Does it have anything to do with the Deep Sea Research Center (DSRC not being the answer itself)? It's mostly located under the sea, and I suppose the flashing of the blue light which you have to watch in the first room could be interpreted as "ripples".

No, it does not have to do with anything involving the Deep Sea Research Center. When I say sea I'm not referring to a sea of water. That might help a bit.

Hmm, Oilboyle? I'm not sure if they cause ripples before "pouncing up" from the oil, but I think they might. Also, they're more of the "crawling" type that you mention.
