With the project being revealed in 2006, giving Tabata another 2 years wouldn't have happened. I get that there was a change in engines, scope, and systems to keep it brief. Going beyond a 10 year time period without a full game to show would have killed interest more significantly than I can imagine. Now if the reveal hadn't been announced until say....2010, then yea 2 more years would have worked out better in that scenario.
Nomura was getting spread too thin between giant projects. A good number of people have been waiting on KHIII as well.
Yeah I understand why SE had to take Nomura off of the project. He only had something like 25% of the game finished in 7-8 years of development. They didn't want to keep putting off the FF7 Remake or Kingdom Hearts III so they had to pull him out of XV. It makes sense for them as a business to do that.
Still, I wish Nomura got to realize his vision. His plans for XV were massive. It would have certainly dethroned VII as the best Final Fantasy had he been able to complete the project. So many awesome story elements, twists, and an overall darker theme would have made for an incredible and groundbreaking game.
XV is just such a weird game. All I can ever think about is what it could have been. What it should have been.
