All right! No more robot taru!
My first garrisson, 20 cap, west ron... DEATH
I got killed by a freakin' bunny.
Did my first KS99, kited around a huge behemoth thing. =) Gotta watch out for that meteor!
I've decided to take a long and possibly permanent break from FFXI. After taking a break for about 2 weeks, I tried the little 2 dollar WoW trial. It's not so much that WoWs the better game (though in my opinion it probably is), but really the fact that WoW allowed me to look at FFXI without the love goggles. I finally admitted to myself that the game just doesn't reward you much for what you put in. Additionally, SE is lazy about pretty much everything. They don't listen to the complaints of the playerbase, they let RMT run rampant, they let people cheat, they don't allow windowed mode and say it's because it will allow all of the above things they don't fix.
In WoW you can play windowed. Hell, you can even play with mods. Stuff like TParty and Bloodpace would be 100% legal in WoW. At the same time, if someone cheats (flee hack, bot, etc.) they get banned. RMT don't own the economy and you don't have to save up forever to get something. You can wear decent gear and not be a gimp. You can wear different looking gear than other people of your job at your level and not be gimp.
Instead of logging in for 3 hours of LFP every day on DRG just to log out without making progress, I can log into WoW for only 30 minutes and make 10x the progress and feel good about it and then return to real life.
FFXI offers you almost nothing if you can't devote 2-3 hour time blocks to it. Am I supposed to really feel all that accomplished that I spent over a year doing sky to get a full set of god gear? It's good, but it's only a few notches better than any other gear. So what if my e-cock is bigger and I can brag more about my gear? It just means that I sold my soul to a LS that got it for me after an unhealthy amount of time. I'd rather put a reasonable amount of time in and get rewards that are even more worth the effort (i.e. the stats are actually a notable improvement).
People will say the playerbase is more immature in WoW and they are probably correct. However, there are also immature asshats in FFXI. At least I'm not forced to PT with them in WoW. My option in FFXI if I get a PT with a jackass is to either deal with him, or go LFP in Jeuno for another ridiculous amount of time.
I'll probably come back after an extended break in WoW, but maybe not. Some do, but most don't. You always get the handful that come back from playing for 3 months and capping a single character just to say how easy WoW was. Well, it's probably easy coming from FFXI where you played 8+ hours a day. If you spent that much time in WoW, sure you'd get everything fast on one toon.
I'd prefer to go slow and enjoy myself while still having time to spend doing other things. I'd like to be able to log in for only one hour and actually feel like I've accomplished something and had FUN. There's very little to do in FFXI for fun in one hour. I started scheduling life around FFXI. I'd rather schedule a game into my life than feel the need to adjust my life for the game.
Yeah, I've taken short breaks from FFXI to play WoW in the past. It is a good game in my opinion, but for me it still lacked something that FFXI has (and generally I missed all my friends on FFXI).
I'm starting to get to a point in FFXI, where I can't attend as many end-game activities due to getting / trying to get a job and being in a whole different time zone to Americans, and a lot of shells don't like that. I'm just lucky my current shell can put up with me being late or not showing up.
But anyway, it's good, so enjoy it. ^^
Edit: BTW. Even though I could generally play FFXI 8+ hours in one day, I still found it slow to level in WoW. Not as slow as FFXI, but slow enough to notice.
/cry Yeargdribble
Just kidding. :)
If I had played the game as long as you and done all the stuff you did, I'd probably be looking for a change too. The game is not always going to have the same appeal as you keep playing it. I don't think I'll ever play WoW though, I'm more of a FF fan than a MMORPG fan.
In recent accomplishment news I just acquired the Dark Knight job and got Blu up to 16. I'm really enjoying learning spells.
It just upsets me in retrospect because after playing FFXI so long I just figured so many things were par for the course in MMORPGs. When I played WoW, I finally realized how broken FFXI was and how lazy SE is.
I'm at a point in FFXI where it is absolutely a job to keep trying. I have so much endgame Ra/Ex gear that I'm running out of space. Any time I'd want to level a job I'd have to spend nearly an hour muling the gear over. I was at the point where I either stop leveling other jobs for fun or start being a gimp on my BRD.
While leveling may be slow on WoW as well as the levels get higher, I find the way quests work with the game to be much more friendly. You are killing two birds with one stone. You get a quest, go kill mobs for XP while doing the quest, get their drops (which are actually worth something in WoWs economy), go back to the quest giver, get MORE XP for finishing it as well as more money and sometimes some pretty decent gear. It feels like a lot of progress at once. In FFXI if you want to XP... you XP... period. You have to find a group to do so and that's frustrating if I don't have a mount of available time to play.
I think FFXI has good bones. It has a lot of things going for it, but honestly SE has shown they don't care with the impotence in which they deal with in game problems.
WoW is also a game that will be easier to enjoy with my wife. She's not too keen on giving up FFXI and her 3 75 jobs all pimped out in Relic and everything else you can imagine. She's got a lot of friends and such, but she played WoW and enjoyed it. It's so easy to get together with a significant other in the game and go accomplish things and I find that great.
I'm also gonna miss you guys. I didn't get to play with any of your but you made me feel pretty at home here on this little corner of the internet. I won't feel as involved any more and that's pretty sad. I'll try to stop in and see what everyone is managing to accomplish from time to time though ^^
I dont know. Im still having fun with the game. WoW looks fun but at the same time, I doubt ill ever play it. I played Diablo II for about 5 1/2 years and its true, once you get to the end of the game theres not really much else to do but PL a lower lvl character and duel. Not 100% sure if thats the way it is in WoW but most Blizzard games that ive played run the same way.
Plus, dont get into mods too much. Diablo II was a free to play online game and people were getting banned quite often (once every 2-3 months theyd have a "rust storm" and about 20,000-30,000 were banned at once). Considering WoW is a pay to play, I can only assume its a matter of time before they run a server sweep.
But all that aside, I made a mule about a week ago and Ive been farming with it in the mines, plus sending stuff to it from my main to sell at the AH. I pretty much doubled my income now and have a steady income now. Also completed ZM4 so just a few more and I can go to sky. Friend got me in a sky LS so once I get access, its on like donkey kong!
I hear this often, but the same can be said about FFXI. Some people argue that FFXI is more fun because it takes longer and you can be more proud of your accomplishments. In all reality, I've done pretty much all there was to do with BRD. I stretched the limits quite a bit.
I had all the gear and then some. I got to the end, and it feels empty. Just because it took me 10x as long to get those things in FFXI than it would in WoW, is that supposed to make them any less hollow? At least in WoW I might not feel so attached to my toon that I can't just play another toon.
I'm curious what FFXI players feel like is waiting for them at the end of the rainbow that they claim WoW doesn't offer. The endgame of FFXI is less well thought out imo. Sitting in Dragon's Aery 3 hours a day 7 days a week for a chance at gear? Competing with botting LSs? That's fun?
All I know is that the higher you get in FFXI, the higher your dependence becomes on others to help you get things.... the higher the requirements on your time to get any decent gear.
I would offer that FFXI's end is similarly empty. It just sucks more life out of you before you hit that wall.
I play both WoW and FFXI. ^_- I love them both, when you get bored in FFXI... just hopping on WoW to kill somebody on my <3Rogue just feels great. Then I go and play FFXI again.
YOUR HAIDATE WILL BE MINE!
Anyway. ^_^ I did my first Sky event last Saturday. It was thrilling.
well over the past few weeks I have managed to get mnk to 43 and pld up to 30. Unfortunatly however I am as poor as a broke bicycle so its time to farm.
I just cleared Dynamis - Beaucedine. =)
I wish I could come back to the game. After I quit, I slowly came to realize how incredible FFXI is. I think if I get the chance to come back or decide to waste my time trying to play on dial-up, I'll be able to enjoy the game more than I ever could before.
When I played before I was constantly plagued by the persuit of the best gear, and was tied down to a hard-core HNMLS. But next time I'll concentrate more on my friends, and doing things that are fun as opposed to events that make me money or give me things.
Hopefully you'll go back to FFXI, Year. As someone who doesn't have a choice, it's hard to see someone who does have a choice make the wrong one. Although if I could play WoW, I probably would for one of the reasons you are going to it. I do think FFXI has more to accomplish, and is more rewarding, and generally a better game. But WoW isn't as much of a time-sink, and I have no time to waste.
Grats Omecle, Xarcarbard is insane, you'll love it. Especially if you'll be going after DL.
Last night I learnt Ice Break, it was fun. At one point we were resting and a golem popped right beside us, so we got up and buffed, it turned and attacked and at the same time a tiger came and aggroed on the guy i was with (he was only 41) so I slept the tiger and we fought teh golem, then we fought teh tiger, and a bat eye joined in O_O I slept that and went all arcane circley and stuff (subbing drk), and somehow we beat the tiger then the bat eye!! So yeah, it was fun cos we lived through numerous assaults XD
I learnt ice break, he didn't, then we died.
And today I decided to hunt Clusters in lufaise, I knew I'd never even find any, but it was worth a shot. And the funny thing is, I found an atomic cluster, fought it, it used refueling, I killed it, and learnt it first kill! So that made me happy, unofrtunately I had like 50 HP and 0MP left to protect me from the Gigantobugard that decided to attack me right afterwards, so I died but... It was so worth it :D
Well I just restarted my account. First accomplishment in 7 months. It's a little choppy on dial-up, but it's worth it certainly. Crappy thing is I sold everything before I left and gave the money to a friend who doesn't play anymore, so I have to start from scratch financially. But that'll be fun.
I don't know what it's like on other servers, but on Midgardsormr you will have one hell of a time trying to gain back your gil. The economy has crashed and there's no profit to be made in anything worthwhile. =\
Though, may I ask, why you are on dial up? Broadband's pretty cheap these days.
Dial Up + FFXI= No money
I recently obtained that super awesome Duelist Chapeau for my RDM <3 I'm 4/5 on Relic AF for RDM! Just need the tabard. Is it just me or does Northland AF drops suck arse?
EDIT: Good luck in WoW! I hear it's fun for the first little while :P They all come back evantually to FFXI! Now make sure you don;t start preaching about hot crappy FFXI is compared to WoW and how we're wasting our time etc, we've heard it before and it's a pointless arguement. We still like FFXI ;o
I live on campus at my college, and there's no broadband access, or rather the only broadband is a Token Ring which is not compatible with the ps2, which is what I play ffxi on. For that matter I could theoretically play ffxi on pc and have the token ring, but my pc won't work on a token ring either. A local cable company has cable internet but the college goes through a different company that doesn't. It's horrible, really.Quote:

Grats ES. I never did get either of my northlands pieces. While I was gone though my old dynamis ls got 4 Assassin Armlets in one run. It's sad, b/c now that I'm on dial-up I can't really do dynamis runs. They tend to get a lot of drops b/c they're very proficient at dynamis. They've double cleared each of the 4 cities, and are conquering more and more of the northlands each time they go. I've actually found that Xarc drops seem to be more common than Beaucedine. Beaucedine sucks.Quote:

I...leveled...whm.
Oh god, I feel so dirty.
vd-day quest?
WOOOT Hit Rank 5 Sandy tonight :D :D :D
Actually I think the big lie in the FFXI community is that everyone that plays WoW comes back. For every 1 you hear about coming back there are probably 10 or more that don't. The ones that do are the super hardcore players that have the time to devote to endgame. For someone who can play that much, WoW would likely be a bore as they would get done very quickly. (Well known endgame BLM on my server took Mage to 60 in under 2 months and completed all of his dungeon and tier gear and was just a little short on finishing his epics apparently by the end of his 3rd month before quitting and returning to FFXI)
As for preaching about how crappy one is over the other, they are very different games for different types of people with different amounts of available free time. FFXI is a phenominal game with good bones, but they have the crappiest development team that doesn't seem to care about the players or even understand the mechanics of the game they have created. I think FFXI is such a good game that it perhaps could've become a super power like WoW if not for the lazy development.
As for northlands gear. I was lucky and got both of mine on my very first runs to each zone, but that's just insane luck. My D shell has good luck with RDM hats which most people complain about. It's SMN that's rare. In 1.5 years I've seen 2 horns and 1 Doublet. Apparently my LS did Xarc tonight and DL dropped another Mantle. They haven't seen a ring in a very long time.
Yeah but aren't you one of those hardcore players?
In recent accomplishment news, I got Blu to 19. It's really fun. I can either tank or DD with ease, but no one really is interested in a Blu tank. I want to see if I can try to solo some. I hear Korokola Tunnel is a good place. Is that true? I'm going to go there anyway to try to get a Nadrs for level 24.
Korroloka Tunnel is like sex to low level soloers ;o I got my rng from 14 to 20 in there in no time. was hard as hell though lol
I still need to get my choco :X I recently decided to take a break from lvling my whm and kick some ass on my monk. I think the parties I was in were sick of the white mage trying to become the offence. *sigh*
Melee whitemages for the win!
Did my first Xarcabard dynamis. =) Also tried Divine Might, but ran out of time (had the Elvaan and Hume left), seems a lot of that fight is based on luck. We had a good strategy and everything.
So next time we're bring a lot more pentasphere's and we'll be prepared for it!
I was, but after leveling THF and DRG and realizing how much time I spent tethered to my computer hoping for the off chance of a PT as well as going through the stress of multiple scheduled endgame events, I realized that it wasn't the way to be. I have other real life things that make me have less play time now so I slowly became less hardcore. I definitely am aiming at a very softcore approach to WoW. I still play quite a bit, but the thing I enjoy the most about WoW is that I can seriously walk away from the computer at just about any moment. I'm not expected to be at an event at a said time and I'm not making a commitment to a PT of any kind. Even if I'm in a group, leaving with little notice is par for the course in WoW and doesn't hurt anyone that much really.
BTW, I am apparently caught up on ToAU missions. My wife dragged me to the fight with Khimaira by dual-boxing me and her. Now I just have to check the CS. Perhaps we'll do the new ToAU missions soon for kicks. So I'm still making accomplishments rather than completely derailing this thread. ^^
As for DM. You have to have a crazy zerg thing set up to start with. If the TT is alive for more than 10 seconds, you've lost. He should get wtfpwn'd instantly even if that means blowing EES from your RNGs and maybe having a SAM 2hr him while BLMs (and RDMs mebbe) nuke spam. Have your kiters set up already and do reverse kite patterns (one counter clockwise and the other clockwise) around the circle. If need be, have someone kite up and down the hall. If possible have dedicated sleepers for each of the pets. If the MR calls mandy instead of tiger, sucks to be you. In this case especially your dedicated sleeper should try to lure the pet into the hall.
Once you have two down (TT and HM) everyone should quickly get on the stairs and plan to wipe. Just have everyone wipe ASAP. Try to take down a 3rd if you can (GK I think is the next best). If you wipe with only 2 left, you win. RR and get back to full. For safety, put 2 kiters on the EV and have everyone blow themselves all over the MR. Use 2hrs if possible. Another SAM 2hr is hot here. After this, the EV should be easy.
If your group has less than 2 pentaspheres, there's almost no point in trying. Especially if you are doing it with a PUG you should do a dry run first to get the flow and practice the wipe. I am 1/19 on DM. Finally got lucky enough to have a group with solid strategy that was willing to wipe and not whine about XP loss. My first several attempts on DM were before RR items existed >.> GL with it. It's quite a thrill to actually win and the music is awesomeness in there ^^
THF DRG? ;o no wonder you quit, I think those are the two hardest jobs to level without a static. I exp'd my rdm with Jalbrean from lvl 38 to 75, he was a DRG. Still is one lol XD <3 <3 Anain!
As an alternative to Year's DM plan, my ls did it w/out the planned wipe, actually w/ only 2 deaths the whole time.
I flee pulled the hume to the first room where rdms chainspell nuked it to death, while everyone else zerged the taru, then the galka, all the while a ninja, pld, and war kited the elv and mithra. Then we finished off those two. I'm 2/2 on DM. This plan requires absolute precision from everyone though, and 100% expert kiters.
So year, you don't think you can enjoy ffxi w/out endgame? I came back to the game and have no plans to get back into endgame(except maybe a limbus shell) and I'm finding that I can enjoy myself w/out the stress of the hnmls. I'm actually having a lot more fun than I did before. Maybe it's because I joined endgame too fast, and never got to experience a lot of the middlegame. So far I've been content just helping ppl out w/out a strict schedule of when I have to get on and what I have to do while I'm on.
Nevertheless, I understand where you're coming from. I'm incredibly busy, and ffxi totally requires a time commitment. One thing I've done to help correct my problem with this is to not get on if I know I don't have enough time to commit. Before I would get on knowing I only had 30 minutes, and I would just wander around aimlessly which eventually made me ambivalent toward the game. But now I just play something else, and when I finally do have time for ffxi, it's a much fresher experience.
I haven't accomplished much since coming back although I did get padfoot to drop Astral Earring, but the person with me disbanded the pt and made the Earring drop into oblivion, which infuriated me, but oh well.
Ding! Whm 58!
I can get my Healer's Briault now. :D
Well, for the past few months I would actually sit on my BRD/NIN in Jeuno and wait for people to shout for help with things AF, LBs, Avatar Prime fights etc... then just go solo/duo them. Helping people was probably some of the most fun I had in the game, but that too played out. I'll probably still log in here and there to help friends with things or do some ToAU missions, but I think my playing has pretty much come to a point of stagnation for the foreseeable future.
As for being leader, I think maybe I'm too passive. I hate being the one left holding the bag when people start dropping the PT. Also, it's a world of difference trying to put together a PT as a DRG... I've tried.
This is the broken record that so often played for my DRG. I'm amazed I ever managed to get to 50. I only did that because I would quasi-static with a handful of people who were impressed by me the first time they XP'd with me and kept inviting me back. However, if those people have more time to play than you, and they have a more popular jobs (i.e. anything other than DRG or PUP), they will soon move out of your level range and you're stuck again.Quote:
Yearg invites a tank.

*tell both that I have the other*
*both tell me to tell them when I have a full PT*
Yearg invites random melees
*tank and healer both found other PTs*
Yearg waits 30 minutes with impatient melees for a tank AND a healer to pop simultaneously.
Party disbands.
Yearg gives up and puts his flag up.
*6 hours pass*
Yearg logs out.
BTW... grats Miriel ^^ I wish I was on your server. I'd log in right now to go help you. WHM AF3 is probably one of the most ridiculously difficult AF3s up there with MNK AF3. But I know I can do it with my BRD/NIN+WHM/NIN (my wife) + WHM that needs it throwing backup cures.
My wife hasn't taken my leaving the game well and she's not big on leaving, but she found out that her best friend from HS (who she doesn't get to talk to much because she lives on a US army base in Japan) plays WoW... a lot. Her husband and her both play, so she's much more anxious to spend more time playing WoW with me, and that's fun as hell.
oh sweet then n_n.
has it been fun so far :D?
We did G3 and got to level 59. Still need 5 AF between us though.
Just be careful. The drop rate on those Tavnazian Bells is beyond horrible (as you may or may not know already). If you lose the NM fight you WILL! have to get another bell. Make sure your group can take it when you go. It's best to have 2 tanks if you don't have a lot of DD because the NM likes to use AoE (get rid of shadows) and then immediately do Dimensional Death before you can get shadows back up.
If you were taking people from your level range alone, I'd suggest 6 people at the very least. I know that I can barely squeak by with 2 healers though it's still a mess (I lost someone's bell once). Usually with just one more level 75 DD it's much easier. A 75 NIN built to DD can probably take it out fast enough that one WHM might not run out of MP healing him.
GL ^^
{Gallant Breeches} {Found it!}
4 more AF to go.
I got a party invite!
Here's the crazy thing--I was on THF at the time!
Thanks for the advice and information, Yearg and Chionos. Now the only problem is getting other people who are needing this, to get off their butts and get a damned orb. -_-;
If I was still on Midga Omecle I'd help you with it just cause it's fun >_>
Ome, if my character gets reactivated, i get gear, and if i get to there in my ZM's id love to help out in any way i could XD
Chionos is probably right that it's easier to do these days without a planned wipe. There's been a lot of gear and merits added since the days when I did mine. However, I'd still suggest getting most of your people on the steps after the first 2 go down. Having people die in the circle sucks if you do have to wipe.
Just know if things are to the point that you can't make it without a wipe and if it goes that direction make sure people die as fast as possible so as to not waste time. But like Chionos said, you have to have some experts working with you to make this happen, especially as far as your kiters go.
Many of the wipes I've seen are the result of people being a little too tentative in the begging and failing to fully unload all they need to on the TT.
Finally saved up enough gil for an endgame shield. Just gotta get one level and I can use it.
Yeah, the problem with one of our kiters, was that the Elvaan had stunned him and straight away Spirits Within for 2000+ damage. Then I tried kiting the Elvaan after tanking the Galka and Mithra -- and I got stunned and Spirits Within for 1,700 damage. So that lost us a lot of time. =\
I learned {Leave} <3
well within this last week Ive manage to get mnk to 50  and unlocked smn job.
Now this weekend I plan on getting my GK1 items and also doing my first promy at mea.
Rank 6!
Also Eleni got something special...
Accomplishments:

WHM AF BODY! YAY!

Three (out of four) of us died while fighting the NM. It was freakin' nuts. But we still managed to get me my pretty pretty disco outfit.
/wave ^_^

Tmoney has a big head ;-;
I levelled BST from 10-15 in the past week. That's quite an accomplishment for me XD I also helped someone defeat the Tros for their Bard AF weapon.
well here is how that promy-mea went :D
this is my good friend Lanna
cool overhead shot
but in the end it was still like this
Ding!
Level 60 WHM!
getting some super uber friends
Got a new all BLU ls, and did first half of the phomiuna aqueducts mission... Without a whm!!! :O So yeah, we beat the minotaur. Now next weekend we gotta go do the rest, get that bronze key and do the puzzle. Weee
>_> 3/5 whm AF2 now! and I got Cleric's cap +1 on Sunday. that AF1+1 farking rocks. I recommend it.
did GK1 this weekend wo0t so now its onward to mnk 55!
Also attempted promy dem got so close but still wiped. :( those things are extreamly hard.
Finally did my first HQ synthisis :rolleyes2
Just achieved Rank 3, beating the boss in party of 3, WAR25/MNK12 x2 and me BLM25/WHM12. And we broke the server record apparently? 5 minutes and 19 seconds.
Remember that records are deleted at regular intervals :p.
I finally got WAR to 70 so I can wear my O.hat. And I've bought my Maneater and Woodsville axe. Yay!
Going to try my hand at BRD because it looks pretty interesting -- I fall asleep too easily while exp'ing WAR! But it'll be nice to have a DD and a support role at 75 as well as my PLD. A decent variety if I do say so myself.
All AF complete for both of us!
Soloed BLU from 22-28 in two days. With the exeption of one party I was in with an LS friend from 18-19, I've soloed this job this whole way, and it is damn fun. Since I can chain 4 pugils and crabs for 100-160 base exp I see no reason not to continue this.
I hated brd >_> and I have rdm and cor at 75 XD That job bored me to tears. You only cast 4 things total in exp pts and there's not much room to be diverse because of the expectations of what the pt wants. Good luck though :P I got it to 37 before I sold all my gear XD
Accomplishment: SMN Spats: Obtained! On my way with smn o.O
After the update I lived in Rancor Den for a few days and got my Thief's Knife, which isn't so special anymore, but i'm still very hopeful about TH+1...if it would just actually do some good. 0/9 on NM's since getting it...not looking good so far.
Got whm to 37 and I'm kind of stuck there b/c I won't lvl w/out fully updated spells, and some moron's jacked the price of tele-mea above 200k and I won't pay that considering it was ~70k just a couple weeks ago. Oh, and I don't have any money--there's that.
got cooking 0-26 in about an hour so I can make my own bait, because I'm going to take up fishing. I think I've given up on NM's ever being gracious enough to allow me to glimpse the tiniest portion of their treasure hoard. There are non-thiefs w/ better drop-rates. TH is a lie.
Really, most of my accomplishments recently have been for other ppl, and i'm content doing that...so I'm not as emo as I may sound. =0
I remember trying to get one of the Hktk eyes for my wife's O hat with a LS friend about a year ago. He had the gloves and the knife. We went 0/87 with TH4.
On normal drops TH2/3/4 is huge though. Amazing farming. There's also a huge difference in our dynamis drop-rates whether we have TH3/4 or only TH2. We get 15-20 in cities with TH3/4 and usually only around 10 with only TH2. In northlands it's usually 0-2 with TH2 only and 3-6 with TH3/4.
Finally catching up on club skill. Got it to 112 so far and got Starlight weapon skill. Can't wait for Hexa strike!
I finished FF12!
Oh yeah, and um... I got BRD to 25 and just trying to sort out my macros and stuff 'cause there's too many songs!
yeah. there sure is quite a few ._.
all in good fun though :D!
Lionx and I make Light all the time with Savage Blade > Hexa Strike. *giggles*
I got my first AF item: the Peregrine Lance:D
4/6 on smn AF1 >.> just need the Fugly Temple coffer and muh horn! meow~!
7 friends who I basically started the game with have shown back up recently. Most had gone to WoW and were just bored to tears with it so came back. It's been fun.
got Whm to 42...that's about it. Thf = coffer key hunting whore for friends. They all came back and started leveling jobs ~ 45-50 so everyday when I get on one of them's in some hell-hole acting pitiful and sad so that I'll have mercy and bless them w/ TH.
Yeah, definitely. I don't have it anymore on my computer, so it'd be pretty awesome.
I finished the 50 Cap quest and My DRG is now at 51:D
Misfit always quits >_>
<3
*ding*
PLD hit 75 last night. Get to use my Walhara Turbin now and now I can join my friend in his merit parties.
Next step, getting NIN from 27 to 37. Then my PLD subs are done (war and rdm are already at 37). :)
I can finally kill colibris without resting after 1-2 fights. I killed 5 in a row last night without resting.
Got my Drachen Brais(AF) for my DRG
Well after quite a bit of strong disagreement with my wife, she finally decided to try WoW out with me. For quite a while she was still very anti-WoW and played a lot of FFXI. She has now decided that FFXI indeed has ceased to be fun for her and was more like a job and her unwillingness to give it up was based partially on guilt and partially on potential separation anxiety from a character she's worked for 3 years on (3 75s with full relic on each as well as pretty much everything else pimp you can imagine).
So this month it will officially happen. She will be canceling her account. For the time that she still played FFXI she wanted my character for crafting and for all of the mules that we had (which were a downright necessity to keep up with all of the junk). So now my account also will officially be canceled.
I'm pretty sad as it feels like the actual nail in the coffin. There's always something in the back of my mind telling me I might want to play some more, but it has become too much work. I'm sad that I got full DRG AF (in one day mind you) and never put on a single piece of it.
I hope you all enjoy it. I'm not sure if it was something I encountered that drove me away from the game or perhaps the fact that SE ignored their playerbase for so long, or perhaps I just played it to its conclusion for me. I hope you can avoid whatever made me so cynical in the end and I hope SE continues to make the improvements they finally have started making.
I can honestly say though that when I get bored with WoW (it will inevitably happen one day) I hope I do not come back to FFXI.
You should sell your characters.
LolRMTboughtmyaccount
Yeah who wants to see 3+years of work be bought by RMT. Screw that. Hope you two have a great time on Wow!
Side comment: Why is dumping your character and quitting FFXI in the accomplishment thread? ;/ What a downer for us people that still like to play.
BTW - Proto-Omega down and got Proto-Ultima down to 5% with 14 people on our first try ^_^ that was a super fun chaotic fight lol
I've been tempted to liquidate my assets and sell them, but I'd never sell my character. I don't want my name slandered. I really despise RMT anyway so I have no strong desire to sell my stuff and be a hypocrite considering how much I've protested RMT.
I still like you guys so I just thought I'd update. I like reading and seeing what you guys are up to. The FFXI and ex-FFXI people are their own little subculture here. I'm still interested in FFXIs development and the development of my friends here that play it though I personally don't wish to make the effort any more.
It's good to see that many of you are still enjoying yourselves. ^^
For the sake of being even remotely on topic, after much shuffling around and having started nearly 15 characters on various servers (Oh god... I'm Tsukasa!) I've settled down for the most part and picked 2 servers (both PvP). I've got some very neglected alliance chars on one server that my wife and I joined. My wife's HS best friend and her husband play on that server. However, my primary characters are on another server (Darrowmere) where we play horde and love it.
I mostly love Druid and Tauren make for the best Druids so that's my main (Feral Druid) as well as an Undead Shadow Priest and a Blood Elf Protection Paladin.
EDIT: I might post some pics later for the sake of spicing things up if the powers that be aren't totally in objection.
Go for it.
Eternalshiva~ limbus, especially omega/ultima, is probably just about my favorite thing to do in ffxi. It's like dynamis...but fun. I died many many times my first Ultima, but it was well worth it. The win felt like more of an accomplishment than killing DL because there are fewer people, and it feels more personal/intimate. I wish they'd add to it as they did w/ dynamis and the cop dynamis zones. ToAU limbus maybe? >_>
I'm d/ling WoW right now, mainly at the behest of my brother-in-law. I know, for me at least, it will not eclipse FFXI, and I will never choose it over FFXI, but I think I would regret not experiencing it to some extent. So many ppl love it, there has to be -something- worthwhile about it. And I think it will also give me a better appreciation for ffxi. All of my friends that have played both say that they understand FFXI more for having played WoW. I think that, most of the time, it's the player's fault that ffxi becomes a chore for them. When I came back to ffxi after quitting for 6 months I completely changed the way I looked at the game. MMO's are such that you make of the game what you choose to make of it. FFXI becomes a chore because the players -make- it a chore. WoW is a chore for many people in exactly the same way as FFXI is a chore. The one and only thing that I think SE has just completely dropped the ball on, and which player attitude has no control over, is deleveling. It's the most retarded thing I've ever seen in a game, and I cannot understand why they will not fix it. At the very least there should be a quest that will lock 75, so that it cannot be deleveled. I think fixing that one small, miniscule thing would bring people back to ffxi and keep them there. Endgame would be so much more tolerable if 75 could be locked. There's not much time to level, and yet you have to stay leveled for the ls, but ls events dont allow you to level, and the events themselves drain xp(btw, DRK spell, {Absorb EXP} anyone?) so much that endgame does become a chore. Nevertheless I think that the work involved is more than adequately rewarded by the fun times spent with friends, even if you think the gear isn't worth the time(which I do think it's worth it^^). That being said, I do understand why you're leaving Year, and bestofluck in WoW, if you run across a Rogue named Chionos...don't forget to /wave...and watch your pockets.
I'm not sure what it is about FFXI if it's the playerbase or the game design, but there is something that seems to cause players to make more work out of it than most people do out of WoW. I'm absolutely guilty of this. There an extra push for efficiency and stuff.
Anyway, I decided to take pics of one of my characters. Here is my Undead Shadow Priest just shy of dinging 25. Shortly before I took this picture I was attacked by a Druid while walking toward Stonetalon Peak to do some quest stuff. It was a cheap shot as I was at half health and fighting a mob. Luckily he was just chilling at the inn once I'd gotten up and made my way there. I sneaked around some of the Night Elf guards and owned him badly. Revenge is a great (and fun) thing.

Perhaps I'll update again later with pics of my Paladin or Druid.
Careful chionos. You may find yourself addicted once you play Rogue for a while and realize how badass it is.
EDIT: Little update on my Priest. I got some nice new pretties from some instances I ran recently.
Got none of the drops I wanted in Blackfathom Deeps, but did get an awesome quest reward.

After some bad luck runs in Shadowfang Keep I managed to get both of the following in a single run.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...lineMantle.jpg
Hopefully I'll be able to go back and get the belt as well and maybe Odo's Ley Staff unless I can get lucky and get Staff of the Friar or Rod of the Sleepwalker in BFD.

Chionos come to my server! And join my LS! Wow has that "you can dol 97% of everything soro and get uber gear" aspect to it OH and you get exp bonuses when you haven't logged in a while so you don;t have to waste much time leveling. Has alot of attractive aspects to it and it -is- super fun for like... 2 months. Most FFXI players that leave for Wow usually come back because the community aspect of the game is addictive. Plus COR gear is sexy on my character <3 I couldn't abandon Day looking all sultry and pouty with a gun <3 <3 <3 /innerlesbiangrin
My wife and I used to be very anti-WoW because we believed in the anti-WoW hype from a lot of people that tried it and came back. I think a lot of the "it's fun for 2 months then boring" aspect comes from FFXI style players trying to play it FFXI style. A well known endgame BLM on my server left to play WoW. He was gone for 3 months and when he came back he said WoW was awful. He got to 60 as a Mage and had full dungeon, tier and epic gears and quit in that time.Quote:
for like... 2 months.
At the time I thought, well there must just not be that much game play. Now I realize that if you have the 3-6+ hours a day to devote to a game (like he did to both games) and you play through WoW in an ultra goal oriented fashion, you will 'beat the game' quickly. That takes a lot of fun out of it though I would imagine.
WoW has a lot to do and there's a decent amount of grouping if you want there to be. I group about 50% of the time even when I'm not playing with my wife. If you wanted you could XP by doing nothing but instances in all reality. It would be very much like FFXI then.
FFXI: Valkurm->Qufim->Jungles
WoW: Ragefire Chasm -> Wailing Caverns -> Shadowfang Keep (Horde side)
So you could play it very much like FFXI, put up your flag and go run one of these instances while getting good XP, fat loot and fat money and then do the next one. WoW allows you this flexibility whereas FFXI really doesn't. It has a very rigid scheme developed by the players.
I'm gonna take it slow in WoW. I'm in no hurry to max out my toons and say "I WONZD!!!" Something going for me is the wife factor. I play my Druid exclusively with my wife. Unlike FFXI we get to interact much much more directly. Doing quests and instances together is fun. Try to slowly and strategically pull a 5 man instance with just the two of us is a fun and exciting challenge and we really connect a lot while playing.
Not really trying to turn people to WoW, but I do like to point out the inconsistencies I see from a strongly anti-WoW community (which I used to be part of) within FFXI.
As for updates. I got my Druid to 31. He's nearly 32. My Priest is 30 now. Was doing some quests with my wife on my Druid and got two incredible world drops (like drops that can drop from a large variety of mobs but with around a 0.01% drop-rate) that are both awesome for my Paladin. I'll update with pics later ^^
I'm not anti-wow ;/ I'm anti-people-that-preach-wow-is-better-then-ffxi =D /huggles and I like harrassing you ^_^ <3 <3
Attached picture: That Wyrm BCNM. Pwn'd it and got Wyrm Beard and Juggernaut!
The only area I would say WoW is straight up better than FFXI in is the fact that Blizzard seems to give a crap about their game and is directly in touch with the users and they fix problems quickly and keep the players informed. SE is lazy about how they run their game.
Pretty much everything else between the two games is a matter of taste whether it be the graphics, the story, the grouping or the pacing of the game. I have my opinions there, but it's the customer service and support that is something I doubt anyone can argue SE is superior about. I would've gotten less frustrated about the game (and indeed the game would've improved in certain areas more quickly) if the developers kept a lifeline between themselves and the players.
BTW grats. How much is Juggy selling for these days?
well we got about 300K a piece so 5 mil+ I think Anain sold it for. was a nice little pay out to see the Wyrm Beard go to a mnk in the LS drama free!
Meh, I stopped WoW after approx. 4 month. The last month of the second pre-paid I haven't been there. Was a fun game though. Never got over level 50 and never really used the bonuses from the BC, but it was fun. Let's see how long FFXI lasts.
I just got Dragoon to 30, which is nice because now I can use my subjob Thief's Sneak Attack.
Who's the biggest DD in the party? Me. :D lol
Thief on 14 now.*glee*
Well I got my Priest to 30 and my wife made me a new headpiece, though I'm gonna miss my goggles (I'll probably make a superior pair later when my Engineering gets higher).
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...nsoulCrown.jpg
I got my Paladin to 26 before taking a screenshot because my pants made me look like I wasn't wearing anything under my guild tabard. Now I have visble pants (I thought WoW would let me escape from the subligars of FFXI ^^).
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../Paladin26.jpg
I also got to put on two awesome new pieces of gear for my Paladin. They are extremely rare (Usually called a world drop. Most can drop from a great number of mobs [as many as all on a continent] but with only a 0.01% drop-rate.) My wife and I got 2 such pieces within about an hour.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...dofThorsen.jpg
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...erScimitar.jpg
Finally a picture of my Druid (who I consider my main). He'd recently hit 32. He also has his pet Mechanical Squirrel that my Priest made (from a world drop recipe that my wife was lucky enough to get so that now all o my toons have a pet squirrel ^^). Ignore the fact that I'm wearing a fishing rod... I'd just been fishing.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...le/Druid32.jpg
Started playing WoW. I've made 4 characters so far just to get a general feel of the game. So far, I can understand why some people would jump ship from ffxi to go to WoW. I was playing, gaining exp&money literally within seconds of logging in. Since starting I've been able to log on for 30min -1hr and actually feel like I've accomplished something, I just can't do that in FFXI. For people who don't have a lot of time to play WoW obviously > FFXI. But other than that, FFXI is still a far superior game. Even ignoring my longtime FF fanaticism, any hardcore gamer(ie the ones that have time to be hardcore) is going to prefer FF to WoW. However, that doesn't mean that WoW isn't incredible, because it is. There are quite a few things I've noticed that I wish FFXI would incorporate into their game, and though I loathe to say it, FFXI developers are either being lazy or very idiotically stubborn about keeping some things in FFXI the way they are when it seems the entire world knows there's a better way to do it.
It's been hard to accomplish anything in FFXI lately b/c of my school/work schedule but I got blm to 61(static pt as BLM RDM BRD COR WAR NIN...refresh please, avg 10mp/tick) and whm to 42 and can finally tele myself around. Dynamis continues to get more and more boring as cities are almost a joke now. I remember my first few times in dynamis-windurst(with a different ls) when we couldn't even make it past the "Death House" without wiping, but now we double clear windy and {Flee} around an empty Dynamis-Windurst. Once the challenge is gone, it's not as fun anymore. I'm kind of hoping they add Dynamis-ToAU zones, even though ToAU already has assault and Salvage 'n' what-not. Or if SE would add new loot to the existing zones that would spice things up a bit. I'm excited to see the Far East atm too, especially seeing the work the developers have been putting into the game lately(finally._.) They kind of proved it to me w/ the Pallas change. I was the final straw ^_^. Popped Pallas with a friend(who's not a good soloer) and a group of ppl killed the bat and waited for Pallas to charm me then beat the crap out of me, then tried to steal Pallas from my friend, who managed to kill it somehow. We called GM merely to ask if it was ok to kill people whom Pallas has charmed and -literally- 30 minutes later SE 'fixed' Pallas. I sympathize with the developers to a certain extent. Really it's not the developers' fault that the game degenerates, it's the players. The majority of gamers are selfish arrogant morons, and they spoil it for everyone else. WoW has those same fools, but fortunately it seems that the way WoW has set up the game, it's harder for those idiots to spoil the game for other people. I don't expect SE to change their game, and I wouldn't want them to. It's a shame, though, that their wonderful game is ruined by idiots.
Yeah, I really don't think they need to remake FFXI in WoW's image. They are different games for different types of gamers. What SE needs to do is listen and stop being lazy. Why did it take them 4 years to start doing something about RMT, fishbots, Ulli, windower, (you get the idea)?
I think they could've saved a large portion of their players if the players had any indication that they could have contact with SE. The devs in FFXI are on a pedestal far away and unreachable whereas the WoW devs talk to the players and fix things quickly. There is a connected feel and doesn't make you feel like you're taken for granted and ignored. The people who run WoW seem to actually play their game and understand the mechanics of it. This is not the case with FFXI. Remember the Sage Sundi interview a while back?
paraphrase:
Q: So how do you feel that new XP areas are overcrowded
A: They are?
Q: How do you feel that kings have ridiculous amounts of competition for claims?
A: They do?
Q: How do you feel about RMT owning Ulli in sky 24/7?
A: Wut?
SE finally seems to have stepped up. They are dealing with problems more in real time and are fixing the problems that have plagued the game for a long time. I think if they just took a more serious role in development and listening to their players (that play the game more than the devs and can come up with amazing suggestions for solutions) then all of the other problems would fix themselves.
I really can see both sides of the coin though. If you are hardcore and have 6-8 hours a day to play, WoW would probably bore you to tears within a few months and FFXI would make you feel more accomplishment. However, if you have less time or want to feel less of a slave to progress WoW will give you more for less.
Don't feel bad about starting several toons. I think I probably made about 10 characters (even got a few near 30) before my wife and I finally settled on a realm and stuck with our current characters. If you feel like rolling horde and want to come join us you would be welcomed. We can help you with bags and instances and other such things. We're on Darrowmere.
Now for progress ^^ Got my Druid to 34 and my Priest to 31. Managed to get a rare drop from a rare spawn in Razorfen Kraul that I'm pretty excited about. Also got two pretty awesome piece of gear for my Paladin out of a chest I opened on my Druid. Just need to level him up high enough to use them.
I'm hoping to be able to keep both FFXI and WoW. FFXI for when I know I have time to do something, or have plans, and WoW for in between classes or while I watch a movie or a game or something. WoW is great too because it's easier to just walk away, if someone calls or @ dinner or w/e. FFXI sucks you in. While you're playing, anything else happening is an intrusion. If I have to choose one in the end it will probably be FFXI, just b/c I've already put in so much work. I can't stand the thought of losing it all.
That's the killer about FFXI. It takes so much work to accomplish anything that it makes it almost impossible to walk away and abandon the immense amount of work you put into it. I also like the ability to walk away at a moment's notice. Even when running an instance if something comes up most players don't flip out when you say, "Hey I have to go." It's easy enough to replace someone or to 4 man the rest of the instance and instances don't take the immense amount of preparation that even a simple XP PT in FFXI takes.
My wife and I were discussing what affects the balance between the two games that allows so much more balance in WoW and not as much in FFXI. In WoW each job has multiple potential roles they can fill.
Druid can tank, DD, or main heal (really needs resto spec though)
Paladin can tank and main heal
Warrior can tank and DD
Shaman can tank, DD or main heal
Priest can DD or main heal
The list goes on. If you need a healer, half of the jobs in the game can do it (Priest, Druid, Shaman, Paladin). You need a tank, half the jobs in the game can do it (Druid, Paladin, Warrior and too a lesser degree Shaman and Hunter [with pet]). You need damage? Well pretty much everyone else can do damage and many of the already mentioned jobs can also fill that slot if not doing their other duties. Crowd control? Pretty much everyone has some form of it.
In FFXI. You want a tank... you have NIN or PLD. You want a healer... RDM, WHM, SMN maaaaybe BLM. You need crowd control... BRD, RDM, BLM. So now I've mentioned about 1/5th of the jobs. You want damage... everyone else as well as Ninja. You are a PLD and want to do two things? Too bad. You can tank. You can't effectively main heal or put out serious damage. This is the same case for most of the jobs. What you can do is ALL you can do and sadly for the vast majority of jobs that is do damage... there's only so much room for DDs in the world and when DDs are the majority you end up narrowing it down to which one is better (and there almost always a best). WAR, MNK, SAM depending on what you're doing.
The community grabs hold of these limitations and blackballs everyone who isn't the best of their category, which is sadly more than half of the jobs in the game to varying degrees.
So I have accomplishments. I blew up my video card. I dunno what happened but it made a loud pop and when I checked one of the capacitors blew off of the card. Dunno if it was overheating (not OC'd) or what. Gonna have to pick up a new vid card tomorrow.
I did manage to get my Druid to 36 and put on some pimp new gear (that I made nonetheless). Also did some battlegrounds and earned myself some boots. I never knew how fun PvP could be... crazy fun. I haven't been playing my alts too much. I've been really getting hardcore on the crafting with all of them and will likely start a new alt in the not-too-distant future to cover some other crafting needs of mine.
That reminds me
A capacitor on a friend of mines motherboard blew once, he just continued using it :p.
I tried several times but it's a no-go.
Well, I suppose not all capacitors are of equal importance.

\o.o/ Full drops ftw. 45 minute fight!
Long story short: this isn't our first kill of Hydra but last time we attempted it, it kept spamming Phys Shield at 1%... the three times we fought it the same night and ended up quitting. LOL just didn't want to die that day and now we went back for some RETRIBUTION!
NINJA EDIT: PLD/NIN for the mfw!
Ive been out of FF for about a month now and FINALLY tomarrow I will be able to get back into the game. So hopefully I can get GK2 and maybe the rest of the monk AF done within this week. Ill keep it updated.
During my absence of FF I have been playing WoW and IMO im not impressed. To me its not so fun running from quest to quest and on top of that I got suckered into joining a PvP server so at least 3-5 times a day I get killed by a ?? horde. The higher lvls have nothing better to do than pick on lower lvl people and make their day horrible.
I could rant and rave about wow vs ff all day but this is not the thread..... a thread just for wow vs ff should be made.......
In wow you can just whack around any pc you want?
I played several PvE servers before being talked into trying a PvP server and definitely prefer a PvP server. I don't really get ganked all that often, but there is a little extra thrill in being able to participate when it comes to that.
EDIT: A little clarity for those that don't play WoW... Only the opposing faction can attack you. It's not a free-for-all mess. However, groups of high level people will often attack small towns (of which there are quite a few in WoW). Keep in mind that the guards will come the defense of the towns so it's not like everyone in their teen level in Crossroads is getting raped by 70s. The 70s still have to deal with the numerous level 65 elite guards and other various town NPCs.
Also dying isn't the same as in FFXI. You do not lose XP and when killed by another PC you don't lose durability on your gear either. The only downside is having to walk back to your body from a nearby graveyard, which takes a hell of a lot less time than waiting for a raise in FFXI or trying to get back to where you were after HPing.
As far as PvPing people of your own faction, you can do that by challenging people to a duel which they can easily decline.
Speaking of PvP, I've been doing a lot of battlegrounds lately. Wickedly fun. I got enough marks and honor to buy myself some new boots from Arathi Basin (similar PvP to Dominance in Unreal Tournament). Also being doing Warsong Gulch (CTF) which has been grueling. Lot of really good alliance teams. Too bad most of the junk I want comes from Warsong.
Pvp sounds like it would be fun at first but get annoying later.
PvP seems to get less tedious as I level. There are more and more people I have the level advantage over so I don't get ganked as much. It is sometimes annoying to be on a quest and get ganked though. However, as long as they don't corpse camp me it's only small inconvenience.
WoW is a good game. I just can't bear it anymore. 4 month were more than enough, but again, I'm not the classy MMORPGer.
I'm not sure if I'll buy any addional licences after the demo month of FFXI either though. It sure is fun, but my heart lies in SinglePlayer.:)
I have recently become bored with this game. No, not in the Yearg sense, where I have pretty much done everything and there is nothing left. There is still a lot to do in the game but I just don't feel like doing it.
Recently a new person joined our Linkshell. She is on every day. In about two months she got two jobs up to level 55. I asked her how she did it and she says she gets home at 3:30 and starts lfg right away. She gets a party around 5 and levels until about 10. I thought, wow, you must really have a boring life outside this game to spend all your free time levelling up. Then I realized, I've done the same thing. Sure, maybe not in two months, but I have a job at 60+, and I've spent many other hours on other things.
I started thinking, what is the point of it all? In the end I'll quit and my character information will be wiped out forever. The only thing I'll be able to take away from it is the memory of the experience. Would it be cool if Tmoney is pimped out with all the best gear for his level? Sure. Is it worth 3+ hours to get some marginally better equipment? No.
The point of the game is to have fun. What's fun in this game? In my opinion it is the storylines (missions) and general exploarion of the world. To get the most out of that you need a high level character. Fighting stuff is fun, getting experience points is not fun. It's so hard to commit myself for 2-3 hours of my life at a time just to get one level, especially since that's all the free time I get on most evenings. Recently I've tried soloing (BLU 36) and it's been fun when it goes well but I've died a lot and it goes very slow. No more of that. If I can (or want to) only pt for an hour, then I only pt for an hour. I just can't understand how people with multiple 75 jobs are able to keep their sanity going through it all over and over and over...
Anyway, my point is that I'm going to stop doing the meaningless little things in this game. No more marginal NM camping, no more random little quests where the rewards suck and the stories aren't that interesting. These things are watering down the actual cool stuff about the game. A decent character can be made simply from getting all gear from the AH, and I have a very easy and effective way of making gil so that is not a problem. No more hoarding gil, I'm blowing the wad. I also think I shall take a brief break to focus on my actuary exam, since that is much more important and has tangible rewards. I'll sign on to check AH sales to make some gil, since playing the market is still fun and doesn't take too long.
I really like this game, but it can drain you if you don't watch out.
WHY AREN'T YOU LEVEL 75 YET? :3
Aside from the fact that I've seen it all, there were many goals I had left to accomplish, but I left for the same reasons your mentioning. Within reason you can take your casual approach, but with FFXI being such a hardcore game, the rest of the community will hardly welcome you with open arms for doing so.
In the end, you said it best that the game is supposed to be fun rather than a taxing thing. Asking why is a slippery area because all MMORPGs and for that matter all games are pointless in terms of "what's the point?," but the answer truly is fun. If you can have fun AND pimp yourself out then more power to you. However, for most, to do so (especially in a hardcore game like FFXI) you have to sacrifice a lot of other things in your life to meet all of those goals.
I'll be tempted to raid a lot when my toons are all higher in WoW, but I think I'm really gonna try to avoid getting into a situation where I find myself actually debating in my head, "Hmmm I could schedule it for X:XX, but I have Dynamis on Tues/Thurs at X:XX." Sure it's fun for me to get pimped, but there is a line that I think I'll never cross with an MMO again. When I get close to that line in WoW, I will move to the next game that suits my fancy.
On to accomplishments (the point of this quasi-derailed thread... which is probably mostly my doing... sorry). I started a Troll Rogue because a) I need a toon that does Alchemy/Herbalism, and b) it would be nice to open lockboxes that my wife and I find without having to pay/tip another Rogue to do it. I'm loving it (just like I love my other 3 toons). It's lots of fun and damage. It's like combining WAR and THF/NIN from FFXI and putting them on speed. I'm gonna quasi-twink my Rogue and have already gotten a solid start with my wife's Hunter helping me run some instances for really pimp gear.
After my video card exploded my ISP crapped out on me and I was without any reliable internet for about a week. I'll get back to my normal picture posting soon since I finally get my internet back.
P.S.
Let's try to keep this thread SFW plz :pQuote:

I'm fairly certain now that I'm not a MMO person. Sure it's fun at the start, but those games are a bit too tedious for my taste. I just want things to happen, rather than sit and wait for the next mob to respawn or do yet another "go-there, kill-X-of-that, come-back" quest in WoW. Sadly the MMOs don't really seem to workout well that way.
The one thing I do like about the MMOs is that you can actually socialise with people. But then again, I find it much more pleasing to bug people about RL issues here than discuss which sword is shaper in FFXI.
And then again, I like playing the shifty, sly Thief type of character which often isn't implemented very well. WoW's adoption is probably the best so far.
The only MMO which I did enjoy was actually a MUD. The reason why I left it is simple: Buy all the best items from the company, thus end up spending 4’000 USD on the game alone, or you won’t get a slimmest chance to win. Then there was this company’s marketing campaign that stated that they were free to play and ironically, it did seem so for about 9 month of gameplay. Then you actually noticed the whole idiocy of your own actions.
But anyway, me not being too fond of those games can’t be too bad.
Well, I need to save my mats to feed smithing and engineering, so I'd rather not be making keys anyway.
Got my Drachen Mail today:D Now to get the Drachen Armet to have the complete AF set:)
Does finally using the trial month count? I just reached level 6 today!
FFXI update: {Assassin's Armlets} get, finally. Not too useful yet, 0/2 on Megalobugard, and 0/1 on Obqan(sp?) but maybe tonight will be better.
WoW update: got pld to 18 and rogue to 12, don't get to play much, and when i do it's mostly just running around, but I love having it around to just jump on for a short time.
why is this turning into a WoW help thread? >_>
I got smn to 60! and beat Ultima to the ground, got Nashira hat and body <3 My LS loves me =D
sweetness eternalshiva, great job! =)
got Ass Bonnet and War Mask tonight, and finished getting pahluwan body yesterday
Productive few days: PLD to level 63, WAR to 33, and got a Jelly Ring!
After being a PLD tank for so long I really dislike WAR tank. =/
Also today I learned that to tank in Spanish is tankear.
Beast Gaiters!
Got my Drachen Armet. Now I have the complete DRG AF set:D
And my new title is "Paragon of Dragoon Excellence"
I got my last Promy completed!
I thought all hope was lost as all our HPs plummented to 0, then the WHM RR'd and cast Banish II and all of a sudden I was swept off to Lufase Meadows!
Also, with the access to new areas I solo'd my Ophiuchus Subligar which I can trade for this nifty piece of equipment...

The Refresh effect is activated when MP is lower than 50.
I don't get to play much because of work, but I reached level 10 and I am at Windurst Rank 2!
Good job! Some newbies don't bother to increase their rank and this reflects poorly in the eyes of more established gamers. Also most of the missions are fun so there is really no excuse for not doing them.
I pre-learnt, Light of Penance, Magic Fruit, Flying Hip Press, Death Scissors and Dimensional Death.
I got all 3 frigicite pieces ready to give to Maat for my 55 limit break.
I experienced my first {Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass} {English} {No thanks} (...bastards)
Almost completed Phomiuna Aqueducts... Again >:|
Got my BLU AF boots and legs. I hate the fact we have to practically buy them.
Probably some other stuff *vanishes*
Got Blue Mage to 40 so now I can do my own skillchains and get my AF weapon and all sorts of fun things!
Blu is so much fun. I was stunning Bomb Tosses left and right today. Links? No problem! Here's a sleep spell. Healer's low on MP? No problem! Here's a carrot. So useful.
I know how this feels. The HNMLS I used to be in did events pretty much every day, and between trying to do things with my friends, that, and school, it was pretty stressful. After a certain point it was even feeling like a job, and I didn't like feeling that way, so I dropped out of the shell. (Still got some things done, like Uglypie pendant, getting as far as I am in CoP, so I'm thankful to them for that.)
My HNMLS underwent some changes a while back. There's only one "mandatory" event now, which is on sundays. Every other day is voluntary. If you don't want to go to sky, don't go. If you don't want to kill jailors, don't. Just don't expect to get gear from sky if you don't attend, etc. I like it, there's no pressure to be on all the time, I can attend the events I actually enjoy and still be part of an hnmls.
65 Paladin. :)
10 levels to go!
I was in my first real party today. Before that I duo'ed with a friend then I was in a party once but it disbanned before we got to the camp. The party only lasted an hour since the leader mysteriously got d/c-ed then another member brb for a while, so the new leader decided to disban. It was fun, but hectic. I was trying to heal but the stupid targeting made it hard. I think I need to make better use of the macros and start using F1-F6 for targeting party members. x-x Luckily there was this other party beside us that for some reason was helping us out (by healing and such). In the hour that we actually EXPed, I manage to almost level up! Only like 200xp away from lvl 12!
Got Sorcerer's Coat from Dynamis-Beaucedine. =O
Got both RDM and SMN in the 70's now. So close to 75. =\
Finished CoP a while ago, and got my Tamas Ring. What a relief.
Definitely use the F keys to target party members. It will save your butt.
66 White Mage! 9 levels to go!
Del Murder and I went out and fought a BUNCH of goblins to get my White Mage Testimony tonight. Now I can fight Maat! Yay! :D
Going on a long hiatus so i can work on this game called Real Life more. The graphics are alot better too.
>_>
It's a real bitch making money though. :(
Yeah especially when you dont know where the AH is and what to farm...but i got my V6 mount to carry me when i need it. :) That quest wasnt too hard at least.
I don't have a mount so I have to use these wheeled airships to get around...
My current job seems to increase a few of my mental skills though. So far, I've gotten +2 persuasion, and +1 manipulation.
Eleni: 1
Maat: 0
67WHM. Got it on my first try. Limit level is now 75!
:D
also 67 whm, but going to try beating maat the non-whm way (go whmDD!) or at least I'll try 3 times or so... maybe 5; I'll need a lot of dd gear.
Congrats on G5 Miriel/Eleni!
73 smn >=] and capped out Barspells and Cure Casting time on merits for WHM and 1 away from capping out Shell 5. My tanks won't get pwn'd by magic attacks at HNM! mwahaha
Tmoney & Eleni: 2
Maat: 0
Finish time: 6 min, 33 sec. 67 Taru PLD.
Super easy. Didn't even use my elixirs or Invincible.
Ding! 68 WHM. :D
Also got Noble's Tunic.
Also also, fought Sabotender Enamorado and finished Sandy 6-1. :)
Also 68 but I didn't get anything cool. :( I guess PLD AF is so awesome there's not much room for improvement.
Oh well, Espadon +1 is cool enough for me.
Oh wait! I stole Eleni's Vermilion Cloak when she switched to Noble's. :p
Just completed Aht Urghan Mission 11 =)
I also got SAM to 32, so I don't have to level it again till my DRG reaches 65.
I don't have to level Warrior again until...never! Oh thank goodness! Ding 37 WAR
BLU 61! Broke level cap obviously, did Riverne Site #A01... Errr... Thats all I can think of.
Summoner 75 bishes! 4th 75 job I NEED A LIFE.
Hit BLU 53, trying to go for BLU 54 and my AF pants one of these days.
A few things: first, after a week of mining, and a couple of weeks of selling warp cudgels (until someone went and drained all the profit out of them) and getting / selling tele-vahzl scroll, I was finally able to afford(barely) a Noble's Tunic! only 900k! I can use it now too! It's the greatest thing since.... Cure V!
Also, Beat maat the Whm-survive way, that was too easy with an earth staff, a yagudo drink and a few hi-ethers (I used a fish mithkabob that a friend had left from her whm G5). Planing to challenge maat again when I actualy get the time to skill up and buy the solo gear, then I'll try to break some records.
Well, every job needs something expensive they need to buy. Teleport scrolls do not count because you can quest those and they can make you money anyway!
My recent accomplishments:
Got THF and NIN to 37, finished Promys, got two Promy area BLU spells (the only reason I did promys! Can't wait for Refueling.)
Got my Ying Yang Robe this weekend >=] Thank you my LS mates from EndlessAbyss!
Got Sorcerer's Coat, and Sorcerer's Belt recently.
My LS has been claiming a bunch of HNMs lately. Recently, we've killed Tiamat, Vrtra, Aspid, King Vinegarroon, King Behemoth, and a Fafnir that dropped a Ridill! :D
Me and my lil bro got the Crawler's Nest map:D
However, we need to find two more stone monuments to finish that quest
WAR is so boring. You engage and use WS and THAT'S IT. You can do your taxes while levelling WAR it takes that much attention to play. If you stop paying attention on PLD or WHM everyone is dead!
MNK is worse in this regard, though. I love BLU and THF because you are so busy.
Aquarius soloed at 64.
Francisca {Mine}
Level 70! Got to catch up Eleni though.
I did Tidal Wave in Besieged as a level 10 summoner for THREE POINTS OF DAMAGE.
Chuffed.
I came back and momentarily forgot how to disengage auto-target in battle.
Feels good, though.
XD lol we just beat dynamis windy with 17 people! 3 blms, 2 whms, 1 rdm, 2 tanks the rest DD. how uber!
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...s/windy172.png
Defeated Jailer of Love with my LS and I got a Novio Earring.
Did ZM4 and all the fights for ZM5. :)
Level 71! Leveled up via Besieged. :)
Only 4 more to 75. Yay!
Edit: Also, we did our first Assault today. It was fun! Except kinda nuts. Glad we did it with an experienced group of people or else I think we wouldn't have managed it so well.
Also also, did the ZM6 fight. It was easy. :D
Got 2 of the 3 Crests for the 60 cap quest. Just need the Yagudo crest:)
Ding, 73 PLD. :)
Also, we are going to do Dynamis for the first time today.
I bought a copy of the game. Oh yes. I did.
Congratulations!
Dynamis is interesting the first few times, but so boring all other times. D;
I AFK in dynamis for the most part, it lags so much on my laptop I can only hope to cast absorb-TP, run in, WS, and a mob will be dead before I can even do that most of the time.
Speaking of dynamis, I got my DRK AF2 last night. yay, can sell my tarasque mitts because im saving for cursed leggings.
Well turns out it didn't go down because all the zones were taken and we didn't have enough people anyway. Oh well, next time.
I'll never get to do it. :(
Why not?
Noobs! :D
Hexa Strike.
:D :D :D
Pwn'd Jormungand last night with my LS, 2 1/2 hour fight!
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...VISDAYJORM.png
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...s/JORM1PER.png
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...s/JORMDEAD.png
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3.../JORMDEAD2.png
I leveled thief to 16 last night. It sounds like a pretty pitiful feat, but it's seriously the hardest thing I've ever done in that game. >.> That job is BORING.
Treasure Hunter FTW.
