Panties. When I think of "knickers" I think of granny panties for some reason.
I say underwear.
I usually call my underwear, "underwear". But sometimes I call them "knickers" or "knick knacks". But never panties. Panties will never be knickers to me. Panties are people/animals that are panting, do pant, etc. That is what panties means to me.You should say: "hey hun get those knick knacks off", instead.Quote:

Panties... Knickers sounds just as wrong as calling a female a "bird".
I'm with my old friend Reles on this one (we go way back). “Knickers” makes me think of the undergarments grannies would wear. Not that I wear panties, or indeed take them off my neighbour's washing line. Knickers is a really stupid word if you say it too many times in a row. I guess panties probably is too, but knickers definitely gets stupider quick. Or is that stupid quicker? Whatever. It's actually starting to make me think of dickety-two now, which makes me think of Abe Simpson. Abe Simpson wears the male equivalent of knickers, and he keeps his name on them. He can also take them off without removing his pants! Funnily enough, the episode that I am referring to was actually on today AND I have already referenced it once today (in this thread). Anyway, if I go any further than this I'm going to derail; so, in conclusion, I choose panties.
underpants for a dude underwear for a chick...thats jus how i say it....
Neither is a satisfactory term. "Undergarments" is the way to go.
Panties, baby ;)
I really hate some words, and panties is one of those words. But knickers just doesn't sit right, either. I typically say underpant/things, or I make up obscene hilarious words or phrases for them.
Either word is fine, but the best way to describe them is missing.
I like the word knickers now and here is why.
A female freind of mine has a dog named Nick. Not bad, however, everyone in my area seems to like to throw "ers" onto the end of thier pets names when playing with them. So in agility training she calls her dog Nickers. Anyways she didn't realize that knickers was another word for underwear. Thus I used to sing-song, "I see your knickers!". And she would respond, "so". The agility instructors, btw, are british so they had to do a double take when they heard that exchange. And it is now a long running joke(she had at that point addressed the dog as knickers for so long that it was both habbit and the dogs call name, so too late to change it :P).
Skivvies!
Err... panties.
I use both.
