You can't stock 100 of every type of magic. You can only stock 32 different spells. There is much more than 32 spells that can be drawn, so you have to be careful what you draw, and you should only draw the magic that you absolutely need. Because those slots fill up quickly.

I like FFVIII just as much as VII, & VIII was the first FF game that I played. I think it is a great game, & equals up to VII in terms of how hard the game is to complete.

I don't mind the juntioning system, but after a while it gets a bit annoying. Could have just stuck with the norm...

I hate the fact that you have to wait until near enough the end of the game before you can level up until you have all the GFs. Otherwise you're stats will get messed up & you'll be weak, which in the long run means you really aren't going to win the final battle.

ffviii is my first final fantasy game and my first RPG game. I loved it. I played it many times through and spent a long time on it because i'm fascinated by what each character might say. The junction system never bothered me even when i didn't get it because it seemed cool and i got it after my second time playing the game and the junction system became more useful than i thought and it's easily the best thing ever for me at taht time.

this forum has many ffviii lovers. If you want to see ffviii haters, go to adventchildren.com...that place has lots of ffviii haters, it's sad:eep:

Noes! The Junctioning system and magic are what makes FF8 so unique and different. If it wasn't for that, then it would be just about like any other FF. It's such a relief not having to fuss about MP and learning other magic and abilities. It gives you more time to enjoy the storyline. At the beginning of the game, the GF's abilities take awhile to learn, but once you are mobile you can just go over to Centra and fight Cactaurs. You can easily get 500 AP in just a couple minutes.

You characters will be far from weak without stat boosting if they have the proper magic junctioned. Ultimecia is perfectly easy without doing it. Stat boosting just makes her even more of a pushover. You could do the whole game without boosting, and probably even take down Omega. It just makes your characters even more badass and unstoppable. It is no where near required to beat the final bosses, though.

I think square made the junctioning system far too difficult to get into for the average gamer. I know that on my first two plays through I just hit auto-attack for the set up. Was only after I spent an hour or two one day reading a junction guide that I started to understand it. After that it was one of the most fun magic systems in an FF game. But you can see how some people didn't have the time for it with the release of FFIX which had a pretty much idiot-proof system.

I am not sure where you guys are getting this whole thing where the main reason people don't like ff8 is because of the junctioning system.

In all honesty the junctioning system doesn't have a thing to do with it. The main reason people do not like ff8 is because of the poor character development and the fact that only two people in the entire game really matter at all. Everyone else is pretty much just there to fill in gaps in the party.

The only reason people bring up the junctioning system is because they do not want to take the time to learn it because they have no interest in the characters they are playing with. If the characters were actually interesting people would take the time to learn the junctioning system and it wouldn't bother them.

I know the whole poor character development thing has been said over and over again and even the ff8 fans admit the development was pretty weak in many areas.

But the gripes about the junctioning system is a direct result of the characters in the game that just aren't that interesting. And the uninteresting characters is the main reason why alot of folks don't like 8.

That's pure opinion, though; I played it, and loved the characters. There was a lot to them, and a lot of subtle development, even if it might have been better had they been given more. To say that only two characters mattered is to show that a person didn't care enough to /look/ at the others--which is fine, different things for different people, but.

Most of the people who didn't like FF8 just didn't like it because it wasn't their kind of game.

Well from alot of discussions about the game on boards like these that seems to be the opinion of alot of folks.

I was put ON by the junctioning system. Dunno why, maybe I just wanted to see all the coloured numbers.

sorry but that doesnt mean he is definetly being arrogant when i read it i thought lol.

any way i love ff8 ithink its one of the best if not THE BEST however when poeple say the junctioning system is flawed i get a bit irritated. cos i love the system now that im old enough to understand it (when i bought the game i was a 10 year old and REALLY IMPATIANT).

Are you suggesting that FFVIII's character development is worse than VII's? FFVII has the same problem you just pointed out with VIII. And that is that the majority of the characters are irelivent to the plot. You wanna explain to me how Yuffie, Cid, Cait sith or redxiii have anything to do with the plot after their initial introductions? Most of the side characters developments comes from sidequests and requires you to do the work to develop their character

No, VII's development is many times better than VIII's is.

In VII you get a rather lengthy and detailed backstory on each main character (and even a few non playable characters).

In VIII all you really find out about characters other than Squall and Rinoa is that they ended up being in the same orphanage together (which is an absolutely ridiculous plot point. And just confimed many people's opinions about 8 not being an interesting game).


And if you say you have to develop the other characters through sidequests well then that brings up one very big point.

If you have to develop the characters through sidequests than there must not be much development there (those are the types of things you do for Yuffie or Vincent who are two completely optional characters . Not for characters like Zell or Quistis who were there from the very beginning of the game practically.

Most people if they do not enjoy the characters they will not enjoy the game. And in order to enjoy them you need to learn things about them. So you shouldn't make getting to know the main characters an optional part of the game.

That is why ff8 is overall one of the least liked games in the final fantasy series. Because there just wasn't a whole lot to many of the characters.
