news is entertainment. world news is so you can lol at other countries' woes or foolishness. Politics is so you can lol at people who think voting matters, and everything else would just bloat the entertainment section to ridiculous proportions (try holding a newspaper with 100+ pages in one batch)

The last thing I heard about on the news was that the world is ending next month.

I stopped paying attention to world events a number of years ago when I realized that being informed doesn't change anything.
