in chains and went all sex object to trick Jafar and nobody said jackabout it. If Jasmine had been black, the universe would have collapsed.
I really hope this movie does well :( I'm going to adopt some children just to force them to see this and make them love it so more movies like this get made.
Personally, I love the name Maddy and she looks super cute! XD
EDIT-BTW, a black friend of mine said he was offended that people are freaking in his own words, "You know, if these people worked so hard to be seen as intelligent and capable human beings, why do they act like a three year old when people are trying to present them as capable and intelligent human beings? I don't get it. I'm pissed at the black people writing this garbage because after they are finally seen as equals NOBODY can please them."
