"The teaser is kind of a tonal preview instead of a content preview. It’s also not showing off all the gameplay pillars we’re going to have. It’s focusing on up front to the key pillars, which are fear, horror, and exploration of an environment. The other key pillars of Resident Evil – puzzle solving, resource management, and combat – they're coming down the line. They’re all in there, but we’re focusing on 'horror has come home' as a kind of theme for the teaser demo. So if you thought the games were going away from horror in previous years, this is just a statement of intent, purpose, to say it’s back."
"The demo is not actually a slice from the game. It’s not the opening sequence of the game or anything like that."
"We wanted to focus on what concepts we wanted players to focus on in the game, and that’s obviously horror. So this is a tonal preview of what to expect from the game rather than a little bit of game content you’re getting in advance."
So, it's as I hoped.

It isn't a reboot. It's set after Resident Evil 6 and ties into the story/world, but features an entirely new cast of characters.
New characters used to help with the horror. "One of the places we got to in the series until now is that you’re playing these superhero characters…to bring horror experience right to the player…can’t be seeing through a macho hero character"
Herbs return as your only source of health regen. Combining/mixing, etc.
Stronger, but fewer, enemies. "One thing I can say is it’s not going to be some kind of zombie horror where you have to mow down zombies"
Inventory system is a mix between traditional Resident Evil and Resi 4's Attache case.
It was first-person before VR. "If you want people to experience horror, and you want it in the most direct and visceral way possible, you know putting yourself in the position to see what the character sees is the best possible way to do that."
Resident Evil 1 REmake is the main inspiration.
Citing REmake as the main inspiration gives me hope. Also:
