he lies; I still like chinese buffets
Our local/regional buffet is Western Sizzlin'. You can't get the steaks at the buffet like at Golden Corral, but it's ... okay I guess

Sorry, but I am afraid I have to judge you all after this thread. I am disappoint.
The last time I had something at a Chinese buffet, I discovered it's entirely possible to explode from both orifices at the same time.
Shlup, when I return to California, you are taking me places. I beg it of you. A made-to-order sushi buffet sounds like something that would cost £50 over here if it would even be profitable. I'm not sure if Brits love sushi too much (ie are willing to pay through the roof) or not enough (ie just don't pay enough to make the restaurants charge low). But it's not cool, man. :(
I adore a good buffet. Chinese, Thai, even "normal" food. In fact, the best buffet I've been to was one in NZ called Valentines, which had all sorts of everything. I am totally going back there when I return to New Zealand someday because omg yum.
I think we have a few places in Chicago that's $16 (lunch) and $19 (dinner) for all-you-can-eat sushi where you mark on a sheet what you want and it isn't just sitting out. And it's BYOB, which is nice.
I think there used to be a really nice Sushi place in Reading but it closed down iirc. Not certain about that though.
I'm going to bomb your city.
I've never been to a Hometown Buffet, but Golden Corral has all of the usual foods. Fruit, pudding, salads, soups, fried or grilled shrimp/chicken/fish, hamburgers, spaghetti, pancakes, yogurt, etc.
We don't take my cousin anymore though. She will fill her plate with a certain food, eat a bite, find out she doesn't like it, and then grab another plate and fill it with that same food and not eat it. She's a food hoarder. Normal people will eat and eat and eat, or stop eating because they find out they weren't all that hungry after all, but I don't know, I guess food is just decoration to her. After I moved out of the house she got my old room all moldy :stare:
Rant/story activate. There was a sushi buffet/mark what you want type place where I used to live. Around 19$ for dinner. Good stuff, but with a catch. If you ordered a roll and didn't finish it, it was 1.00 extra on your bill. Waste not, want not. So if you order 5 rolls and couldn't finish two of the rolls, you owed two more dollars.
I started off with 4 rolls, they were delicious, and decided I had room for one more roll. I wasn't paying attention and reused my old order sheet. The sushi chef didn't notice either, and made 5 rolls instead of just one. My fault, but smurf me that was a lot of sushi. I was poor, so I didn't want to pay another extra 4-5 dollars. I wound up eating somewhere around 45-55 pieces of sushi. It might not sound like much to some of you, but I was miserable for hours. Wasted on sushi. /rant.
Haha...my friends and I are guilty of always ordering too much sushi at all-you-can-eats. And like you, we'll stuff ourselves just so we don't have to pay the extra $1/piece. My friend tries to get creative and hide the rice in the wasabi... :kaolaugh: One time my friend marked two "I"s for nigiri pieces...he meant 2 as in 2 tally marks, but they gave him 11 pieces of just that one kind of nigiri.
I'm always in pain after sushi buffets...but now I've found this great place that is actually a fish market for restaurants, but they do take-out sushi as their side business. The rolls are pretty cheap and a lot of their nigiri pieces are $1 each! And their quality is so much better than sushi buffets...they give you pretty big pieces of fish instead of small slivers.
The only buffet I've ever been to is Emerald's Chinese Buffet, the food's ok, but getting around the place is a pain in the arse. Especially when the place is packed. The tables are far to close to one another. But the service is great and like i said the food's Ok :p
