If you pay even the slightest attention to this movie, you realise that it's tremendously respectful toward God and Christ. Both are treated with the reverence that they are afforded by Christianity. The only thing this movie criticises is the tendency of some churches to forget about their roots, getting mired in ritual and dogma rather than remaining true to their purpose. It's sarcastic but constructive criticism of what some denominations are at risk of becoming.
I'm not Christian, but I appreciate and enjoy this movie in a lot of ways.
