Probably FFVI.
Final Fantasy X.
Baldur's Gate (I and II). I was hyped for this game beyond anything before or since, and it still exceeded my expectations. I put hundreds of hours into these games back in the day.
So far as favorite JRPG, probably Chrono Trigger.
Legend of Mana, hands down, followed by Secret of Mana and its sequel. After that, CT and FF6 I suppose.
On the PC, Baldur's Gate is a serious contender, and BG2 and Icewind Dale too, but hey, there's WoW, which totally sucked more hours than all other games combined.
Turn-based combat does not make an RPG. Chess and Magic: the Gathering, which have turn-based combat, are clearly not RPGs, while games like World of Warcraft and Secret of Mana are.
Now that that was settled several posts ago, my answer is clearly Super Mario RPG.
You're asking me to pick my favorite child. This is unacceptable.
.....probably Chrono Trigger >.>
Final Fantasy VII. It;s my favourite game of all time, let alone RPG.
Crisis core, P4, and Disgaea 3
Pretty much any that isn't a strategy-RPG. I'm not fond of those.
Tomb Raider is not an RPG.
Fallout is, was, and will always be an RPG. A damn fine one. The new shooter elements are unnecessary, but Falout 3/New Vegas can be downright turn-based with the VATS mode. Being turn-based doesn't make a game an RPG, but the mechanics that determine the pace of the turns are a sure sign of an RPG.
FF IX, Xenosaga, P3, and at the top P4. Of course a lot of you probably know this. ;P
I'm prepared for lots of heckling for my choices of FFVII and TES Oblivion.
