Sinter lives mainly in Spain snd ventures to Holland once a year (November) by boat. December 5th is the "special day" when Sinter and his side kick Zwerte Pete (AKA Black Pete) go from roof top to roof top. It is Zwerte Pete however who does all the dirty work; cluimbing down the chimneys (thus Zwerte) and delivering presents into wooden shoes.
There's a dirty rumour that if you're a bad child you're taken back to Sinter's boat to be a slave.

Sinter Klaus then spread through out Western Europe and was adapted by Christians and merged together with Good Saint Nicholais. Reindeer. Elf Slavery instead of Child Slavery... (Or maybe that's the cover up). And now Santa places presents in stockings (later trees).

Here's what I think about Santa: he's a cruel creation. As soon as the kiddies find out he doesn't exist (which happened early for me, in Grade 1, when my jerk of a classmate - the same guy who told me about sex at around the same time - told me) it just upsets them.
Why lie, and create something that in the end can be quite upsetting for young children? I think it's a pretty pointless charade. Personally, when I'm a father, my family will celebrate Christmas, but I'll find a way to aviod Santa with my kids without making them ruin it for other children who actually do believe in him.
