Interesting and somewhat distressing to note though it that the release date has been set to "TBD" in the sidebar on the Main page, as opposed to the formerly confirmed Dec. 3.
DO NOT WANT.
I dislike Sonic intensley. He's a poo poo.
It's coming out in January in Japan now, supposedly, but I haven't heard anything definitively stating that it would or would not stick to the December release in the US.
I want tails to be in as well. :p
The veterans that I really want to come back are Luigi, Ness, Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon (no Falcon Punch = no Super Smash Bros. Game. Besides, the four of them were in all the SSB games), Marth (He's my best character and in my opinion the coolest looking SSBM character), Roy (We can't get rid of him. Otherwise, all the playable Fire Emblem character will be blue headed.), Falco (Looks cool even though I don't use him much), Pichu (I actually use him just for his taunt), Ganondorf (one of the few villain characters in SSBM), and Mr. Game and Watch (he's like the root of Nintendo).
That's an optimistic way to look at it. Maybe I'll do the same with Snake as well...
They are good characters. Don't get me wrong there. But they don't really fit well with Mario, Kirby, and the other Nintendo characters. I'm also worried that eventually no one will use the Nintendo characters in SSB anymore if this keeps up.
The Release date for Brawl being TBD instead of Dec. 3 also worries me Rase.
I've been in the shadows about this...but Sonic before Luigi!?Quote:
Luigi
Sonic in Brawl?! Hell yes!
I thought they wouldn´t do it because of the upcoming Olympics game. I guess I was wrong.
I rewatched part of the Sonic video several times because I thought I saw Amy. It was probably just Peach, though. xD
If Nintendo's official forums were still online, they wouldn't be after this update.
Ooooh, they even played the kewl theme song from Sonic 2 Adventure Battle :333
The reason they were showing Sonic now is because Nintendo had a press event in Japan on Wednesday, where they revealed Sonic (and the new Japanese release date, and a whole bunch of other Nintendo game stuff). So instead of just having that news float over to the west, they just put it up as an official announcement--complete with the video of it that they showed during the press event.
As far as US details go, there is a Nintendo Press Event in the US *today*, so there's a pretty decent chance we'll be getting information on the release date.
Feb. 10th. =\
It took me a whole hour to believe they finally put sonic in. I want knuckles or tails in too. So I can have Sonic and tails/knuckles against mario and luigi.
February 10th...damn!
Damn, the more they put the more it gets pushed further back :(. Well at least the additions will be great. Sonic, knew he was going to come by popular demand.
I never used the Snapshot Mode in Melee, so the fact that you can take pictures at anytime just by pausing is pretty awesome in my book.
I'm actually kind of relieved this was pushed back. Largely disappointed, but still relieved.
For you sane people who have a 1 or 2 console focus this is a much bigger deal, but for idiots like me with every breathing system under the sun, this last part of the year is just packed with great games. This is one thing that will ease my wallet just a little bit more.
Is anyone planning to go to E for All to play it?
I'm glad they pushed back the release date. I've seen too many games that had so much potential but released too early when they could have taken the time to perfect it. Good examples are many pro sports games and movie games specifically Transformers.
As for Sonic, I think this marks a significant point in history that many fans have dreamed would happen. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games will be the official intersection of the franchises but this is a great start.
:)
Well, I'm definitely liking the Announcer. He reminds me of Guilty Gear.
Rawr.
Edit: Better yet, Here's a gooderer version of it.
Snapshot mode has now gone from practically useless to interesting and great.
The first in-game non-trailer I've seen.
OMG I want! ;___;
IGN has some videos of them playing the demo up, but the quality isn't too amazing. They figured they should have the controller be visible as well. :X
Sonic in Smash Brawl means my girlfriend will buy it. Very awesome. :D
I've seen a lot of videos of that demo over the last day or two, and this is what I know.
-Jill from Drill Dozer and Little Mac from Punch Out! are assist trophies.
-Gardevoir is in a ball, and uses barriers to block projectiles.
-Meta Knight's voice is awesome.
-Ike is a powermonger.
-Peach's Final Smash involves dancing in the center, damaging everybody onscreen and putting them to sleep, while dropping peaches (surprise, surprise) to heal.
-Meta Knight's Final Smash requires a bit of accuracy to pull off, and he makes the screen blacken, and then slashes through it and damages anybody nearby.
-Ike's Final Smash involves electricity, but I've yet to see what it actually looks like.
When Ike was first announced, I expected his Final Smash to be Aether, but apparently not as that's just a special move he has. Still looks pretty cool and he's definitely a character I'm looking forward to using.
Also: new stage: New Pork City.
Wow. New Pork City looks like a confusing yet fun level. It's really hard to tell the difference between plaforms and the background.
Hopefully it'll be more obvious when you're actually playing the stage. Otherwise I'll probably be killing myself repeatedly from thinking that some things are platforms when they actually aren't.
Welcome zeh new rainbow road?
Pork City looks kinda fun ^-^!
The new sandbag modes look awesome.
The shield should mean that Yoshi will no longer be the sandbag king.
Push Sandbag into the shield, then use Meta Knight's mach speed sword. Fun.
I can't wait just for the sake of Pit. (*die-hard Kid Icarus fan (buy it on the virtual console!)*)
Meowth as a Pokeball Pokemon, and the control scheme for just using the Wii Remote are now up.
Here's a Final Smash Compilation. Try to ignore the annoying girls.
Ike's Final Smash definitely reminds me of Omnislash.
It knocks him into the air, but just look at the ending! The pause, and his sword lifted high, preparing to strike.
Maybe a combination of the two.
Little Mac, more and more Assistance <3
and, how very creepy does Peach's final smash look :(?
It's all the PINK! (imo)
Thanks for the link!!
Too bad the Ice Climbers and Lucas weren't playable in the demos yet. I'd really want to see their Final Smashes. It'd be cool if the Ice Climbers rode on the condor and got it to shoot out icy breath for their Final Smashes.
Also, for some really strange reason I think if Marth makes it in Brawl his Final Smash would be turning into Anri and going all crazy with the Falchion.
The immediate reaction I had when Ike was revealed was that they'd combine elements of Roy and Marth together into Ike, meaning there'd be no need for them. I hope they do include them because I certainly found them to be amongst the two characters I used the most and most people I've spoken to did enjoy using them. It's funny actually, as when I unlocked Marth originally, I had no idea what Fire Emblem was, yet x amount of years down the line I'm a fairly big fan of the series.
I'm not so sure. Those two attacks are pretty much the only similarities between Ike and Marth/Roy. Everything else is entirely different from what I've seen, even the A attacks. Also, while the Fire Emblem stage is meant to be anonymous, it does take an element from Marth's games, the Red Flag with the Dragon. And also, including Marth will offer some cheap advertisement at this, which as seen here, includes Marth in the game, most likely as the main character.
They said there would be no more clones, so I would love to play as either of them AND that means Luigi gets his own moveset.
no but I have this article: Nintendo World Report - Wii Impressions: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
excerpt
THE JACKELQuote:
Ike from Fire Emblem plays something like a combination of Roy and Marth from Melee, but is more of a power character. He has some speedy attacks, but for the most part he'll try to club you with his big sword. His special move set is very recognizable, and it includes the combo and counter moves. The Up special is a little different—he throws his sword up into the air, jumps at it, grabs it, and slams downward--but people familiar with the Fire Emblem characters in Melee will need little time to adjust to Ike's style of play.
That's still not convincing me that Marth's not in Brawl. Removing Marth from Super Smash Bros. Brawl is almost as bad as removing Ness (not because Ness was in all of the Super Smash Bros. games). Even if Marth and Ness haven't been in any new games recently (besides Marth's Fire Emblem DS Game) they're the first and central characters to their series. If either of them were removed their game series would be badly represented.
Also, Marth's Fire Emblem game being remade for the DS practically confirms Marth making it in. Ike having Marth and Roy's moves don't necessarily confirm that they're not making it in.
I wouldn't get your hopes too high. Not because I think Marth not make it in (but I do think he will), but because there's still a possibility that he won't.
Didn't they say at one point all the Characters from the Original Smash Bro's would still be there, meaning we will still have Ness?
I could be imagining this though, wouldn't be the first time it happened.
Wow a pictochat arena.
xD, Are there going to be any more stages with just standard non-changing areas we can pwn on?
It's probably too much to ask, but it would be awesome if one with a DS could actually link up and alter the Pictochat stage.
That would be fun to have your Mii as an Assist Trophy
The PictoChat arena sure looks like fun. It'll probably be the least predictable stage. And demondude55 does have a point about not letting you actually alter the stage with a DS. If only they could censor out sick pictures people draw somehow.
I'll be okay whether Miis make it as playable characters or as an Assist Trophy. I'm hoping that Mach Rider will be an Assist Trophy as well.
Speaking of playable characters, I'm really hoping they update one soon.
Yeah, it's most likely tomorrow or Wednesday. I hope it'll be a new character, preferably a third party character (Go Mega Man!)
A new donkey kong movie is up.
The movie didn't really explain much either.
Not really. This gives Diddy and Donkey reason to be pissed at Bowser. But, since Bowser doesn't actually have any introduction to the battle, it doesn't explain how the two apes get involved. At least Snake was going after Mario, and Mario is already involved in the conflict.
The target test looks cool.
And the replay will be undeniably awesome.
So there's 5 Target Tests for each character?
If what that one article says is true (there'd be no more than 50 characters) then that's a lot of Target Test Stages to do (250).
I hope you don't have to unlock that much stuff through Target Test Stages if that's the case.
I think it might be five target tests total, with each one being playable by every character. That's a little disappointing, since I enjoyed having each map tailored to a character's special abilities in SSBM, but I suppose there'll at least be a wide variety of ways to tackle each test.
KOREJHJHPIEJWBPIOHRLBNE:LKBNLRKHNRL
DEDEDE! WIN!
so there are now 3 playable characters from Kirby's world
THE JACKEL
This makes 23 Characters thus far, and still no Captain Falcon. >_>
Gotta love that penguin thing.
Also kirbys move where he eats the opponent and gains their abilities is still in if you look at the fourth screnshot.
They really couldn't get rid of that move and have Kirby in the game. Kind of central to his whole character.
Wondering what Kirby's ->+B will be now, as DeeDee is wielding his hammer this time around.
Maybe kirby can use the copied characters left/right moves as well now.
Whats wrong with 2 hammers?
My thinking is, unless I'm mistaken Kirby is in fact using DeeDee's hammer in Melee. I don't see how two characters can use the same hammer, but meh.
They could give Kirby a different move besides the hammer, which wasn't terribly exciting anyway. Kirby has a huge amount of powers to draw upon, there are plenty that can be used. They could make the fire move standard for him, for example.
Kirby could also get that hammer from the Thug looking guy. But, it doesn't really matter. DeDeDe ALWAYS uses his hammer, while Kirby only has two or so moves revolving around hammer usage. I don't think they'll change those two moves just to avoid clonage.
Yay! King Dedede!! We finally have a character update after 2 weeks!! They also finally show Kirby with a character's hat.
I really hope they also add Gooey. He's the only true partner Kirby had.
We don't know for sure if King Dedede's side B will use his hammer so Kirby will probably be keeping his side B move.
Hooray for Dedede!
I was wondering, does anyone think King Dedede's Final Smash will be that gross yet cool looking chewing up attack that he has in Kirby's Dream Land 3? (The one where the zig zag pattern on his chest opens up and turns into teeth)
Oooh Dedede...Final Smash will probably be funny lol.
Woah, look at the voices Alesia Glidewell is doing for this game!
:O
Dededes special moves are up!
well if Krystal is in the game, and they bring Falco back with a new moveset, it'll be another game with 3 characters from it. But Krystal could just be an assist trophy that yells something when she appears or what not. Who knows what it really means! I suspect if she is a character, she'll have the staff from Starfox Adventure
THE JACKEL
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
WIN! SO. MUCH. WIN.
Ho. Ly. Eff.
I agree with the two above posts.
Bloody well worth waiting 'til February for. Elebits had something like this, but it was limited to only sending to other players, not a daily download thing sent by Nintendo.
Game of the year. Game of any year.
OMIFIGAH!
Nice.
create your own stages? Uhm amazing
THE JACKEL
Best game ever?
Oh yes.
This is so clutch. <3
first stage I'm making is a big box to fight inside of. I always thought it was funny when people blew up on screen, and that way, it'll be the only way they can die! Plus it'll just be fun for my friends that will be suck compared to me, and just want to beat each other up, as opposed to get their azzes beat over and over lol. My friend and I loved designing maps in TimeSplitters... I'm going to spend so much time making stages for this game.
THE JACKEL
I love nintendo.
Totally worth the wait. Completely!

Screw the rest of the updates, this one is the best one yet!
My God that looks like it'll be so fun to use.
That makes 2 games I would slaughter an entire nation for.
This was something I was wishing for since the first Smash was released:)
Classic Mode, huh? I like what they're doing with it. Instead of having a set stage and character like in 64, it's themed towards a specific series.
Nice.
I like this new approach.
:]
So are each of the stages going to be random with whether it's a Giant, Team, Allied, or Regular Battle? I don't think they'd make battles from the Kirby series always Giant Battles.
Also, are they going to combine the Ice Climbers, Kid Icarus, and other retro series for Classic Mode?
How neat is the new Ice Climber stage ^^?
A lot of these new stages appear to be made of pure joy. And as an added bonus, they'll piss off the "1v1 no items Final Destination" crowd, which is always a plus :D
I'm not sure I've known anyone who played Melee with items since 9th grade. :p And the less active stages were usually the best to fight on imo. But with the level editor and final smashes, assist trophies, etc., at least they're giving us tons of choices. Everybody can find their balance.
Like Azar, I don't really know anybody who actually plays with items, and I've even got random on Melee set so that it only plays tournament approved levels.
I like the new Ice Climbers level. I like how they added the vegetables from the Ice Climber game and how they also added the Balloon Fighter fish.
You can also make your own Final Destination as well which'll save you the trouble of going through so much to try to unlock it.
Of course, I'll still try to unlock the real Final Destination. The backgrounds and the music in that level are really awesome and I wouldn't want to miss out on it.
not to mention, typically if you play the game enough you'll unlock everything. They don't exactly make it hard to unlock things in smash bros. And with all these character announcements, it makes me wonder if there will be any secret characters.... hmmm....
THE JACKEL
I just watched the first trailer and when kirby was fighting on the halberd I swear he pulled out his hammer.
Hopfully it doesnt suck this time ;)
Its hammer time! :pinkelephant:
 Cant touch this
I didn't notice the stage making thingy until now, but holy crap! It's like a dream come true. Now I'll REALLY be able to play this game forever!
I just got twice as excited about this game as I was earlier. :hyper: :excited: :hyper:
Really? My friends and I always play with items just because they make the game more unbalanced and more fun, really. Sometimes my friends have 'Pokebattles' where you can't attack, the only items are Pokeballs, and the only thing you can do is throw Pokeball items. That's fun once or twice but gets a bit irritating after that.
I wonder how they're gonna do Snakes' Final Smash.
Given the fact that Fox gets the Landmaster, I don't think a Metal Gear coming in is too out of the question. Or perhaps a Hind-D helicopter.
Meta Knight's Final Smash seems a bit unreliable compared to the other ones. I guess they can't make everyone's Final Smashes always hit someone 100%...
I was wondering, what do you guys think of all the demands for Bill Cosby to be in Brawl? (Try googling Bill Cosby SSBB and see what I mean)
Actually, a lot of Final Smashes seem to require a certain level of accuracy to pull off. I just hope they make it more devastating to compensate for the higher difficulty of using it, since it is one of the more inaccurate ones. Although he may just be one of the more superior characters and thus be balanced by a bad Final Smash.
well from what it seems, if he hits one person with his cape, he hits every person when the screen goes black. Links requires you to aim, but seems to be an auto kill everytime. Ike's also requires you to aim, and seems to do a lot of damage and probably kill everytime as well.
THE JACKEL
If Jigglypuff returns, it will rock even more in team battles. Sing an opponent to sleep, then your partner hits with a low accuracy, but very very high powered Final Smash. It's easy to aim at a stationary target...
Awwww, Not a terrific update.
But I guess it puts filler in till the release date ^^
I bet Snake's Final Smash will be the Metal Gear seen in Metal Gear 2, driven by Gray Fox! Penis rail-gun included.
*Shrug* The announcement of classic mode wasn't exactly terrific either. But it can't be easy to come out with something new everyday.
I mean, would you rather see:
"Hey, the team spent all day talking with the directors explaining why the game had to be delayed, here's a copy of the discussion"
xD, Yeah, Filler until the release date :3
The Fire Emblem theme and Fox's video is up.
Fire Emblem's theme is nice (though I think the page has more lyrics on it than we heard in the song). While I miss the SSBM Fire Emblem music a little, this is a fair successor.
Fox's video paused at the second right when the green dragon popped up from the lake (it had to load more before it could go on), but even from a bad angle with water blocking some of the image, it was unmistakable, I knew it was Rayquaza. And then we get to see what a legendary Pokemon can do to an Arwing. :D
I liked the old Fire Emblem Music in SSBM as well.
As for the Adventure Mode Clip, it was quite good. Although it leaves me with a lot of questions.
*Please put Rayquaza as a character*
If they did anyway, it probably would be too big. But nothing ventured nothing gained :D
I doubt it. But it would be nice. I also wanted Dark Matter from Kirby's Dream Land 3 to be playable. It'd be so cool playing as a floating eyeball who shoots blood and eyeballs. You don't get to do that in many video games.
If anything they'll add well known Pokemon like Plusle and Minun and Lucario as playable characters.
Rayquaza might wind up as a Pokeball Pokemon though, as I suspect many of the others will. Given that the Pokemon roster seems to have been reduced since Melee, I don't think they'll add in more playable Pokemon.
This one just confirms some returning items. The Beam Sword now is even better than ever before.
I wasn't particularly impressed with today's update. I guess it's nice to know that they won't be updating each old item separately.
For some reason, I think they should add Micaiah to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I also think they should somehow make reference to Pokemon XD and Pokemon Colosseum even if they don't add a character or a level from those games. Adding a few songs from those games would be more than enough for me (especially since the music in those games are awesome. I'd really want the Regular and Simulation battle songs to be in there). It's probably too late for that though.
Frank Jaeger, aka Gray Fox, is now a confirmed Assist Trophy. Also, a brief overview of how to throw.
They better not have too many Sonic and Snake assist trophies.................
Yeah. Except this time Sonic is actually appearing in a Nintendo game that he shouldn't even be allowed near.................
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games was okay since Nintendo and Sega were the main companies that were supposed to make the game. The Super Smash Bros. series is suppose to be made by Nintendo and other companies (Game Freak, HAL Labratories, etc.) that support Nintendo. That's how it's been for the past two games and they shouldn't have made an exception for this one.
I still fail to see how incorporating third party's is a bad thing in any way. Regardless, they're doing it, so continually complaining about it will do nothing.
How couldn't it not be bad? By sticking Snake in there they've made the game much more violent and have raised the ESRB Rating significantly. Characters in Nintendo games aren't suppose to be using nothing but machine guns, realistic explosives like grenades, and other realistic weapons. Besides, Snake would've been better off being in Halo or a game where he'd actually fit in.
As for Sonic he's overrated and will take away from the Nintendo feel of the game. Too many people will be using him which will destroy the purpose of the Smash Bros. series: having Nintendo characters battle it out and see who'll be victorious. If everyone starts using Sonic and the third party characters that'll no longer be the case and it'll just be some game where everyone will use anyone that isn't from Nintendo which will ruin the Smash Bros. series. You can go ahead and say that people won't be bad enough to use only 3rd party characters but it won't be true. Having no 3rd party characters will make sure that this has absolutely no chance of happening and will ensure that the Super Smash Bros. series won't be heading downhill as a result from them.
You could stick them all in some sort of game that's not Nintendo but uses the same system as the Smash Bros. series and I'd be more than okay with it. But having them with Nintendo characters is wrong and will destroy the Smash Bros. feel to the game.
Brawl is rated Teen, just as Melee is. Going solely from Melee the fighters have used laser weapons, "realistic explosives" (Motion-Sensor Mine anyone?), swords (of regular and beam variety), and items such as bats. Sounds pretty violent to me. Also, Snake would be quite out of place in Halo, based off the different genres, settings, weapons, etc.
I for one plan to try out Sonic, but I doubt I'll stick with him. He looks simply too fast for my style of play, and I'm sure many others will feel this way. I actually may like to use Snake, and if I do, so what? If who I play as ruins the experience for you, tough. I for one don't like fighting Sheik or Falco, but I don't think they should be removed. Seeing as how there are what, two third party characters right now, and let's say two more down the pipe. That's four total, compared to the vast majority of Nintendo characters. I somehow doubt Nintendo will make those for so amazingly unbalanced that they will be the only ones used.
Oh, and maybe it's just me, but the purpose of Smash Bros. has never been "having Nintendo characters battle it out and see who'll be victorious". It's been about having a good time playing a video game. If I still have that good time while using Sonic or Snake, I fail to see a problem.
Glad you came from the future to report this to us. Again, if some people prefer the 3rd party characters, so what? If someone prefers to play as Link or Heihachi or Spawn in Soul Calibur II, does that ruin the game?
True. But again, where is any proof that the series has gone downhill because of them? All the gameplay footage I've seen looks to be incredibly fun, even if Sonic is being used. Point out where it's gone downhill to me as far as gameplay.
Why make two different games that are the same, only with different characters? Also, I have yet to hear why third party characters are bad other than it makes you unhappy with the game. If they unbalanced the game or something I'd understand, but as long as the core gameplay stays the same I see no problem. So if Sonic was some really fast Nintendo character, yet retained the same moves and stats and such you'd have no problem?
Lucas's moveset is very lovely indeed.
I can't wait!!
To me I think the series is going uphill from third-party characters.
Oh and Kishi, I really was hoping for him to be a characteer too, or Raiden.
True, but I'm a little sad that it means that Ness won't be returning.
It doesn't, though. It's not as if past Smash games haven't had different characters with very similar, if not identical, move sets.
except, they specifically said no clone characters in Brawl. Don't ask me to look it up, it was said at some point in time. Which is why most people think Luigi will probably have his vacuum or something. They gave Mario F.L.U.D.D. probably to further differentiate between the two characters, if they're both in Brawl
THE JACKEL
It wouldn't be a "clone" situation anyway. Lucas's physical attacks are already different from Ness's.
Obviously that's doesn't mean Ness definately won't be in, but it kinda implies that he won't.Quote:
There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users.
Yes, and Dr. Mario shot pills instead of fireballs. It's still a clone situation. 3 of the 4 special moves are the same (the PK Fire difference is so small as to be non-existant, like the difference between Pichu's Thundershock and Pikachu's Thundershock). Lucas is a Ness clone, so Ness almost certainly isn't going to be there.
Personally, I think the whole Lucas/Ness thing is a perfect example of why clones should be left in. So what if two characters play nearly identically? Each person has their own reasons for playing the characters they choose, and it isn't always because they think the character has awesome moves. Most of us like Ness. Hell, I liked Pichu for goodness' sakes (yeah, he sucked, and I knew that but I still found his odd attack style and quirky movements fun enough to play. He wasn't nearly my favorite, and I think they made a stupid decision in giving self-damaging attacks to the lightest character in the game, but I would have rather seen him reworked than axed. Pichu with his tiny Beam Sword held in his mouth...). What's wrong with duplicating a moveset if it means that fans get to keep working with characters they know and love?
No one seems to be mentioning this little line here:
So, judging by this statement, one could infer that Ness is out.Quote:

Also Skyblade, I also liked using Pichu. His quick dodge roll and small size makes him really hard to hit. He also has the best taunt in the game (the one where he faces the right and taunts). They better add him in Brawl (preferrably with different moves like Charm). Otherwise, there'll be no playable Pokemon that'll represent the 2nd Generation.
Practically all of Snake's recent games are rated M though. You want Super Smash Bros. Brawl to be changed to a rated M game just like Halo? The Smash Bros. series low violence ratings is what makes them stand out from Halo. Even if Brawl most likely won’t be rated M because of Snake being in it there’s still that chance. And I know that swords and bats are realistic weapons but who uses those anymore? You won't see a serial killer or someone in a war fighting using those. Swords were weapons of the past which makes them unrealistic to use today. As for bats, they aren’t really meant to be used for weapons. Also, beam swords are just a science fiction weapon and the motion sensor mine is also too futuristic of a weapon even though they do exist in real life. Those weapons fit along with the science fictional feeling of the Starfox and F-Zero series (even if the F-Zero series has people barely using weapons). Machines guns on the other hand were and still are used here in the present which make them more realistic and less Nintendoish than those other weapons.Quote:

If everyone starts only using Sonic and Snake (which probably won’t happen but is still entirely possible) the game will lose its Nintendo feel which ruin what the Super Smash Bros. series is all about. The previous two Smash Bros. games were solely Nintendo and their other companies that help them make their games (Game Freak, HAL, APE, etc.) and that shouldn’t have changed for the third one.Quote:

It doesn’t have much of a chance of happening but if it does they might as well let Konami or Sega be in charge of making Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I know it sucks but unless there’s some other way to prevent that there’s nothing else that can be done to ensure that the Smash Bros. series stays mostly Nintendo.
I completely disagree with every argument you made.
Firstly, the weapons you listed as not really violent, are far more violent. Kill someone with a gun, it's possible with 1 bullet, in the heart, and you barely see anything. Kill someone with a baseball bat, well, it's pretty brutal. Simply enough, Snake will fit in fine to the game, you already know his special moves, and they're no more violent than any of the already usable items.
People will not be using these characters exclusively, unless Nintendo accidentally balanced them to be the best. I personally use every character except the big slow ones, so I'll be using them sometimes. But the simple fact is, the majority of competitive players will use whatever character is best, regardless. The other casual players, will play with the ones they know.
and uhm, I'm sure there are more people that will refuse to use Snake or Sonic, than will only play with them.
Saying some people will only use them is an absurd argument. Some people only use Link, cause they think he's cooler. Some only use female characters just because. Some only use Mario because he is Nintendo. Some only use Fox, because he was the best in Melee, by most people's standards. Some only use Pikachu, because they love pokemon. etc.
it is far far more likely most people will start out using fox, than any other character.

Evastio, I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree with your conclusions.
First, I doubt that the introduction of Snake will have any negative aspect on the game. His owners begged Nintendo to let him in, knowing full well what sort of game SSB was, and Nintendo accepted, knowing exactly what sort of character Snake is. They would not have done that if they felt that it would cause a shift in the game's focus away from the feel that has made it beloved by fans around the world. Look at the conversations between Snake and his team that were made for the game. Clearly, they're working to bring out a lighter side and fit him in as much as possible, and I think they have done an incredible job of it.
Second, I disagree. The original idea of SSB was to give the Nintendo All Stars a chance to let loose on each other, but that was not the primary draw of the game. It was gamers getting the opportunity to play their favorite characters from so many different series all together in a light, fun environment. People won't work with Snake or Sonic just because they are third party characters. They will work with them because they are characters that they have known and loved through years of gaming, just like all the rest of the SSB crew. There are plenty of people who will never abandon Link, Captain Falcon, Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Ice Climbers, or Kirby (that's me!) for the same reason. The game is about more than Nintendo, it's about all the best characters in gaming being thrown together to have fun. Nintendo will always be the driving soul behind SSB, and they'll ensure that the quality and feel of the game remains what has caused it to reach to gamers from every genre, every age group. Adding more characters from more sources will only give more gamers the opportunity to pick up their favorites and just have fun with them. Bring them in, and let them fight it out!

I guess you do have some valid points there Skyblade. Although you have to admit that Zero Suit Samus conversation was a little inappropriate. But I guess I could think of Snake’s conversations like audial character descriptions kind of like how trophys have character descriptions. I’m just hoping that the remainder of Snake’s moves that haven’t been shown aren’t too violent (they did say that his smash attacks are going to be different compared to other characters).
As for people using 3rd party characters all the time I know that it has a very slim chance of happening. I’m just worried about having it happen. But I guess you’re right about most people not abandoning their favourites (I know I won’t be abandoning the Ice Climbers, Mario, Bowser, Yoshi, Marth, Luigi, Falco, and Pichu if they still stay in Brawl). It’s going to be a little sad for the people that do though.
I guess I'm a little more okay about having them in (I'm still not completely okay with it yet though).
So what if they use third party characters all the time? That just means they enjoy using those characters and have more fun with them them the others.
His smash attacks use heavy weaponry. That doesn't make them any more violent than, for example, Samus's special abilities. He just adds them to his Smash attacks to give them a little more power. I kind of like the idea, as it makes me wonder if he might have fairly weak punch/kick normal attacks, but make up for it with heavy weaponry based smash attacks.
But don't worry. I'm sure the first time that Sonic gets sent out of the arena by a Home-Run Bat, or Snake gets swallowed and we see commando Kirby, you'll find that everything is right with the world.

Looks BRILLIANT!
see they're fun sometimes yes, but half the time people stop fighting, and just worry about the stage killing them. I already know I'm going to create a giant box for one of my maps, and that's it, walls, ceiling, everything. Completely pound on everyone box

I know it's a little late, but MGS is rated M because of the hidden smut and gore in the game, not because of a Nikita rocket...
And Eva never zipping her shirt back up.
Ike's Final Smash has been unleashed. Great Aether!
Invincibility for the duration of the move, and a very powerful leap-sweep-strike move. I'm not totally happy with its similarity to his up special attack, but I'll wait to see it in action before I judge.
taunt update, each character has 3 and each can be assigned a text macro

Link's taunts are fun. His N64 pose and his victory flourish from Twilight Princess.
I'm viewing the addition of taunt messages as both a blessing and a curse. All the terrible taunt messages that will be written (and you know there will be tons) is not something I'm looking forward to, despite the sheer fun of being able to create my own.
"Don't make me consult my fairy on you!" Terrible vid, I know, but the line just works for Link's taunt.
Taunt messages will probably be overused by people playing the game for the first time, but after an hour, they'll probably die out. :P Like the taunts themselves! :D
The lack of character updates is really pathetic. The last character they added on the roster was King Dedede and that was around 3 weeks ago. I don't see why they didn't update Captain Falcon, Luigi, Ness, or Jigglypuff (if they hopefully make it back) during the last 3 weeks. Even if they updated another 3rd part character like Klonoa, Bomberman, Megaman, or even Mona Lisa or the Pillsbury Doughboy I'd be happy. Yeah, I'm not completely serious about the last two but you get the point.
Why's it such a big deal? There's nothing wrong with having a few surprises when the game finally ships. It's pretty unusual to see such a consistent flow of new information about an upcoming game.
It's just strange to see all of the character roster updates flooding in at first, then slowly being reduced to a trickle. I guess it would spoil the suprise, but I'm sure that they could still be updated characters every two weeks without running out of characters when it comes out.
Also, it kind of makes me doubtful if they'll be adding veterans they they haven't shown yet like Luigi, Ness, Marth, Falco, Pichu, and them. I know they most likely won't be taking them out but as long as they don't update them it's possible that they've been removed.
It's also quite unfair that they've updated the stages, how to play section, the game modes, and other sections twice without having a playable character revealed in between.
