when picking a job, really consider what you want to do all the time. Pal/war will definately be a tank, taking all the hits and will be good at it. Why war/sum is so bad is because it does not specialize in one area - as a warrior you belong in the frey and as a summoner you should be in the background, not a good compliment to each other. Think if you want to pull, to tank or to support and go from there but the best thing is you can always change it! lol
WAR/SMN not only doesnt specialize as it is(WAR is very versitile as it is), it doesnt have ANY real practical purpose. You get mediocore MP, your summons are half their strength, and with the MP you summon them out with your almost out hence they will soon be gone(they consume MP to keep out along with a cost of MP to summon). Therefore they wont attack right(miss mostly, even with hit its weak), and you are unable to use any of their special strengths.
A WAR/PLD is subpar, why be that? Your MP is low as a PLD compared to mages and if you sub it, its real less than it should. Hence why WAR/PLD is just a wannabe PLD like WAR/WHM cept worst in some cases.
MNK armour is also not as widely used hence why its limited and hard to sell back. Also once you see Ochite Kote(sp) which is a gear a MNK must need, its nothing to laugh about the cost.Quote:
MNK armor is cheaper than Warrior armor, that is a fact. I do have the gil to throw away on Tropical Punches (at least I did), I have connections. Tropical Punches is insane, I take advantage of high level things that specialize in agility (Goblin Ambushers and such), because Tropical Punches dramatically increases my hit rate.
NINs are situational, things like mandragoras or things that hit twice are bad for them, they also need to be very gil spendy to keep hate alone, else bring a THF. But in situations they do work, they do it much better than PLDs(assuming skill levels are about the same).Quote:
In Garliage Citadel I played with a Paladin and then a Ninja. Both were designated tanks and more often then not the Ninja could not hold the hate for the damage dealers, where as the Paladin had little trouble. Of course that doesn't account for every Paladin or Ninja, we could of just had a bad one.
Theres no real great sub for RDM but BLM is the standard sub. Every sub is situational, so i recommend lvling WHM, BLM and SMN for the situation. In exp parties though, normally you shouldnt use a sword and should focus on wands for the stat boost. Solo play however, Swords are great.Quote:
I'm aiming for Red Mage / Summoner, which is a good combination if you still want to be able to use a sword.
Based only on extra spells, I'd say WHM is better. Subbing BLM gets you a few utility spells and AoE nukes, but subbing WHM gets you status heals and the more important AoE cures and buffs. Kickbacks for subbing WHM also start earlier, with Poisona at 12 and Protect at 14.
In the endgame, WHM favors more HP over more MP, and higher STR, VIT, and MND over more INT. At that level, MP and INT are far more important that HP, STR, VIT, and MND, so BLM wins. For some reason, WHM gives worse stat bonuses from levels 1-19, when you'll be doing the most melee, so the WHM leanings toward the important melee stats don't even help you then. For stat bonuses, BLM is the better sub.
RDMs already get Magic Attack Bonus 1&2 , Magic Defense Bonus 1&2, and Clear Mind, so the choice is down to Conserve MP (BLM) and Auto Regen (WHM). Conserve MP is obviously better, since if you're doing your job right you'll be casting spells far more often than taking hits.
So far, SMN only gives you a marginally bigger MP boost(not important unless your MP and HP pool isnt in ratio for Convert) and Auto-Refresh, which isnt as important once you get your Refresh Cycle down.
A WAR/THF is very davestating, you put the THF too low in this. At lvl 30 they can multiply their WS dmg with Sneak Attack, and hence with that create a bigger Skillchain dmg and hence open up to more powerful Magic bursts, and with Trick attack at lvl 60 you cant lose.Quote:
Warrior/Paladin: Great tank, wonderful defense, but limited in magic.
Warrior/Thief: Gil maker but not reliable
Paladin/Warrior: Monster won't do much damage
Dark Knight/Warrior: Damaging
Monk/Warrior: As I said, good for frontline damage dealing.
WAR/PLD is trout like i said, if you tank, do it right, be WAR/THFor MNK and do PLD/WAR or NIN/WAR.
I disagree with the MNK/SAM, when you get Kick, you will be able to hit two to three times enough times to gain the necessary TP. SAM is useless til lvl 60 with Mediate which when subbed, only gives 60 TP and thats it. So you say you can spam more WS? What good will that do? It will mess up Skillchain which can open up more dmg and Magic Bursts and do way more dmg than any of your WS individualy by a mile. Done right a MNK will grow only a bit slower in a SAM TP gainage. Spamming WS is really something alot of people hate unless your SAM and done right.Quote:
I'm a Elvaan Monk, I'm going to do Monk/Samurai, which is all about the TP. You could also do Monk/Warrior, which would have 2 ways to stop attacks and 2 ways to add on attacks when you think about it... I personally don't like warriors, they're all about Gil to update armor and weapons. I don't have much Gil, it almost broke me trying to get Tropical Punches...
Whereas WAR will give you Provoke for situations, Beserk, Double Attack, Warcry, and Passive DEF, that alone already beats just the single power of mediate(Store TP doesnt do alot, just 1 more % of TP per hit).
WARs are reletively cheap compared to PLD,NIN,RNG,Mages, and etc. After lvl 30, every 5 lvls of armour is fine, whereas PLD keep having to buy em, and your weapon is what counts a bit more since PLDs outdo WAR in tanking and your only tanking if your really good or else your a WAR/NIN.
Also if you dont have gil, its your job to farm for it, no excuses usually.
I am an Elvaan that started in Bastok, if I go to San D' Oria or whatever can I treat it as a home town and do the quests?
You can do the quests without changing loyalty, actually. You can do the missions if you change loyalty (Expect about 8k for the bill to change loyalty), but you won't get the San d'Orian ring.
Yes you can get the ring in Bastok, go to Sandy Consulate and be ahead of Sandy, if your Rank 3 you can purchase it with conquest points x2 for it.
The price of changing depends on the current nation's standing, the lower the standing the lower the price. You lose all CP and rank and start from 1 in the new nation, but if you ever change back you regain it all. Hence rank and CP are determined by nation.
