Yep, as mentioned earlier, "Eyes on Final Fantasy" is a pretty bad example since it starts with a vowel either way. However, I always put AN in front of all abbreviations. I can't think of an exception.
Its all based on sound, you dont say an Europe *insert thing here* and thats becuase of the sound of the Eu sounding like a y.
I'd talk about the content of the thread, so I'd say neither. For example...
"You know, that EoFF thread that states Ken is a ponce."
Well, according to English pronounciation rules:

...because saying "a ef-ef thread" feels very, very stiff. :D
