Nope, katanas were made as a speedy quick slash weapon. British swords were designed to be more versitile, and had two sharp sides. Ninjas had the shorter bretheren and would hold the katana lengthwise at thier foe, to make the foe think they had a longer blade that what they really had.Quote:

The curve in the katana was dull so that users could use thier hand to force the blade into thier enemies flesh with out a full swing. Used mainly for the stealth kill. :D

Yeah. A katana is designed for the quick kill. In fact, there is an entire stance in kenjutsu devoted to the art of striking an opponent as the sword is drawn (popularised by Rurouni Kenshin) called Battojutsu or Iaijatsu. The idea behind it is to reduce air resistance by drawing from the sheath creating a vacuum, allowing the blade to move at 2-3 times normal speed.
The Masamune would be too slow to kill anything outside of the video game world.
I don't know much about ninja's but I'm sure that their weapon of choice would have varied with personal preference. It's not as if there was a law stating that a ninja HAD to use a katana. In fact, the ninja with kunai is probably more stereotypically recognisable than one with katana.Quote:

Another note on ninja weapons. If my weapon history is not failing me completely, the blade of a ninja was straight, unlike the curved blade of the katana. This is because a ninja's blade (or, more specifically, his sheath) was used as far more than just melee combat. I'll look it up before posting more, but I'm fairly sure of this.
Hey, I just notice when someone takes their sword out (Like Cloud), they...well lets call it "pretend" to pull it out of his back, and bingo! its in his hands! Sephiroth...well he kinda just pulls it out of his side, like hes pulling it out of his pocket. So maybe, hes a majician cause I have no idea how he call pull a sword that big out of his pocket, dude.
I think the masumane is found in wutai in a shrine when it gets attacked by soldier. you know the big war cloud misses. and if you look cloud puts the buster sword on his back when casting magic so it must have a collar. same with seph but at the side
