No. He's been Solid Snake from the very first game. The title "Metal Gear Solid" was derived from (among other things) Snake's name, not the other way around.
no..........first game is metal gear back on the NES his name was snake.......then in metal gear solid like 2 or 3 games later he got the name solid snake
Well thats strange considering it was the title of the second game.

The original Metal Gear was on the MSX, although it was later--very shoddily--ported to the NES. And yes, his name was Solid Snake.
